Something could be wrong
~Janine~
I didn’t want to return to Kaden’s home looking so broken but I didn’t know where else I could go, my documents were gripped on my chest as I decided to take a walk and calm my nerves before I got home, I was still shuddering from my encounter with Baron earlier before I stormed out of his office.
If he wants to find out about what I told him, he should go ahead and do it, and when he finds out the truth that I am his biological daughter, he will come looking for me.
I wanted to know about my mother, who was she? And what was she like?
I had just random memories of her which are in the form of a dream.
She was protective of me, and there was no doubt that she loved me when she looked me in the eye, I could see the emotion that was held in there.
Who tried to murder us? And why?
I was still walking when I heard the sound of a car horn distracting my thoughts.
I halted and snapped my head to the side.
The car window was down, and he was staring at me through it with a soft smile. I didn’t get the first few words he said.
“...saw you from afar, and that’s not the way home miss.” He grinned and stopped the car beside me.
I knitted my brows at him. He never listens to me, I told him not to come.
“C’mon.” He gestured to the car door. “I will take you home. I couldn’t leave you alone, and besides we had a meeting close by and I wanted to come pick you up. I don’t like the idea of you taking a taxi when I am here, and there’s a driver in the house too. Do you want me to assign a personal driver for you?” He asked and dropped his hands from the wheel.
I shook my head. I don’t think there would be a need for that.
“Do you have to say no to that? Well...” He shrugged and opened the car door. “I’m doing it still...” He was standing before me, and gently took the documents from my hands. I lowered my gaze, and he leveled himself to my height.
“Look at me.” He spoke softly. “You don’t have to run away from me, Janine. I understand how you feel more than anyone else, that’s why I want to be there for you. I want to be the first person you’ll think of, your comfort place, someone who brings you solace. I want to be that man for you. So don’t run away if you don’t know what to do if you don’t want me to see you broken. We promised to be there for each other didn’t we?” His finger brushed against my cheek.
“It’s gonna be okay.” He whispered and pulled me into his chest.
“Let’s go home.”
I lifted my head and stared at him, I felt something wrong with him but he was trying hard so I didn’t have to notice anything strange about him.
I led me to the car and gently placed his hand above my head so I didn’t bash my head against the car door.
He helped me with the seatbelt as well and in everything he did, he was being cautious with it.
When he was done, he kissed my forehead.
“Don’t worry about anything.” He muttered, and walked round to the driver’s seat and sat down.
I nodded and forced a smile on my lips at him.
He took my hand and squeezed them, and started the car.
When I am with him, I don’t get to worry about anything else, he always makes me feel that everything is gonna be okay and I have to trust him.
I do trust him, I just couldn’t trust myself or what will become of our relationship.
“Did Baron agree that you’re his daughter?” He asked.
I shook my head.
“I knew he’s not gonna accept that quickly, he will have to do his own research and find out you’re truly his child.”
I turned on my side and fixed my eyes on him. ‘Have you found anything about my mother?’ I asked him through the mind link.
‘Nothing yet. There was no record of her, not even a record of her death or who she is or came from. Your father might know something about that, and I heard, she came from a rare lineage of werewolves from my father. She’s a leader, she led a certain clan but we haven’t found any of them either. Like they disappeared from the pack.’ Kaden responded and glanced at me. He held my gaze for a while before he took his gaze back to the road.
‘Are you okay?’ I asked after contemplating it for a while.
His eyes glinted when he stared at me, I didn’t know what emotions were in there because they disappeared quickly as if it was never there.
He hummed in reply.
“Should I turn on some music?”
I shook my head and slipped my hand off his grip. I leaned against the car seat and exhaled, lowering the glass of the window, and stared at the passing scenery.
‘Do you think we’ll ever find out about my mother?’ I inquired without sparing him a glance.
‘Doctor James is still working on it. I’m sure he will find something about her, we found out about your Dad, we can find her.’ He assured me.
I nodded and tapped my fingers on the thighs. ‘And me?’ I blurted out.
I felt Kaden’s hand as clasped them in mine.
‘What about you?’
‘My voice, I want to know what happened to me, how come I stopped talking, Kaden I wasn’t born mute.’
The car screeched to a sudden halt, and Kaden grasped my hands. He stared into my eyes intently, he squeezed my hands, let go of them, and placed his hands on my face.
‘Did something happen to you that made you lose your voice?’
