Part 58
/Abel POV/
"I love you."
Those words kept taunting me, echoing in my ears as I tried to
close my eyes. My body kept begging me to go outside, across the hall and find her. My omega. Things weren't supposed to derail so easily. It was not the shock of her words that made me too stunned to react but the situation we were in.
Avon. My pack member found out about my relationship with Emma and hadn't been the best at coping with the news. If not for Emma intervening, I shuddered at the mere thought of it. The last thing I wanted was to fuel the fire by accepting her confession and echoing the feeling back. At the moment I had no idea where I stood with Avon. He could very well go and snitch on me to my parents.
The last thing I wanted was for Allie to get involved in this fiasco.
He hurt Emma and everything in me was screaming to put his face through the wall.
At the back of his mind, I was aware that this would backfire on us someday, the cat and mouse game, all the hiding. It was too good to be true. I was not expecting it to happen so soon and out of nowhere.
My face twisted as I recalled the rage clouding his features, able to grasp the intensity and the urge he might have had to break my face. I felt the same. I could see the envy on his face, the jealousy, the frustration all at once.
With a sigh, I turned on my side again, finding the empty side of the bed. Her scent was tickling my nose, body stilling as I stared at the side of the unoccupied space. This used to be her side, the one she insisted on sleeping. I let out a long breath.
I sat up, tired eyes blinking into the pitch darkness of the room. My body sagged against the pillow as I looked around for a while. As I closed my eyes for a second, I had a flash of her face, that crushed look she stared at me with before storming out of my house.
I couldn't seem to think straight these days. Running my hand through my hair, I stood up. Blame my lack of sleep, but I had the sudden urge to walk across the hallway. Find her and talk it out.
With that determination in my mind, I stumbled on the door, slippers kicked as I fumbled for the knob. My feet halted in the living room as I found Edward sleeping, his body awkwardly fitting in the small tiny couch, almost curled on himself. What was he doing here?
I stared at the clock on the wall. It’s thirty minutes to midnight. He did not even join us for dinner. Not that I was able to keep anything down and barely checked my phone as to where he was.
At my sharp exhale I saw Edward twitch, stirring and I hesitated, waiting for him to say something. Anything.
When nothing happened for a long minute, I stepped outside, closing the door behind me. The light of the hall was blinding, making me squint as I looked at the elevator.
The night air hit his skin, almost scalding as I wrapped my arms around myself. I let out a hiss, raising my hand on the door to knock and then hesitating. Is it the right time to talk? What if she’s sleeping? I shook my head.
It’s better to clear the misunderstanding now that everyone is asleep than trying to find her in school.
Allie was the one to open the door, her face tight as she stared at me and stepped out. She crossed her arms together, a brow raised.
“What are you doing here Abel?”
I sheepishly licked my lips, “I am sorry I didn’t mean to wake you up but…”
“I was awake.” She interrupted with a roll of her eyes and leaned against the wall, eyes raking over my pyjamas. “What is it?”
“Umm…I was hoping to speak with Emma. Can you please wake her up?”
“She’s not here.”
My breath fell short as those words sunk in, eyes widening as I looked at the closed door behind her. Allie seemed resigned, lines marring her face and lips pinched together. Why was she so calm about it?
“What do you mean she’s not home? It’s almost midnight.”
“I am aware,” Allie responded in a hostile manner.
“Where is she?”
“Why do you care?”
The anger in her tone didn’t surprise me at all. I hung my head, taking a long breath. “Oh. She told you.”
“Yes. She did. I can’t believe you, Abel. I should punch you.”
“I deserve it.”
“Yeah, you do!”
“Please…just I need to talk with her and this will be sorted…”
“Well…it’s too late for that. She’s not here.”
“Where is she?”
“At Avon’s. She said she’ll stay the night.”
It was like something speared right through, sharp and painful as those words washed over. I sucked a sharp breath, a light throbbing starting in my temple. My heart was beating right out of his chest, the pain not subsiding no matter how hard I tried to taper my breathing.
Why would she get to him? After all that happened. He was the last person she should be talking to. Avon hurts her and also has feelings for her. Well, so do you. A voice inside sharply reminded. Guess we are the same.
“Oh”
“Yeah…” Allie awkwardly shifted on her feet, not meeting my eyes. “I…I could give her a call?”
“No. That’s okay. There is no need.”

Days blended into weeks and still, there was no call from Emma. I did not try to contact her either. Why did she not call? The question kept haunting me, thinking of all the worst reasons as I remembered her spending a night at Avon's place. What does that mean? Did she move on from our relationship?
Edward was still crashing in my apartment but we rarely had the chance to sit and catch up. He was always busy travelling and then coming back at ungodly hours. The only thing that assured me he was still in my apartment were his dishes in the sink. I was always locked in my office, rarely going to my room in fear of finding something that belonged to her.
My wolf was getting weaker as if it was physically and mentally drained thinking about the loss of her scent and touch.
Shaking my head, I stepped into my room, eyes immediately falling to the gaming chair in the corner.
“Hello, Alpha.” Emma hummed, as she plopped on my lap, smacking a kiss to my lips before she snuggled right into my lap. The omega smelled good, her hair still slightly wet, citrusy scent wafting through the air. I paused my gameplay briefly to settle a hand at the small of her back to coax her forward, further onto my lap and she all but happily did. It didn't take much longer before I could feel her pepper kisses along the nape of my neck, her tongue peeking out to taste my skin.
I shivered. It's getting increasingly more and more difficult to focus on the game with a needy omega in my lap, mouthing hungrily at my neck, tongue and teeth against the sensitive skin. I was playing a game to relax after a long day of classes, though admittedly some games would get me even more worked up – like the current one I was playing.
“Baby…stop that,” I warned her.
She hummed in response and instead started nibbling at the skin, tongue pressing against that one sensitive spot that made my breath hitch. Her sharp canines scraped against it and my grip on the keyboard faltered.
“E-Emma.” I exhaled.
“Yeah, sir?” She teasingly asked, words vibrating against my skin. I couldn’t hear the words she said, thanks to my headphones, but I could make out the shape of her words against my throat. I swallowed thickly.
One of her hands reached to slide beneath the hem of my white shirt.
As I did nothing to stop her, she slid her cold fingers up the ridges of my abdomen, fingers kneading at the plush muscle of my chest, letting out an appreciative hum. She made a soft noise, ducking to bite sharply, forcing a hiss of pained pleasure to escape my lips
“What the hell?” I exclaimed, hitting the escape button on my keyboard to glance down at the clear imprint of teeth marks on my bicep. Emma licked her lips, tilting her head down to lick over the bite, peering up at me with rounded eyes, half hidden by the fabric of her shirt.
“Menace,” I grumbled.
“Just wanted to see if I could take a bite…” She innocently blinked.
At the sharp knock on his door, Abel snapped out of it turning around to find Edward. He had a frown marring his face, hands curled into fists by his side.
“We need to talk.”
