Chapter 73 Eiden

Chapter 73 Eiden
Eiden's POV

I actually didn't want to go to that meeting.

I don't know why Alpha Jacob of the White Sea Pack and Alpha Brandon of the Green Sea Pack came up with the idea to hold such an event.

They invited all the werewolf Alphas and really expected us to accept the invitation.

They swore we wouldn't regret sitting through hours of their ramblings.

“I don’t have many enemies. I shouldn’t have to listen to their lectures,” I grumbled.

Every seat had a name. We had to find ours.

I sat in the middle of the room, in the second row, very close to the podium.

To my right was Alpha Lucas from the River Circle Pack, and to my left was Alpha Henry from the River Hexagon Pack.

I didn’t want to know who was sitting in front of and behind me. While waiting for Alpha Jacob and Alpha Brandon to start the event, I played on my phone.

“I agree with you,” Alpha Lucas said. He heard me while he was busy chatting with Alpha Zavier from the River Triangle Pack since they arrived.

I was one of the first guests to arrive because I was already annoyed after listening to the elders repeatedly tell me that I had to attend this “very useful” event.

“Everyone knows you have a lot of enemies, and you like to attack them first.” I glared at Alpha Lucas. “You’re different from me. You like to stir things up.”

Alpha Lucas was once a Beta. The late Alpha Eric had no heir. Therefore, Alpha Lucas and his descendants were designated Alphas for the River Circle Pack.

It turned out he was just as crazy as Alpha Eric.

"But I never attack rogues or small packs," Alpha Lucas said proudly, as if his actions reflected that he was kind and far from arrogant.

"So I shouldn't have been invited to this event." Alpha Lucas made an offended face. He truly believed he was a sinless person.

"Then you shouldn't have come," I sneered.

“You were also upset about being invited to this event. Then why did you come?” Alpha Lucas asked me instead.

I stared at Alpha Lucas expressionlessly and sighed heavily. I really didn't want to bother with him any longer.

Alpha Lucas grinned and patted my shoulder. Then he whispered to me, “I want to see Alpha Romeo's and Alpha Andrew's annoyed faces. They have the most enemies."

I'd never thought about that before.

Alpha Lucas made me realize that others had the same thoughts as him. Alpha Jacob and Alpha Brandon had deliberately placed Alpha Andrew and Alpha Romeo in the front seats.

“Good afternoon, everyone.” Alpha Jacob stood at the podium, gripping the microphone tightly. A wide smile spread across his face, his eyes roaming the room.

“Thank you all for taking the time to be here.” Alpha Jacob looked genuinely happy and relieved. “I knew you would all come,” he chuckled.

The event started right on schedule, just as stated on the invitation.

Every seat in the room was filled. The meeting was held inside one of the buildings of the White Sea Pack.

I couldn't help but wonder how Alpha Jacob and Alpha Brandon had managed to gather every Alpha werewolf in one place. Their influence was undeniable.

"Okay, I won't beat around the bush." Alpha Jacob cleared his throat. He didn't seem nervous at all.

“Alpha Brandon and I got the idea to hold this event after we saw a lot of wars happening recently in our clan.

“This makes the werewolf clan look even more terrifying and dominant on this planet.” Alpha Jacob looked at everyone seriously.

Damn. His words offended me.

I never attack an enemy first or provoke them.

My warrior squad and I couldn't just stand still when the enemy attacked us.

“We are brothers. We shouldn’t fight.” Alpha Brandon took the microphone. He was the oldest Alpha in the werewolf clan. No one knew when he would pass the crown to his heir.

“We should help each other and forgive each other.” Alpha Brandon emphasized his words, his emotions stifled in his throat.

“We shouldn’t be hurting and killing each other.” Alpha Brandon raised his voice, the veins bulging in his neck.

“You have the power to end grudges that have lasted for decades, even centuries, and stop passing that hatred on to our future generations.”

No one said a word, but their expressions spoke volumes. None of the attendees agreed with Alpha Brandon’s statement.

I honestly want peace, but I will not take the initiative to start that discussion with my enemies.

For over an hour, Alpha Jacob and Alpha Brandon discussed war and peace.

The projected screen showed the war casualties over the years. Many of the survivors carried lifelong trauma after watching their parents and loved ones die violently right in front of them.

Many warriors also lived with regret after killing hundreds of their enemies.

The entire pack has an orphanage and a mental hospital for war victims.

However, the event wouldn't change anything. Alpha Andrew said that if there were no war, the world would be deserted, and there would be no challenges to survival.

I both agree and disagree with his statement. It's hard to imagine everyone being friends and trying not to have conflicts.

The event ended after dinner. We ate together with jazz music.

I immediately left the White Sea Pack and declined Alpha Lucas and Alpha Matteo's invitation to chat with Alpha Delrico, Alpha Zavier, and Alpha Leander.

I hadn't come here to make new friends.

Another reason was that Alpha Delrico and Alpha Zavier were also enemies of Alpha Romeo and Alpha Andrew.

The warrior drove the car at a moderate speed. Five other warriors were in the car behind us.

I leaned back in my chair with my eyes closed. I was no longer afraid of sleeping. The nightmares had completely disappeared.

“Alpha Jacob and Alpha Brandon are so strange,” I muttered.

“They forbade us from attacking each other because he wanted the werewolf clan to be filled with peace, but why don’t they forbid the alphas from attacking rogues and exterminating lycans?”

I furrowed my brows. “Are they pretending not to know that the rogues and lycans who fell victim to the war are in a much more miserable condition?”

For the past decade, any werewolf pack that attacked its enemies was required to fight only in forests or designated open areas approved as battlefields.

This agreement was made to protect civilians.

“Shit.” I was pushed forward when the driver braked suddenly.

"I'm sorry, Alpha. I didn't tell you before I braked because those two people suddenly appeared." The warrior apologized to me, his hands trembling in front of his chest.

"Two people?" I jumped in surprise at the sound of a harsh knock on the window before I could figure out who the two people the warrior was referring to.

A man wearing a black jacket and a white mask stood in front of the car, brandishing a machete, while another man was tapping relentlessly on the window next to me with a machete.

"Who are they?" I frowned.

There was no sense of danger. They wouldn't be able to break through a car window specifically engineered to resist bullets and sharp weapons.

My three warrior wolves, who were in the car behind me, approached the two mysterious men.

Their growls sounded terrifying under the moonlight and attracted the attention of other wolves nearby. We were near the gate to the River Pack Clan.

The two men fled, leaving a question mark in my head.

Were they thugs trying to rob me? Didn't they see my pack's flag displayed on the front grille of my car?

Then I got a text from an unknown number.

\[That woman is dangerous. You'll regret not asking me.\]

Do I really need to be wary of Celeste?
