Chapter 40 Celeste

Chapter 40 Celeste
Celeste's POV

Levi and I have only been dropping Liam off at school this week.

I was truly grateful that nothing bad had happened to him, and there were no signs that the werewolf-hating organization was planning to approach Liam anytime soon. I sincerely hoped they would remove him from their target list.

I would never get used to this routine. Still, I felt slightly relieved knowing that David, who played the role of Liam’s uncle, was one of our professional agents, and that Levi was playing with the children at the base under the supervision of Beta Dylan or Gamma Silas.

"Liam's only been at that kindergarten for two months," I muttered, staring at the document in my hand. "He graduates in seven months."

I pressed a hand to my forehead. This anxiety would stay with me for months until he graduated and started elementary school.

“Which elementary school will Liam attend?” I frowned. Benedict and I hadn't discussed this yet.

"Should I discuss where Liam will go to elementary school with Alpha Eiden?" I pondered, glancing at my personal phone on the table. Alpha Eiden would ask me if Liam had gotten home from school in a text message. I already knew that habit of his.

"Of course, I have to discuss Liam's elementary, middle, high school, and college with Alpha Eiden." I nodded, tapping my head with a pen. "I'll ask Liam, too. Maybe he has a school he wants."

I hope Alpha Eiden doesn't force Liam to attend the school he's chosen.

"It seems Liam is already preparing himself to live in his biological father's pack someday."

I was saddened by the thought of being separated from Liam and raising Levi alone, but I couldn't stop Liam if he chose his biological father. There, he wouldn't have to fear the werewolf-hating organization.

‘I hope Liam doesn’t get his hopes up. I mean, thinking Alpha Eiden will make him his heir and will only love him because Alpha Eiden hasn’t met his second mate and had children with her yet.’ My wolf reminded me of what could have happened.

I didn't want to see Liam sad and heartbroken because his father forgot him and chose a new life with his second mate and their child.

This was what happened when our mate rejected us and came back into our lives.

Should I not allow Liam to attend school in Alpha Eiden's pack so they don't get closer? That way, when Alpha Eiden meets his second mate, Liam won't miss him.

I was overthinking this, but it was important to think seriously because we didn't know if Alpha Eiden's second mate would be a good stepmother to Liam.

"I know being a stepmother isn't easy, especially for young women who haven't had children or have never cared for them."

I let out a sigh while signing the document, my mouth muttering about Liam and Alpha Eiden, yet my eyes remained fixed on the text, my brain memorizing it all. Strange, right?

I stopped thinking about Liam's future when I received an email from Alpha Yon. He invited Alpha Greg and me to meet to discuss a group of people searching for our base.

"He just wanted to meet me," I snorted.

A week ago, I caught Alpha Yon watching me as I sat in the arcade, waiting for Alpha Eiden and my two boys. He was probably trying to make sure of what kind of relationship I had with Alpha Eiden.

I told Beta Dylan about the meeting invitation I had received from Alpha Yon. An hour later, the man came to my office and sat down in front of my desk.

"I didn't expect those people to make Alpha Yon so uneasy." Beta Dylan smiled scornfully. He wouldn't have dared say or smile like that in front of Alpha Yon.

"He doesn't seem to believe in the magic that's protected his base for decades." Beta Dylan shook his head, that annoying smile still on his face.

“Isn’t his base much easier to find than ours or Alpha Greg’s?” I didn’t think Alpha Yon’s concern was funny or odd.

"Yeah, you're right, I forgot about that." Beta Dylan nodded. He offered me a lollipop, the same kind he had. “It’s natural for him to be panicking.”

"I'll accept his invitation." I stared at Alpha Yon's email, the one I still hadn't replied to. “Maybe he has a good idea to stop those people or make them realize that finding rogue assassin bases is impossible.”

“Yeah, I hope so,” Beta Dylan said. “Or he’ll ask for your opinions. You guys discuss it until you find the right solution.”

I nodded twice. My brows drew together. All we had done was tighten our security and monitor the group more closely.

I looked at Beta Dylan, who was reading the documents I had signed. My heart was pounding, as I was sure this was the perfect time to talk to him about it.

“Beta.”

“Yes?” He looked at me with a raised eyebrow.

"Liam wants to stay at his biological father's house again. Can you let him? You know Alpha Eiden has been more strict about his pack ever since Alpha Jackson found out about us," I said, pleading with him to reconsider.

He didn't like this discussion, but even though we were terrified that our identities would be revealed, we couldn't deny that Liam was Alpha Eiden's son.

We had wide-reaching connections, and our assassins could kill dozens of people in a matter of minutes, but we couldn’t silence everyone or make people forget the news they had read or heard about us.

"I'll think about it, and we'll have to discuss it with Gamma Silas and the agent DA." Beta Dylan didn't want to rush into giving his opinion.

I was relieved he didn't immediately forbid Liam from staying at Alpha Eiden's house.

Yesterday, Liam had a video call with Alpha Eiden. Afterward, he expressed his desire to stay at his father's house again, even though his eyes filled with doubt and shyness.

Liam had no idea what Alpha Jackson knew. I wondered if Alpha Eiden would tell us. He had no idea I already knew.

I left the room when Liam arrived home. We hugged, and I blushed when he kissed me on the cheek.

Liam hurriedly changed his clothes and joined Levi and the other kids playing on the slide.

I shook my head, a wide smile spreading across my face as I watched Liam and Levi hugging, shaking their bodies and laughing.

Beta Dylan sat in a chair on the porch. We smiled at each other.

I returned to my office and replied to Alpha Eiden's message. He was a stickler for the rules. He could have sent his warrior spies to protect Liam if they were good at hiding.

My eyes widened when Alpha Eiden called me after he asked if I had five minutes.

"Hello." My heart skipped a beat at the sound of his deep voice. "I'm sorry I bothered you."

"Hello," I replied. "Yeah, you did bother me." I didn't lie to him.

Alpha Eiden paused for a moment. "I apologize again."

“Come on, don’t apologize anymore.” I rolled my eyes. “Just say what you want to say.”

“Alright. Alright.” Alpha Eiden panicked when he found out I was upset with him. “I called because I wanted to thank you. Thanks to those two videos of baby Liam and talking to Liam on video calls, I was able to sleep without nightmares.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” I said sincerely.

“When the three of you stayed at my place, I slept soundly without any nightmares,” he said. I know he was smiling big there. “I think Liam was keeping the nightmares from attacking me.” He chuckled.

“Maybe you’re right.” I rubbed my arm as the thought crossed my mind. Alpha Eiden could use his nightmares to get Liam to live with him.

“I hope you’ll stay at my house again,” Alpha Eiden said. “I’ve already chosen some paintings to show you.”

“That sounds interesting. Liam will be happy to hear it.” I smiled.

“I’ll take Liam and Levi to paint. I want to paint you.” I gasped in surprise at his words. A blush suddenly appeared on my cheeks.

A second later, Alpha Eiden realized what he had just said. “I mean, we’ll paint you.”

“I’d be honored to be your model,” I said. I held back a smile. I shook my head. Alpha Eiden had made me misunderstand him.
