26; Losing the Throne or not

Oliver’s POV

“Is it true you are yet to find a Luna?” a council member spoke as Peter had told them about me not having a strong woman by my side.

“Yes, it is only a matter of time before I find her” I explained hoping they would at least not take into bearing what Peter wanted them to do to me—he wanted my position taken from me and given to the ‘rightful person’ he had claimed no doubt referring to himself.

“You are not sure, we don’t need someone like that having a day or ruling the pack. It isn’t proper or safe for anyone. The pack safety is important” he smirked

Looking at me. He wanted to win a battle when a fight hadn't even started.

The council members nodded their heads in agreement “Peter has a point, we can’t have you filling the people without a Luna by your side” the same counsel member spoke up.

“It isn’t my fault my—“I stopped myself before I could slip out. I have a human for a mate—this was going to turn into a case I wasn’t prepared for if I had gone on with my statement.

“Just pray to the moon goddess to grant you a mate on time, we are going to give you three months to get it all together and find a Luna” he announced.

“Don’t you think that is too much?” Peter asked. I wished I could strangle him to death maybe he would lose that smug look he had on his face.

“Make it a year” I offered. But I knew I was in no position to. They were to make the command I was to follow—that is how it had always been in the last decades. They were above all supernaturals, not an exception no matter how strong any of them were.

“That is our final verdict. Take it or lose your throne” he said

Lucas was watching me, waiting for me to make the wrong move so he could take my seat away from me but I was in no way going to let that happen—it would be a shame to my ancestors.

“I will make it work” I always do.

I had requested Eric to find the most suitable werewolf with Luna’s most important trait. Strong worthiness.

He only suggested a girl—she being the only one of the lost which made her the most suitable candidate.

I had agreed to it without looking at the pictures or looking for a thing about her. I was going to rely on the information Eric has fed me and trust my wolf instinct.

That was the inciting event that led to me announcing my engagement to the whole world which felt like a bad idea since my phone won’t stop vibrating with notifications.

The internet had been buzzing with my so-called engagement. Different news stations called me for an interview. They were indeed marveled that a lady was able to tame the most successful alpha bachelor in New York.

I could remember when I had announced it—the look on Freya’s face would forever be embodied in my mind. It kept playing like a broken record—over and over again.

The door to my office opens and hits the wall with a loud thump.

An angry-looking Ethan stood before me “What is going on in that empty head of yours?” he questions angrily, the vein on his forehead popping out.

He had been like a puppy the last time I had seen him, following that Celine girl up and down. I had been surmised he had even thought as much of bringing her to an event like that.

“Don’t come asking me questions you already know the answers to” I said dismissively, my eyes on the paper I pretended I was assessing.

“What about Freya?” The worry he felt towards her showed through his voice.

“And what about her?” I looked up from the paper, glancing at him briefly before looking back at the blank paper.

“You must know the pain she going through because of the mate bond and all”

“She will be fine, it is just a matter of a week,” I said nonchalantly but I knew that wasn’t the case. I knew it would be long before she got over this.

“What is going on in that head of yours? All of a sudden you come up with a fiancé and claim her to be your mate, when we all know she isn't. Your real mate is waiting for you to accept her.”

“That is in her, not me! I had never given her any false hope in there being we. So she should lose that dream of hers, it is never going to happen” I was destroying what was brought together by fate—that was if I did believe in any of that sappy shit. I was going to make my faith. What I did believe in.

She was destined for me but I was going to change that. There was no way I was going to hand my birthright to someone else just because I have a weak human mate.

She was a mistake and I wasn’t going to let that affect me.

“She is just a human, not a pandemic. You need to start treating her as one” he raised his voice slightly.

“I don’t see a difference between the two, they both are going to get me infected with something” I shook my head “Get back to work, this isn’t a place for this.”

“You really need to let go of that thought else you are going to lose a great person”

“Out Ethan, out” The door closed behind him, his words leaving behind an effect on me. I needed to get my mind off things.

I called Eric but got no response, which to me was unusual—he always answers me so fast I would think he always stood by my office waiting for me to call him.

But where was he?
