Chapter 49 Drain My Blood

Chapter 49 Drain My Blood
Julian
The atmosphere became very tense and my eyes turned into tiny beads as my anger grew with momentum. "What did you just call me?" Blade's shoulders also tensed up. "You heard me right. You are a killer, you aren't her true mate. That's why we can't continue this procedure, it's already risky. I would hate it if you killed her with your hands, like you did when you massacred the whole pack." I angled my head downward. "You can call me a killer, I wouldn't mind one bit. But let's not forget that someone's life is at stake here. If we sit back and do nothing like you propose, she will die!" I turned to everyone. "She will fucking die and we would be regretting why we didn't fucking do anything!" Blade kicked a chair and all attention returned to him. "That's the fucking problem, that's the reason why I refuse to let her go. She hates you Julian, it isn't going to work. She cried day and night because of what you did to her—" he started to yell and I couldn't listen anymore. "You pest!" I growled, jumping at him. "It's the damn truth!" Blade roared. The window panes shook at the intensity of his voice. "She hates you Julian!" "No, she doesn't, I know that because she is my mate. You don't have the bond that we have! You don't share it!" I threw a punch at him and broke his bottom lip. "You should watch your damned mouth, Brain! Watch it!" Blade moved his fingers to his lips and watched the blood that covered them. When his eyes met mine, I knew he was ready to meet his father. His canines bared and he came at me, ready to finish it as a male but before he could graze my skin with his pathetic blows, Mack jumped between us. "Stop please! Guys stop! We won't solve this by screaming at ourselves." I glared at Blade. "I'm trying to save a life, he's trying to stop me from doing that." "I know, I know you all have your reasons. But it's Laura's life we are talking about!" She moved to Blade and touched his chest gently. "I hate to say this, but Julian is right. Laura still loves him," she admitted. Blade's face lit up to protest. "No! You can't be serious! She can't love him!" Mack sighed and touched her heart. "I know because I can confirm it. Laura always found it hard to avoid him. She found it hard to hate him even after what he did to our pack—" "But what about the rejection ceremony she agreed to do?" Blade yelled. "If she loved him, why would she agree to it?" "The only reason why Laura agreed to it was because she couldn't bear the pain of sharing him with Sarah, not because she hated him..." Blade staggered backwards. He looked at me in disbelief. I was tempted to say the term "loser" to him, but I ignored. Mack's revelation was also painful to me because she just pointed out how cruel I was to try and bring Sarah between us. "The truth is that, her wolf still loves Julian. That's proof enough that we can take the risks," she said. She sank in one of the chairs and covered her face. "We have to do something. We can't lose Laura. She can't die when there's a way." She sobbed. Felicity supported her. "I agree with that. Let's take our chances now before it's too late." Twain sighed. "Alright. I will call a doctor to assist me. Your Grace you will have to stay with her until she wakes up because aside from the blood, your presence as her mate would give her the strength she needs." He packed up his things and turned to the rest. "We need to pray for the goddess to show us her kindness. The Luna would be needing it." Blade remained silent in a corner. He looked disconnected with the group. "Alright, let's start it!" I said and the doctor nodded. Together, he and I walked out of his office to where Laura was kept. He gave instructions to the nurses and soon Laura was moved to another private room that was spacious. I was also prepped, scanned and washed before I went in to meet her. The room was white washed, with state of the art intensive unit care system installed. Laura was placed in the center of it, with an oxygen mask on her face. A large bandage draped her forehead and she looked pale and thinner than ever. I held my breath and slowly approached Twain, fighting the urge to cry into her ears to wake up. Twain set up the transfusion unit with the nurses and he ushered me to come over quickly. "Have you been scanned?" He asked. "Yes, I've also been washed and prepped. Do we need anything else before we start?" "No, did you eat before coming here? I will hate for food to be in your blood. It could clog her delicate veins," Twain worried. "No, I haven't eaten since all this started." I held out my arms. "Do it." "That's good. Here, sit down here and hold out your hand." I did as he said and he stabbed a needle connected with a tube into my forearm. I hissed at the sharp cold pain and watched as my blood rose in the tube into a machine. My eyes followed the movement of the blood to the end. There was another tube at the other side of the machine, and it fed the treated blood into Laura's arm. She also had a needle attached to her arm like me. "There, hold steady. If you feel dizzy, it's very normal. But if you need to stop immediately, please tell me," Twain informed me. He worked on the machine and adjusted its numerical values. Yes, I felt dizzy, because I was having blood flowing out of my body, but I wasn't going to stop. "Don't worry, you can drain all the blood in my body if you have to." I focused on Laura. She had to be fine. Twain didn't look too convinced by my words but he let me do as I please. He continued adjusting the machines, checking the ventilating unit, the heart rate and even her body. "We are quite lucky. She is stable for now, but not for long." He worked up a sweat at the back of his neck. I kept my eyes peeled on Laura. She never even flinched once since we started. I couldn't help but wonder what was happening inside her. Could she hear us? Could she feel the needles and the blood flowing through her veins? I watched her for so long that my vision got blurry as I ha refused to blink, fearing that if I did that, something might happen to her. Something suddenly dropped to the floor and we all turned to see that it was just one of the plastic covers for needles. One of the nurses must have forgotten it. My eyes returned to Laura but I instantly noticed a change. Something was different. It was subtle at first, but I couldn't ignore it when it became too clear. Laura's hands were trembling. I stood up as it escalated, it was clear she was having seizures. "Doctor! What's going on? She is having seizures! Stop!" I warned him. "Take this out of me now!" I threatened as I tried to pull the tube out of my hand. "Stop! Don't do anything!" Twain held a finger up. —He was very calm despite my panic. He checked all the values and kept on nodding. "That's perfectly normal, but her body will adjust to it in no time—" he faced me. "That's if you are her mate." The machines beeped furiously, but none of the medical values dropped. Twain was true to his words, she was still hanging there. I swallowed. "I am." Twain resumed working on the machines. "She dies if you aren't her mate. And then I will lose my license as a doctor... So please, if you are not, then become her mate again." I didn't know if he was being sarcastic, but I ignored the last comment. Laura continued shaking and then she suddenly calmed down. All the values that had spiked on the machine returned to its base value. I held Laura's hands tightly and rubbed them. "Stay with us please, stay with us," I begged. She seemed normal. But her breathing was considerably slower than before. Twain noticed this and examined her body. He flashed a light in her eyes, listened to her breathing and clenched his jaws. "What is it?" I demanded. Twain removed his stethoscope. "She is in a coma now." He paused and glanced at me. "It all depends on Laura now. Her body is doing the work, it's just accepting it that remains." "Can't we speed up the process?" Twain almost scoffed. "At this point. It's not even medicine again. It's between her and the Goddess. All we can do is pray and wait.”
