Chapter 72 Celeste
Celeste's POV
I sat in the car on the way to the casino. I wasn't going there to gamble away money and hope luck would favor me.
I don't play cards, and I didn't want to learn.
The sky was turning orange when I arrived at the five-story building. There were already a lot of parked cars.
Its grandeur lured fools who wanted to lose themselves all night, never stopping to think about whether they’d still be alive tomorrow, go bankrupt, be hunted by loan sharks, or be beaten into permanent injury.
Okay, I'll stop thinking about why they are so stupid. They didn't deserve my attention.
I didn't enter through the main door. The executive door at the back of the building was designated for us, rogue assassins.
The casino building belonged to Alpha Greg. He granted Alpha Yon and me permission to enter and exit safely, as long as we notified him a day in advance.
Alpha Romeo of the Mountain Twins Pack and Alpha Kiano of the Red Forest Group were already waiting for me in a room on the fifth floor.
Alpha Greg provided a room on the top floor for Alpha Yon and me to rent. Most importantly, our schedules didn’t overlap.
I touched the half-face mask I was wearing. Only my rosy red lips were visible. A beret concealed my hair, neatly tied into a bun.
This was how I looked when meeting clients. From head to toe, everything was black except for the white shirt beneath my blazer.
David opened the door. He was wearing only glasses and a fake mustache. He was confident that no one would be able to guess his face.
David had another role besides being Liam's fake uncle. Gamma Silas had ordered David to escort me. Usually, it wasn't him, but yeah, I didn't really care; the most important thing was that someone could protect me.
“Nice to meet you, Alpha Romeo, Alpha Kiano.” I smiled politely and spoke to them in a friendly manner.
There was no one else around, but they didn’t mind David following me.
“Nice to meet you, Madam,” Alpha Romeo and Alpha Kiano replied in unison. They knew neither my first nor last name. My identity was a secret. “Please, take a seat.”
I sat down on the sofa in front of them. The fruit and cup of tea on the table caught my attention. They were being too formal with me.
“Thank you very much for meeting with us in person,” Alpha Romeo said firmly.
He was the Alpha werewolf. The Mountain Twins Pack had the largest number of warriors among the werewolf packs.
Therefore, the Alphas of the pack often invited other Alphas to join them in attacking rogues or lycans.
However, Alpha Romeo seemed different. He wasn't as ambitious about expanding his territory and exterminating lycans.
Perhaps because he was only a temporary Alpha, he would pass his power to Arthur, the only son of the late Alpha Cassian, when the boy was ready to take over.
Nevertheless, Alpha Romeo remained fearsome. His warriors obeyed his commands.
“I’m so excited to meet my clients.” I smiled broadly and nodded. Honestly, I was lying. Working in the office was much more enjoyable.
“I would actually be quite satisfied just reading your files, but I think it’s better to hear it from you,” Alpha Romeo said, dropping the small talk as we were short on time.
“I understand you.” I nodded, silently observing the two men in front of me, even though it was David’s job. “News like this is more exciting when you hear it, not read it.”
“Yes, that’s right.” Alpha Kiano nodded twice. “I’m curious to see you, too.” He chuckled shyly.
I smiled faintly.
Alpha Kiano is a rogue Alpha. He befriends several werewolf Alphas, preventing any werewolf Alphas from attacking his pack.
I have to be careful around those two men because Alpha Romeo is Alpha Eiden's enemy.
But I was not afraid of them. We intimidate each other and try to dominate one another. That was because we were the leaders of our pack.
"What's the latest news on the virus-creating organization you have to give us?" Alpha Romeo asked, unable to contain his curiosity any longer.
“Their headquarters, which we have been investigating for five months, were empty six days ago. They left nothing behind. Their trail vanished overnight.
"We never heard them discuss moving to their other headquarters through that underground tunnel.
"We've already explored that underground tunnel. Unfortunately, we were too late; they've already buried it with compacted earth and large rocks.
“We’re still tracking their movements and narrowing down which headquarters they’re using now. We won’t stop until we locate them.”
I said this with annoyance in my voice and admiration in my eyes.
The members of that organization were truly amazing. They moved to a new location in two hours without making a sound that would have attracted the attention of my agents, along with Alpha Yon and Alpha Greg.
“Why are they so hard to find?” Alpha Romeo growled. “I regret not burning down the building you found.”
The first headquarters of the virus-creating organization we discovered was burned down by the warrior forces of Alpha Romeo, Alpha Andrew, Alpha Kiano, Alpha Juliet, and Alpha Johannes six months ago.
We deliberately didn't reveal the locations of the second organisation's headquarters because we needed them investigated, even though we didn't have any new information.
"They really can't be underestimated," Alpha Kiano said, shaking his head.
"Who's funding them? They have five headquarters, and the materials to make the virus aren't cheap. They've been around for three years." Alpha Kiano summarized the information we'd gathered.
"We're looking for the founder of that organization. He won't be able to hide from us forever," I said confidently.
"We're waiting for that news," Alpha Romeo said, intertwining his ten fingers and staring at me with deep hatred for the organization.
"We can't let them live and watch more children suffer," Alpha Romeo said bitterly. Compassion for the victims flashed in his eyes.
Alpha Romeo has a deep-seated reason for holding a grudge against the organisation that created the virus. A reason even his friends didn't know.
Our meeting didn't last more than thirty minutes.
Alpha Romeo invited me to speak with him in person because he wanted to make sure my group and I really existed.
Yeah, a lot of people think we're not real. Strangely, they feel that way.
“How was your talk with Alpha Romeo and Alpha Kiano, Alpha?”
I had only been sitting in my office for five minutes when Beta Dylan entered.
“I got the money. Don’t you know what that means?” I snorted as I checked my laptop.
“Are you afraid they’ll find out about you and Alpha Eiden?”
I flinched when I realized he was standing beside me. The sharp reek of alcohol made my nose wrinkle instantly. He liked to drink, but this was the first time he’d come to me drunk.
“Of course.” I stood up and faced him. Warning alarms blared in my mind. I stayed tense, bracing myself for whatever he might do.
“I don’t like that man. I’ve loved you for so long. I should have you.” Beta Dylan slapped his chest, his eyes welling with tears.
“If you choose that man, I won't let any of us live!” Beta Dylan roared, slamming his fist onto the table, his face burning red with rage.
He was drunk, which meant he was telling the truth. He was more than dangerous; he was insane.
“You—” I shoved him back in panic, a chill running through me as he advanced.
I clamped a hand over my mouth, eyes wide, as Beta Dylan crashed to the floor. He grimaced before losing consciousness.
'You should consider my idea,' my wolf said seriously. 'I will risk my life against his wolf.'
I was afraid of losing my wolf. There was no point in my living without her, but I was sick of Beta Dylan and uncomfortable.
