Chapter 38 EZEKIEL
EZEKIEL
It's still hard to believe that Jerald is a traitor. For someone like him to betray me that means I can't trust anyone. I didn't tell the council about Jerald or what he did. I will handle him myself.
The witches working with the devils definitely have someone they are controlling just like the other witches controlled Jerald. That's why I need to be careful. I will no longer tell the council my plan. I will handle this myself with the help of the few people I trust.
I know in this situation I shouldn't trust anyone, but we are humans and we are meant to trust even if it's one person in our life. In this situation the only people I trust are Dalia, Nikolai, Creigh, Aaron, Lena and elder Owen. If any of these people betray me, then I will know that trust is such a useless phrase.
The seven of us as a team sit together to have a discussion on the next step to take. Elder Owen is yet to find out the identity of those strange creatures that attacked. He said that maybe the creatures were forged by the witches because they don't seem to be in existence.
We need to do something to lure the witches working with the devils out. They watch our every move and it seems like we are the ones in the shadows. So we need to find them to watch their every move too.
“I believe the witches working with the devils have someone close to us they are controlling just like Jerald was controlled by other witches.” Aaron states. Looks like he has the same thought as me.
“That's why we are handling this alone and won't trust anyone. And we need to keep an eye on anyone acting suspicious.” I affirm.
I know it won't be easy to fish the person, but we still got to try. I mean if Dalia didn't enter Annika's mind, she wouldn't have found out that Jerald is a traitor.
“Sarah is a witch. I believe she will help us find other witches. Even though she has not been in contact with them all her life. There will still be a connection,” Dalia says, glancing at us one after the other.
“The thing is we don't know where the witch is hiding her or if she's still alive or dead.” Nikolai chips in.
“I can find her but it will be very risky…”
“Then you won't do it.” I cut in. I haven't forgotten the pain of nearly losing her. I won't go through that again.
“We have no choice, Ezekiel.” she retorts. “My mother made me learn about the witches. Maybe it is because they will be part of this war or maybe they know more than we think they know. Finding the witches is taking a huge step in achieving our goal.”
“And I don't fucking care. You won't risk your life and that's final!”
“Well you don't have any right to tell me what to do! For your information, I was born for this. It doesn't matter if I live or die while I try to fulfil my destiny.”
“It fucking matters because I won't have you dead!”
She's just so fucking stubborn. But if she thinks that I will let her risk her life just to find Sarah, then she must be dreaming.
I move close to her, hovering above her. “Listen, little monster. We will find Sarah, but I will not allow you to risk your life and that's fucking final.”
I can see the fire of defiance in her eyes. She's still bent on doing what she wants. And the look in her eyes says that she doesn't mind breaking my neck to do it. She's so ever ready for violence despite how little she is. That's why I call her little monster.
“Come on guys. No need to draw up all these tensions. We will figure out how to find Sarah and it's not something we should argue about,” Nikolai speaks up.
“If Dalia knows a way to find Sarah. Then I don't think we should stop her. It's not like we have any other plan,” Lena says.
“What the fuck Lena!” I growl.
“Chill, Kiel. For us to achieve our goal, we all here will definitely risk our lives one way or the other. Let's fucking face the reality.”
“How do you plan on finding Sarah?” Creigh asks, breaking the tension.
“I just need one of her personal belongings. I know of a few spells that can help. It may work or it may not work, but we have to try.”
“How did you learn how to use spells?” Lena asks.
“I read a lot of spell books. I possess different kinds of powers and I also have the ability to manipulate the powers of other beings, that's why I can handle a few spells.”
“So when are you going to carry out the plan?” Elder Owen questions.
“It definitely won't be today. She's literally just waking up after being unconscious for days.” I chimp in.
“I will carry out the plan tomorrow.”
…….
After the small meeting, I walk to my office. I don't like the fact that Dalia hasn't rested since she woke up, but I know she won't listen to me if I tell her to do so. She went to meet Leon at the training ground.
I'm in my office going through some files when Lena walks in.
“You know you should rest for the day,” she says with a smile as she sits in front of me.
“I just want to be done with this paper work. There's a lot on my table right now.”
“And know you are not alone. I will always be here for you.” She beams.
“I know that quite well.” I say with a smile. “How's things going in the hospital?”
“Everything is fine. Don't worry, I can handle the hospital.”
“But I know it will be too much work for you. Dalia will start working with you very soon. She's not a doctor but she studied anatomy and she's good.” Come to think of it, she's literally good at almost everything.
“She doesn't have to. I can handle the hospital myself.”
“I know you can, but I don't want you to stress yourself too much,” I interject. She just smiled faintly and didn't push further.
“Are you going to accept her as your mate?” she asks, breaking the few seconds silence.
I pause with what I'm doing as her words sink in my head. I know the effect Dalia has on me, and yet I'm conflicted. I almost lost it a few days ago when I thought I'd lose her.
What I feel for her is it really the mate bond or is there something more?
No…. It's just the mate bond.
If there's any way we can break it. Will she still mean something to me?
‘This is not about the mate bond, Ezekiel. This is about your feelings.’ Erik says with so much conviction.
‘I don't have feelings for her. It's definitely the mate bond, and once all this is over. I'm going to find a way to break it.’
‘There's no other way to break it if not rejecting her, so snap out of it.’
I know. I'm just being delusional.
I know I can't accept Dalia, but I still want her. It's just all fucked up.
“Kiel, Kiel….”
Lena's voice snaps me out of my thoughts. I blink my eyes and stare at her.
“You spaced out.”
I sigh and give her a small smile. “I just had something on my mind.”
“You want her Kiel. Why are you punishing yourself by rejecting her.”
I rub my palm in my face in frustration. “The thing is that I am forced to want her. This is the work of the mate bond. And it's all Selene's plan to bend me to her will, but I will never allow it.”
“What the fuck happened between you and Selene.” she mumbled.
I groan as I stand up walking towards the window. I just don't want to have this conversation with her. I stand in front of the window which gives a clear view of the training ground. I look outside and my eyes fall on Dalia. She's on top of Dennis, laughing.
I clench my fist as both the feeling of jealousy and anger consumes me.
