Chapter 186

Elena:

I was quiet as Vladimir walked out of the room.

For a whole week, the two of us wouldn’t speak. However, to my surprise, neither once did he insult me. Even when I knew that I was doing something that he didn’t like, when I tried to attract his attention. All he did was look at me. He didn’t say a word to comment.

Tears fell from my eyes, but I was quick to wipe them before anyone saw them. I knew that I was going to need to leave the room, and the idea of meeting Konstantin was not one that I wanted. But I knew better than to keep hiding.

I walked out of the bedroom, my heart aching when I saw Vladimir with one of the maids. The two of them spoke, and I could swear that I saw her trying to flirt with him.

“You see, I told you, it was only a matter of time before he grew tired of you. And here it is, the man has grown tired of you to the point where he doesn’t even bother looking at you.” Konstantin said, catching my attention. I took a step back and turned to look at him, knowing that he was the last person that I would want to play against.

“The two of us may have a cold moment, but it doesn’t mean…”

“It starts out as what you call ‘a cold moment’ then it goes around for weeks, months, and then years. You are going to be one of those forgotten women, and he is going to have others. Each one of them is going to be pleasing him in ways that you won’t…”

“Elena, go to the room or the garden. Whatever it is that you came here to do, I suggest that you go and do it.” Vladimir said, stopping his uncle. “And I believe that you know that I don’t like anyone to interfere with my private life. And Elena IS my private life.”

“A private life who has been neglecting her duties. I was merely reminding her of them.” Konstantin said, and Vladimir growled. Konstantin took a deep breath, clearly startled, but I didn’t dare to move. He asked me to, but I couldn’t find myself moving away from behind him.

“The next time anyone is to interfere in my life, I am going to be sure that they pay for it. No matter who the person is,” Vladimir said.

“Is that a threat?”

“You can take it as you wish. You know for fact what I am capable of doing. And the fact that Killian is coming here doesn’t make our night any shorter. I think that you should know that we have a lot to prepare for, and neither one of the things are going to be delaying themselves because you are choosing to play the loving uncle with my woman.” Vladimir said, not bothering to look at me. “And I said a word, Elena, and I think that you of all people should know that I do not like to repeat myself twice.”

Konstantin took a step back before turning to leave, but regardless of Vladimir’s warning, I didn’t move. He was doing it to send Konstantin off, I knew that. He turned to face me, and I couldn’t help but frown when he wrapped his hand around my arm.

“You really are stubborn, aren’t you?” He asked, taking me to the room. He walked inside the room and locked the door before turning around to face me. His demeanor shifting almost completely as he stood.

“One of the things that caught your attention amidst the trouble that we have all been playing at.” I said, and he smirked before leaning in. He pecked my lips quickly, taking me off guard. “You have something in mind.”

“As if ignoring you was the easiest thing that I could have done.” He said, and I looked away from him.

“You are going to pay for it,” I said, and he smiled. He cupped my cheeks, making me look him in the eye. His eyes softened and for the first time in a week, I saw his love in them.

“I am more than willing to take whatever anger you aim to throw at me. But let the night pass, and we are going to be out of here.” He said, making me frown in confusion. I had to admit, for a moment, I waited for him to tell me that he was joking, but he didn’t, my heart raced against my ribcage.

“You’re being serious?” I asked, and he nodded.

“I found what I was looking for.” He said, not bothering to give me any details. I didn’t expect him to anyway. The less I knew sometimes, the better. It was a rule that I learned the hard way.

“Vladimir, do not put yourself in more danger than you need to. I know that things are going to be complicated, but…” he connected his lips with mine, stopping me. I kissed him back almost instantly, and he took a deep breath as the two of us pulled away to rest our foreheads against one another’s.

Our eyes were fixed on one another to look at each other, and I couldn’t help but find myself worrying about him.

“Killian is arriving in a bit, and no matter what you hear when he is here, I don’t want you to move out of this room until I come to bring you.” He said, running his finger over my cheek. “And IF things are to turn in a way that we don’t…”

“Vladimir, don’t say that.” I said, stopping him.

“Natasha is going to come and get you. She is a friend, a sister, even. She is going to get you out of here if I can’t. But unless you hear her name or my voice, do not open this door for anyone, am I making myself clear, malyshka?” He said, not paying any attention to what I said. “We will be going home tonight. I promise you, we have reached the end of this chapter…”
