Chapter 27 Luna By Everyone
The scent of roses filled the room as the woman walked slowly and confidently towards the bed where Skylar was lying. Her black hair shone as the sunlight streamed through the large curtains, her short bangs framing her forehead. She hadn’t tied her hair back, letting it fall straight to her waist; her lips were a fresh red, like roses in full bloom.
“Skylar Avery Miles,” she said Skylar’s name without hesitation, standing before the bed in a cream-colored knee-length dress that highlighted the silhouette of her long legs. Skylar swallowed hard as she searched for clues about who this woman before her was.
“You’re lying on the Alpha bed as if you’re already familiar with this room, aren’t you?”
The woman looked at everything in a way that intimidated them, making Skylar hesitate to look at her face and hope her dark eyes wouldn’t fix on Skylar.
“Skylar.” Skylar was startled when her name was called in a colder tone. “Can’t you speak, or do you just not like talking to other women when you’re in that place?” She was referring to Liam’s bed—the highest throne a woman could occupy, and everyone—even Skylar knew it shouldn’t be her.
“Sorry. I just don’t know who you are, so I don’t know what to talk to you about.”
The woman smiled; her red lips looked sweet, but don’t mistake that for her eyes, which still felt piercing even though she looked friendly now. She approached Skylar, her smile never fading.
“I’m Selena Dokker. I’m the daughter of the beta—Albert Dokker; I’ve just returned from London to finish my education and came back due to an official call from this kingdom.” Skylar’s lack of reaction seemed to be a new source of frustration for Selena, so she felt the need to explain further. “I thought the wedding preparations that had been made were a welcome for my arrival, but who knew the big surprise would be when I walked into my soon-to-be husband’s room?”
Skylar froze, her gaze momentarily blank as if she didn’t know how to react. That made Selena finally smile—satisfied to see that reaction. She added with the same intimidating smile.
“Yes, Skylar, I am Alpha Liam’s bride-to-be. And the bed you’re sleeping in—that’s the bed I’m supposed to be in.”
Skylar’s eyes trembled for a moment; she swallowed hard before the reality hit her subconscious that she was now in a new kind of danger—the danger of occupying something she had never been meant to touch from the very beginning.
Once the news of Luna’s arrival had spread throughout Estines, everyone was filled with excitement—except Liam. Since everyone had been urging him to go meet Selena Dokker and welcome her, he’d been looking for something else to do instead.
Liam went into his room to escape the commotion in the council room—and in his own head. But his eyes didn’t find Skylar anywhere; instead, he found Selena standing next to a large vase on the long table—replacing the old flowers with fresh roses.
Selena’s cold expression softened, her smile blooming even more beautifully as she spread her arms—welcoming Liam into a tight embrace.
“Oh, Liam, I’ve missed you so, so much,” she said, breathing in Liam’s pheromones from his neck, which calmed her yet left her craving more. She looked at Liam like a puppy hoping for a stroke. “Where have you been? Why didn’t you greet me when I arrived earlier?”
Liam didn’t respond and turned toward the bed; seeing Skylar wasn’t where she’d been made him pull Selena’s hands away from his neck.
“Where’s Skylar?” Liam asked, his voice calm, though everyone knew Liam wasn’t that patient.
Selena pouted in a confused gesture. “You mean the stranger who was lying on the bed earlier?”
“Where is she now?”
“Well, I told her to leave.”
“Why?” Liam’s voice rose, a sign of disapproval.
Selena remained calm, even too casual as she replied. “Because she doesn’t belong here and she’s an omega. Liam, why are you keeping a filthy dog locked in your room?”
“She’s not a filthy dog! Don’t speak insolently or act insolently in my palace!”
Selena glared briefly, but she wasn’t surprised. She’d already heard the rumors spreading quietly throughout the palace that Skylar Avery Miles wasn’t just an ordinary woman who’d come as a home secretary, and with the extensive search Liam had been conducting for her lately, Selena could draw a clear conclusion.
She followed Liam as he stormed out of the room; as if agreeing to play along with his game. She didn’t stop Liam or get angry, but Selena couldn’t deny that she was deeply disturbed every time her eyes fell on Skylar—who was about to pass through the main entrance of the Alpha Palace with her limp body.
“Skylar, who gave you permission to leave this place?”
“Alpha, I…” Skylar seemed at a loss for words when she saw Selena, five steps behind Liam.
“Are you going to leave me AGAIN—and break the contract we have?”
Selena laughed from behind. “Does the contract you gave her include sleeping in your bed?” she asked boldly, standing face-to-face with Liam’s 6’6” frame.
“What did you say?” Liam asked, furious that his words were being challenged.
But Selena wasn’t afraid at all, as if there were another law standing above hers other than that of her leader. And if there was, then it was herself.
“I’m just wondering; what exactly is in your work contract that you keep her in your room, launch a massive search to bring her back to you, and even get angry when she leaves your side even though she was supposed to do that.”
“Selena Dokker, you don’t defy my words! Who do you think you are?”
The commotion caused several servants to stop and look, and even some council members who were in the Alpha’s palace took notice—including Benetta, who paused just to observe her top candidate for Luna.
“Look how bold she is….”
“I can’t defy your words, Alpha, but what if you were the one to defy them? Weren’t you the one who announced to everyone that Skylar Avery Miles is a traitor who violated her contract with the Kingdom of Estines?” Liam fell silent, causing Selena to smile boldly and say, “Take this woman to prison and lock her up until the time is right for her to be tried!”
