Chapter 38 Eiden

Chapter 38 Eiden
Eiden's POV

My conversation with Alpha Matteo and Alpha Giovano had come to an end.

I got into Alpha Matteo's car because we were heading in the same direction. The entire way, I just listened to him talk. He wasn't gossiping; he was bragging about his businesses.

He owns countless businesses and investments in different companies. I’ve always wondered why he’s never been named as the world’s richest man. Perhaps it’s because of his generosity; he runs dozens of orphanages and nursing homes.

We were checked at the rogue clan border office for an hour. I wasn't the only one who knew Paulo. That's good, it means he's really trustworthy.

Alpha Matteo was just like me, he never attacked the rogues, but still, the rogues were looking at us warily.

Leaving the rogue clan, we headed straight for the restaurant at the foot of the mountain, between the rogue and werewolf clans. It was the only place where werewolves and rogues could peacefully meet.

Alpha Lucas of the River Circle Pack had been sitting there for ten minutes.

“Why are you daydreaming?” I asked as I sat down next to him.

“I just wanted to think about nothing. Just stare at the mountain.” Alpha Lucas grinned broadly.

“That’s strange.” Alpha Matteo frowned. “You’re not good at daydreaming.” Alpha Lucas pursed his lips.

We chose our food and drinks, then chatted while we waited for our lunch.

We stopped talking when the waiter placed our food and drinks on the table. I missed eating lunch with Celeste, Liam, and Levi.

After we finished eating, we chatted again.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had lunch together,” Alpha Lucas said, stirring his drink with a straw.

“Yeah, we’ve been busy.” Alpha Matteo nodded. “When was the last time the three of us sat together like this?”

“Six months ago, when Alpha Lucas got drunk for some reason.” I glanced at the man, who was blushing.

“You’re absolutely right.” Alpha Matteo glared at Alpha Lucas. “I was having fun with my wife, we—”

“You don’t need to talk about that.” Alpha Lucas threw a straw at the man in front of him. “You’re just making me complain. The Moon Goddess is tired of hearing my prayers.”

“Hey, calm down,” Alpha Matteo said. Then he pointed at me. “Look, Alpha Eiden. He never worries about when he’ll find his mate.”

Alpha Lucas gave me a scornful look. “I don’t want to be compared to him.” He snorted. “He never looks for his mate. I’m sure he doesn’t even expect one.”

I grimaced at that. "Who are you? Do you know me that well?" I received a jab in the shoulder from Alpha Lucas.

“You're always dating women who won't ask you to make them your mate.” Alpha Lucas sneered at me as if he could read my mind.

"Those women are just like you, unwilling to commit." Alpha Lucas smiled, satisfied that I couldn't refute his words.

"But he was engaged to that supermodel, even though the engagement ended three months ago." Alpha Matteo looked at me questioningly. He just remembered he never heard my explanation for why my relationship with that woman ended.

"I told you he couldn't commit to a woman." Alpha Lucas was absolutely sure of his assumption. Then he scanned me from head to toe. "But strangely, since he broke up with that woman, he hasn't dated again."

“He’s heartbroken, or tired of having relationships with women.” Alpha Matteo studied me intently, as if I were a statue he was considering buying.

"I'm not heartbroken and tired of dealing with women," I said. "Let's just say I'm bored, and I've got other things demanding my attention."

“Whoa, look at him smiling.” Alpha Lucas touched my cheek. “Whatever it is that’s keeping him from dating is a good thing.”

“Yep, it might stop him from finding happiness in women.” Alpha Matteo nodded twice.

I snorted. They were talking about me as if I weren’t there.

“Stop talking about me.” I glared at them in annoyance. They grinned and listened to me.

“Alpha Matteo is already happy with his mate.” Alpha Lucas nodded his chin at the man in front of him. “Now his happiness is even more complete; his mate is pregnant.”

“Whoa, you’re going to be a father.” I was delighted to hear the news. “Congratulations, dude.” Alpha Matteo smiled shyly.

Then we discussed Alpha Andrew and Alpha Romeo joining forces to attack their enemies. Those two Alphas are enemies of Alpha Lucas and me. We were just waiting to see when they would attack our pack.

“Would you like to attack the Mountain Grass Pack with me?” Alpha Lucas made me a pleasant offer. “Alpha Jackson has been a pain lately, hasn’t he?”

“I’ll consider your offer.” I couldn’t decide on going to war without first discussing it with Gamma Nolan and the head warrior.

We talked about many things, most of which weren’t important enough for me to remember.

I returned to my pack after spending hours out. A mountain of work awaited me.

I thanked Beta Serena profusely and asked her to hand over the remaining documents to me. I encouraged her to find her mate and spend the night having fun.

'When will you discuss Alpha Lucas’s offer with Gamma Nolan and the head warrior?' my wolf asked.

I tried to respond to my wolf as my eyes read the document in my hands.

'I’m sure they won’t agree,' I said. 'Alpha Jackson didn’t attack our pack, and he has my secret. If we attack his pack first, he could use that secret to try to force us to lose the war or something else terrible.'

‘Oh, Moon Goddess, I didn't think about that.’ My wolf shook his head.

I tried my best not to do anything that would cause Alpha Jackson to reveal my secret to the public or to my other enemies.

I ate dinner in my room because the head omega wouldn't stop banging on my door until she saw me enjoying my meal.

I worked late not only because of the endless work, but also because I refused to sleep.

For three days, I had a dream in which vultures were eating me. It felt so real, my whole body ached when I woke up. I was afraid the dreams would come true.

Coffee didn't keep me awake all the time. I yawned a few times, and my eyes watered. I leaned back, walked around, and did whatever it took to stay awake.

I read Celeste's text earlier that afternoon, letting me know Liam had arrived home. After that, we didn't talk anymore because I didn't have time to use my phone. Celeste never texts me first.

My eyes widened,  and my body froze.

“What the heck?” Five seconds later, I reacted to what I had done, but it was too late because Celeste had already answered the phone.

“Hello.”

I pressed a hand to my chest, my heart racing at the sound of her voice. The panic from accidentally calling her disappeared the moment Celeste picked up.

“Hello.” I sat on the sofa, tense. “Did I disturb you?”

“No,” Celeste replied. “I just left Levi’s room. They’re already asleep.”

“They always go to bed on time. It’s so cute,” I commented.

“They know when to sleep.” I was pretty sure Celeste was smiling.

Silence fell over us. I searched for a topic to keep our conversation going.

"I haven’t heard your comment about the lamb sandwich. That was my first time making it. No one helped me.”

“The sandwich was delicious. Not too bad.” I didn’t know if Celeste was complimenting me or just feeling sorry for me. “Thank you so much.”

“I’m glad you liked it.” I covered my lips when I realized he was forming a smile.

“I couldn’t sleep.” I don’t know why I told Celeste that. Maybe it was because she hadn’t responded negatively to my story.

“I don’t want to let those vultures eat me.” I sighed sharply. Those damn birds were cruel.

“I’ll send you videos of baby Liam.” Celeste gave me her precious memories. “Maybe that will help you sleep?”

Her help touched me.

“Thank you so much, Celeste.” I hoped those videos of Liam wouldn’t give me nightmares.

'After watching those videos, try going to sleep,' my wolf advised. I nodded.
