Chapter 37 Eiden
Eiden's POV
“Thanks for your help,” I said to the head omega at my house, gazing at my masterpiece with a wide smile.
“I’m glad I could help you, Alpha,” the head omega said with a small smile, glancing at my lamb sandwich. “I’m sure they’ll love it. It’s delicious for someone making it for the first time.”
I rubbed my neck with a shy smile. “Yeah, I hope so.” I felt nervousness wash over me. “At least this sandwich is still edible.”
“They’ll know how much effort you put in, Alpha.” The head omega was good at saying things that were pleasant to hear for me, who was currently feeling insecure.
I put the three containers of food into my tote bag. An enthusiastic smile spread across my face, pushing away any negative feelings that had settled in my heart.
I got ready to head to Liam’s kindergarten. Celeste knew I had made the lamb sandwiches for her and her kids, and I asked her to give me an honest opinion.
Celeste and Levi only dropped Liam off; they didn't wait for him to finish school to go home together.
I left the house two hours before Liam got home. Having been to the Rogue Clan many times, I knew how long it would take me to get to Liam's kindergarten.
An hour sitting in the rogue clan border office was a dull affair. If I were an Alpha werewolf who liked to attack rogue groups, I would have faced two or three hours of questioning.
I have my ancestors and myself to thank. If we had been interested in attacking rogue groups, I wouldn't have been able to see Liam as I pleased without being suspected.
"Thank you, Paulo." I exited the rogue room.
Paulo is the leader of the rogue clan's security department. Therefore, all this time, I have been freely entering and leaving the rogue's territory because he guaranteed that I would not do anything bad.
Paulo's brother-in-law and his car were waiting in front of the border office. He was taking me to Liam's kindergarten. He would wait for me until I left the area.
"Hey, you must be Uncle Liam?" I approached a man sitting in his folding chair under a tree next to the school. He was wearing a light brown t-shirt, black jeans, and sunglasses. He was built and tall, like a warrior.
"That's right." The man stood up and extended his hand to me. "I'm David." He smiled formally at me. I was amazed that his scent was so similar to a werewolf's.
“Hi, David.” I shook his hand firmly and looked at him sharply, even though we both wore glasses. “You know who I am.”
“Yes, you can trust me.” David nodded. I wondered how he could have a werewolf-scented perfume. I’d never heard of it.
We waited for Liam under the tree. David brought two folding chairs. We didn’t say anything; I leaned back with my arms folded, my gaze fixed on Liam’s school.
We stood up as the school bell rang, and moments later, the children poured out, laughing and full of energy.
I smiled as I watched Liam walk toward us. He seemed hesitant to stand in front of me as David moved away from us. This was the first time we’d met without Celeste and Levi.
“Hi.”
“Hi.” Liam smiled nervously, his eyes darting away a few times.
“How was school?” I invited him to sit next to me.
He held onto his backpack strap tightly, making himself meet my eyes. I knew telling him to relax would only make him more tense.
“I’m learning to read,” Liam said with a slight smile. “It’s fun and challenging.” He glanced away for a moment.
“Mom taught me to read before, and I think I’ll be able to read soon.” Liam smiled whenever he talked about his mother.
I could see a glimpse of sadness in his eyes. He just needed to get used to this new situation; he only didn't see his mother and his half-brother at school.
“That’s good.” I smiled at him. “So by the time you start elementary school, you’ll be able to read and memorize numbers.”
"Yes." Liam nodded.
"What books are you reading? Or do you already know what you'll like?" I asked.
"Right now, I like reading books about animals." Liam stared at the frog that passed in front of us.
“Did you know frogs live both in water and on land?” I followed him, watching where the frog went.
"Yeah, I know."
"Have you ever eaten frogs? Their meat is delicious."
"I don't like frog meat." Liam shook his head.
We talked for a few minutes. Slowly, without Liam realizing it, he loosened his grip on his backpack straps and rested his hands on his thighs.
“I made those lamb sandwiches for you three.” I handed Liam the tote bag as he was about to get into his car.
Liam blinked, looking like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Thank you.”
“See you later.” I waved. Liam nodded as he closed the door.
I watched his car drive away. I felt relieved and happy to have talked with him. It had been a beautiful afternoon.
The car that picked me up had arrived, but I didn't go straight back to my pack; I had to go somewhere first.
Paulo's brother-in-law drove calmly and at a moderate speed. He didn't think I was a bad guy from the start. I'll keep his and Paulo's trust.
The coffee shop was where I met with Alpha Matteo of the Black Sea Pack and Alpha Giovano of the White Forest Group.
The Alpha werewolf and Alpha rogue were waiting for me in the corner of the room, away from everyone. It was a good spot for me, who didn't want anyone to see us.
“Hi, Alpha Eiden.” Alpha Matteo stood up with a big smile. He shook my hand and hugged me, patting me on the back. He was thrilled that I had agreed to the business proposal he had been offering me for a long time.
I shook hands with Alpha Giovano, and we introduced ourselves.
“I knew this day would come.” Alpha Matteo patted the chair next to him. “You won’t refuse my offer. You just need some time to think about it.”
“Yeah, thanks for waiting for me,” I said. He didn’t need to know why I had finally invested in his company.
We stopped small talk after I ordered a hot coffee with milk.
Alpha Giovano went into detail about his business with Alpha Matteo, which had been running for a year. I stood by my decision, even though I’d have to wait three years for the dividends.
Alpha Matteo and Alpha Giovano smiled brightly after I signed the document, promising to send the investment money today.
“Why are you wearing scent-concealing perfume, Alpha Eiden?” Alpha Matteo leaned closer to me to make sure he couldn’t smell my scent. “You don’t need to wear a jacket, hat, or mask, either.”
“You don’t need to hide yourself, Alpha Eiden,” said Alpha Giavano. “You’re not a werewolf Alpha who likes to attack rogues.”
“It’s okay. I’m comfortable like this.” I took a sip of my still-warm coffee with milk.
I already had a reason to go to the rogue clan. This would keep my two pack enemies from suspecting anything, but I couldn't stop thinking about how to keep Alpha Jackson from wanting to dig deeper into Celeste, Liam, and Levi.
