Chapter 52 Mummy
Chapter 52 Mummy
Laura's POV
A cloudless sky was at its bluest before me. It was perfect, beautiful and peaceful outside the castle's large window. I had no recollection of how I came to stand here, or what I had been doing before that— just that I remembered I was here. All I knew was that the world outside was near perfect, which was strange because it was never supposed to be like that. Even though I found comfort in looking at the sky, I couldn't ignore the feeling that something was wrong— "Hey!" I spun around and a small gasp escaped my lips. Blade stood before me with a warm smile on his face. Behind him, Julian was slowly approaching. My heart skipped a beat as I began to wonder what the both of them were doing here. And why were they smiling? In the last couple of days before my brain became this way, they seemed to not stand each other... My eyes returned to them. While Blade had his hand stretched towards me, Julian rested against the wall and smiled at me. His left hand was tucked into his pocket while he brushed his under-nose with his index finger. "Laura, I've been looking for you. Let's go," Blade said with his hands still waiting for me. For a second, memories flashed in my head of the time we had shared together. Blade was nice and I couldn't deny that somewhere in my heart, I had developed some feelings for him. I looked over Blade's broad shoulder, to Julian. He stood there silently, watching me. He never made any attempt to stop me... Almost like he knew for certain where my heart belonged. —He knew that I wanted him too. Maybe even more than Blade... My heart thumped as I studied his features. Julian's long lashes were in sync with the slowed blinking action he made. I loved Julian, my heart belonged to him but what about Blade? "What's wrong?" Blade suddenly asked. He looked worried that I wasn't paying attention to him. "Come on, let's go." Blade held out his hand again. Not wanting to hurt his feelings, I placed my hand in Blade's strong ones and he began to lead me away. A door opened ahead of him and he slowly moved inside. I took a step forward, pulled by Blade but my eyes remained on Julian. Somewhere within me, I wanted him to argue. I wanted him to pull me back, reprimand Blade; anything at all but keep me with him but he strangely remained as he was. He folded his hands and smiled at me, as silent as always. He wasn't stopping me, I was confused. I was going to Blade, to be with him but Julian was ignoring me. He claimed he loved me, but he didn't look like it. He should stop me! I took another step and then it hit me. I slowly looked at the wooden floors, then raised my head at Blade. He wasn't smiling again. "Laura, let's go?" He let out and this time, his voice wasn't the gentle one I had come to like. Something was wrong. My heart was wrong. I realised I was lying to myself. I wanted Julian to stop me, because my heart was still with him. Like someone that was under a spell, I pulled my hand out of Blade's hold and stared at it. It looked different, like it belonged in a different hold. I was only following Blade because I didn't want to hurt him. But what about me? Wasn't I only hurting myself? I had to go to who my heart wanted. And that was Julian. I took a deep breath and resumed walking. I took another step, but in Julian's direction. And ever so slowly, time stopped and my walk turned into a run. Julian opened his hands to me for a hug and I ran faster, my heart drumming with a magical rhythm that pushed me forward. Along the way, my eyes watered. I couldn't bring myself to look at Blade behind me, but I couldn't deny my heart either. As much as it hurts to know I was going to be breaking Blade's heart after everything he did for me. I couldn't deny that I loved Julian more than anything, I couldn't imagine living without him. Finally, the distance between us closed and I jumped as I crashed into Julian. My body made contact with him and it felt like all the hormones in my body broke free. My emotions overwhelmed me and I hugged him tightly, closing my eyes as tears filled my face. "Julian!" I cried. Julian patted my head and slowly brushed my hair. "Shush, it's okay. I also love you a lot. I don't think I can live without you," he whispered as if he had heard all my inner thoughts. Usually, this would have bothered me but I couldn't care less at that moment. I was just grateful that I could finally hold him. "No one can come between us again, Laura... I love you so much," he whispered. His voice was strong yet gentle as I laid my head on his chest. Julian held my face up and I stared into his eyes. It was bright, with emotions that I had never seen before. I could feel his heart as it beat against mine. A sweet shiver ran down my spine and I held his gaze, anticipating his next move. Julian pulled me in for a kiss and I closed my eyes as we made contact. My heart beat very fast, my chest warmer than ever. It was perfect. His lips were gentle on mine, as if it was his first time kissing him. He kissed me delicately, refusing to break me with his strength. I wanted more of him, I grabbed his shoulder and tiptoed to get more. In that moment, all I could think of was that I was happy that I had chosen him. My heart could have never made the right choice. "I'm so sorry Laura, I should have listened to you," Julian said as he held my face. I could see the tears he was holding back and somehow, it made the moment even more beautiful. Tears filled my own eyes and I held him tighter for support. "All those times, when you were pregnant. I should have cared about you. I promise to be a better person now Laura, I promise—" Stopping his words, I laid a finger on his lips and smiled through my tears. "It's okay. I've long forgiven you. I just want to be with you for the rest of my life." Julian wiped the tears off my face with his palms and smiled too. "Look at you, all red from crying. I have a surprise for you, it's something you will like..." A confused frown covered my eyes as I watched him step away from me and before I could say anything more, the scenery warped and changed into something else. Surely, this didn't feel real, I thought my frown deepened. I heard beeping and clicking sounds, like I was in a hospital and Julian was drawing away from me. I panicked and took a step towards him. "Julian? What's going on? Julian! Julian—wait!" I started after him but he kept on going far away, into a mist that had appeared. I ran towards it and I lost track of him. I was somewhere else, a place I couldn't recognize. "Laura!" A voice called me. I turned in that direction and cocked my head. "Julian, is that you?" I moved forward until I came to an opened door. I stepped inside and I found myself in a long corridor. An exit stood at the far end and I walked towards it. There was bright light coming from it, but I wasn't fazed by it at all. As I kept on coming closer and closer to the light, I couldn't ignore the nervous sensation that developed in my stomach as I thought of what could be waiting for me at the end, but I pushed on. As I stepped into the light, it took some seconds before my eyes adjusted and my eyes fell on who stood before me. Sarah's child stared at me, I recognized him instantly even if he was slightly older. He looked up at me, with his eyes as gray as my father's eyes and held out his hands. "Mummy," he muttered and my eyes widened. Like a soul forcefully pulled out of a body, my body jerked from the shock and everything moved so fast before me. I gasped for air, but I was too overwhelmed by it when my eyes opened. I sat up and realised my movements were compromised by the lines attached to me. I was in the hospital, what was I doing in the hospital? What put me in the hospital? I found it hard to focus and I felt terrible. There was noise outside the room, people arguing. I turned my head slowly to the door and Mackenzie stepped into the room.
