~Celine~
A grin crept up my face as I stared at Alpha Kilhan while he slept. Last night was a blast. We didn’t fall asleep until the early hours of this morning.
‘I should let him rest well. I have things to do.’ I thought, recalling what Betty did to me at my welcome party.
‘She needs to learn never to do that to me.’
Slowly and carefully, I got out of Alpha Kilhan’s bed and headed out of his room. Bursting into the hallway, I met two of the omegas walking towards my direction.
As soon as they saw me, they lowered their heads. I lowered my head too and walked past them before they moved from where they stood.
I was just getting used to the respect I got from every one of them.
I got to my room’s door and turned to grab the door knob, when someone suddenly tapped me from behind. I jolted and turned back to see Betty grinning stupidly behind me.
‘Really?!’ I thought in disgust, wondering why she was smiling at me. Nothing is funny. Not when she’s around.
I shot her a stern look and proceeded to turn my door knob. The door gave way, and I headed into the room.
Immediately, I turned back to shut the door, but then she stopped it with her hand.
“Listen, Jessica, I know you’re mad at me.” She uttered, making me scoff in disbelief.
“If you know that, why are you here this morning?” I asked, my hand still behind my door, ready to slam it against her face anytime she let go.
“I’m here to tell you why I did what I did yesterday…”
“There is nothing you can say that will justify you humiliating me in front of everyone. You made your point clear. You are the first person I should hate in this house, and I got that information right.”
I tried to slam the door shut but she insisted, holding onto the door firmly from outside.
“I told you his favorite color was white because I noticed you two haven’t known each other the way you’re supposed to. If I didn’t do that and make you feel that way, you may never see the need of getting to know Kilhan well.”
“Oh, please. All you could have done was tell me the truth about it. You didn’t have to act like a b**ch to make your point clear. And whether I know Kilhan well or not is none of your business.”
“You almost killed him at the dining table. Of course, it’s my business.” She butted in, still smiling like we were besties.
“F**k you.” I mumbled in frustration, wanting to pounce on her right there and destroy her pretty face.
“I’m sorry.” Her smile slowly faded off as she said this.
“What are you sorry for?” I let go of the door and folded my arms on my chest, staring at her intensely.
“For lying to you about Kilhan’s best color. It actually used to be his best color, until recently, he grew to hate it. I did that so that I could push you into asking him questions about himself. Kilhan is a very good yet strange man. You need to be able to know him and understand him well.” She explained.
“Well, you don’t have to tell me that. I’m pretty aware of this. You saying you’re sorry doesn’t mean I’m going to accept that apology.”
“But I’m very serious! I’m sorry, Jessica. It will never happen again. I want us to be friends, not enemies. At least you can’t deny I didn’t make you ask him some questions you wouldn’t on a normal basis.”
Clenching my jaws, I swallowed hard as I thought about what she said. She was right.
I wouldn’t have bothered asking Alpha Kilhan those questions if she didn’t act the way she did.
But I wasn’t going to make it so easy for her.
“C’mon, Jessica. You don’t have to think so hard about it. Look at the good side, would you? Now you know more about Kilhan. Just forgive me already.”
“You want me to forgive you? Then the first thing you have to stop doing is calling Kilhan without his title.” I uttered, and she furrowed her brows.
“You mean I should call him Alpha Kilhan? But he doesn’t mind. Anyone can…”
“Well, I mind. Especially if it’s coming from you.” I cut her short. I moved out of my room, closing the gap between us, our eyes fixed on one another.
“I am his Luna. Only I have the right to call him by his name. You may be best friends, but I’m here now. That relationship can never be the way it used to be. Now, excuse me.”
Walking into the room again, I slammed the door against her like I wanted to. Getting to the middle of the room, a satisfied grin curved up the corners of my lips.
‘I’m so proud of you. You put her in her place.” Kiara uttered, causing me to chuckle.
“What did you expect? She tried to mess with me. No one should mess with Celine Gomez.”
‘It’s Jessica Hale now, remember?’ Kiara answered.
“Regardless, I’m still a tough woman and I wouldn’t make it easy for her to treat me anyhow.”
Just then, my phone began to ring. I reached for it and checked the screen. The caller was an unknown person.
I moved my finger to my screen slowly as I began to contemplate whether to answer or not.
“What if it’s my father calling?” I mumbled, staring suspiciously at the phone number.
I shook my head and moved my finger away. “Not today.” I mumbled, placing the phone on the bed.
Taking long strides toward my television, I switched it on again. I recalled the news about the driver that brought me to New York City and sadness filled my heart again.
‘My father must have done unspeakable things to him. And what about his family?! He said he has a family.’ While these thoughts filled my head, a message popped into my phone.
The notification sound interrupted my thoughts. I picked up my phone and saw that the same unknown number had sent me a text message.
Nervously, I clicked on it and unlocked the message.
“Hi, Jessica. This is Xavier. Please call me when you can.”
My eyes popped wide open when I realized the call was from Xavier. Without hesitation, I clicked on the phone number and dialed it.
He answered the phone almost immediately.
“Xavier?!” I called him.
“Jessica.” His voice sounded low and weak from the other end.
“Oh goddess, are you alright? How are you feeling now?” I became so worried.
“I’m doing better. Thank you for taking me to the hospital when you did, if we stayed a minute longer, I would have lost my life.”
“No, Xavier. It’s nothing. I should say sorry for what happened to you and your father. It really hurts. You’re back home now, aren’t you? How is your mother?”
“She’s very well, thank you. Where are you now? I’d love to see you.”
“Oh… I left Beacon City already. I am in Alpha Kilhan’s house as I speak…”
“Your mate?” He cut me short.
“Yes. Why?”
“We need to see and talk, Jessica. That man isn’t who you think he is. You need to trust me.”
Furrowing my brows, I stood up from my bed and began to pace down the room.
“What do you mean? He confirmed he wasn’t the one who hurt you…”
“And you believed him? How much do you know about this man?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Xavier. Can you please tell me what is going on?” Confusion overwhelmed me in an annoying manner.
“This isn’t something we should talk about over the phone. Let’s meet up, and I’ll tell you the truth behind my attack. But before we meet up, I need you to know that Kilhan is no saint. He’s just so good at pretending.”
“But…”
“I have to go now.”
He hung up afterward, leaving me in awe. I understood nothing of what he said, but one thing I was sure of is that I needed to know what the hell he was talking about.
‘I have to meet with him, whether Alpha Kilhan likes it or not.’
Lying on my bed, I remembered what Betty had said to me again. ‘Kilhan is a very good yet strange man.’
“What did she mean by this?” I asked no one in particular, but then Kiara intervened.
“You are not even supposed to be worried about the words that come out of that lady’s mouth. She always doesn’t make sense to me.”
“Oh please, Kiara! You always find the slightest opportunity to support Alpha Kilhan! We don’t even know him that well. What if he’s someone we don’t want to be close to?”
Kiara remained silent and so was I. My mind went blank as I was unsure what to think again.
‘I am mated to an Alpha I barely know. Of course, all can go wrong!’
