Chapter 251 - His change

Anastasia

“There must be a strong reason behind their breakup if he changed so drastically after it,” I mumbled.

“Strong or not, Nikolai loves to hold grudges,” Leon replied, gazing at his reflection in the coffee cup. “He’s usually a nice person on the surface. That’s why he holds grudges like no other if he gets hurt. That must be why he changed afterward.”

“But, he seems to be returning to his old cheerful self lately,” Julie comments drawing our attention. She came to stand next to me. “The old rebellious young master who never bows before anyone or anything, always holding his ground strongly.”

“That’s true,” Sebastian replied, looking in my direction. “He has changed a lot over the past months. He’s not the boring Nikolai he was before. I wonder what the cause of it is?”

“I wonder as well.”

All of a sudden, Leon, Julie, and Sebastian locked their eyes with mine at the same time.

“Huh? What? Why are you all looking at me?”

“Nothing,” Leon looked away.

“Let’s eat breakfast. I’m hungry.” Sebastian said, taking a bite food of his food.

“I have to clean up the kitchen. I’m leaving,” Julie said, walking away from there in a hurry.

What the hell is going on here? Why are they avoiding my question?

In a few minutes, Nina came downstairs carrying the tray of food in hand. She looked a bit disappointed and angry at the same time.

She saw me and then placed down the tray with a thud sound on the table.

Sebastian glanced at the food and asked, “Didn’t you go to feed him? Didn’t he eat or what?”

“Can’t you tell by seeing?” she yelled. “He said he’s not hungry at the moment and refused to see me. I don’t understand why he’s being so indifferent towards me.”

“You must be quite stupid not to be able to understand why,” Leon replied, sipping on his coffee.

“Huh? What do you mean by that, Leon?” she snapped fisting on the table.

“You abandoned him already. Why do you think he’s obliged to accept you in his life again?” Leon retorted with a serious expression. “Do you think he’s a toy or what? You can play with him when you want and then throw him away when you don’t want to, anymore. Does the world revolve around your wishes?”

She was swayed by his words for a second.

“You….you…why are you talking like that towards me? Making fun of my situation or something?” she scoffed.

“I’m not having fun seeing you making him suffer while you are enjoying out of it,” he retorted. “Deep inside you realize this yourself don’t you? That what you are doing is useless and futile? That doing it won’t result in anything good that you are imagining it to be?”

Nina opened her mouth to say something but refrained herself from doing that.

She looked away fisting her hands. “We won’t know until we try. I’m going to try a bit longer to see what the result turns out to be like.”

“How much more do you want to hurt him? Or are you going to keep trying till he breaks apart completely?”

Leon’s rage was completely appearing on the surface now. His anger was seeping through his skin.

“I never intend to–“

“I think you should leave it at that,” Sebastian interrupted. “You too Leon. It’s their personal matter. Let her do whatever she wants to. Nikolai is not a kid as well. If he thinks it’s getting out of hand he’ll take action against it.”

“You are telling me to keep quiet?” Leon asked.

“Isn’t that the best solution here? To just observe and watch instead of doing anything?”

Leon clicked his tongue and got up from his seat.

“I feel sick in your company. I’m done eating! Excuse me!” he stated, glancing at Nina for a second before walking upstairs.

He seems quite angry. Just what she has done to make him react so much?

“You and him, all of you just can’t stand me!” Nina complained, with an angry expression. “What have I done to receive this treatment from all of you?”

Sebastian stood up as well. “You should ask this yourself,” he replied. “What you’ve done wrong, what is making everyone turn their backs on you and making them angry? Think about this carefully then you can find an answer to everything. Instead of just going around asking others what’s your fault. That’s the best answer, I think.”

He also walked away without speaking anything else further.

Nina held onto a chair next to her tightly, while pondering over something in her head.

She seems to be struggling as well. I wish I could do something to help her out.

While she was away, I went to bring breakfast for Nikolai. I guess he’s not going to work today. Or else he could eat there.

I knocked on his door with the tray in hand.

“It’s me, Anastasia. I brought food.”

He opened the door the very minute.

“You didn’t have to come up to my room to feed me,” he asserted. “Could’ve sent a maid instead.”

“I had to make sure your guest wasn’t following around before I could bring the food. I don’t think anybody else would take the risk just to feed you,” I joked. “Now, take the plate and eat. I’m leaving.”

He paused for a second before looking at me.

“Are you busy perhaps? Can you come inside for a minute?”

“Me? Uh…sure.”

I knew he would say that. It was written all over his face.

Why’s he so easy to read?

I went inside and closed the door behind me.

I placed the tray on the side of the bed and stood in front of him as he took a seat down on the bed.

“So…..why did you tell me to come inside? Do you perhaps want to discuss something?”

He nodded. “I know that you aren’t involved in any of this. But, maybe you can give me an insight on this. I’m a bit puzzled myself.”

“I’ll be glad to help you out,” I replied. “You can say anything you want to.”

“Sit down first, then we can talk.”

I sat next to him on the bed.

“It’s about her, isn’t it?” I asked.

“Yes, she’s getting a bit out of hand now. I can hardly stand her behavior.”

“But, didn’t you used to love her?” I blurted out loud without thinking.
