Chapter 35
Alpha Calle
"Alpha Calle, what do we have to discuss that I need to cancel the training for the recruits?" His face held a confused expression as he frowned. "Another life and death matter, is it?"
I nodded and said, "You know Suzette breached the laws, and the one who does it deserves serious punishment." Her name on my tongue seemed off, and we shared a glance, recalling the nights we spent with her.
"Yes. Yes, Alpha," he stammered, taking a deep breath.
"She will be charged with imprisonment." I kept an eye on his hardened expression, but he was very good at hiding it due to his years of practice never letting emotions control us.
"That is according to the rule book of the allied packs. So your decision is fair, "Beta Degen replied, but his voice betrayed him. I could feel his sadness and anger at her. She was his destined mate, and the mate bond was strong. But his Beta loyalty was stronger than anything else. I was confident that he wouldn’t reject any of my orders.
"I’m glad we agreed on this matter," I said, giving him a small smile. "Well, she will be arrested today without any delay of any sort, and I want you to lead the task."
"I understand," he agreed, shifting his gaze to the window and taking a deep breath while pressing his back against the chair.
"Degen, look at me."
He lifted his head and made his best eye contact, his mouth set into a straight line devoid of any expression. "Is there anything else you want me to do after arresting Suzette?"
"No." I shook my head. "After you accompany her to the cell, I will permit you to take a vacation in the South."
His brows lifted, gazing at me in disbelief. "Alpha Calle, that’s very generous of you. But–"
"Look, I know it’s difficult for you. It would be hard for any man in this world. But you know that she committed a legal sin in our pack."
"Alpha Calle, you don’t need to explain anything to me. I know very well how cunning that woman is. If she had ever respected our bond, then she shouldn't have arranged that with us in the first place." He smiled sadly. "It’s just my wolf who is mourning over her. I have moved on, though."
"That’s why I am proud of you. You aren't easily weakened by that silly mate bond thing.
He shrugged off his shoulders. "I'm not bothered if I stay single for quite a while since you still don't have a mate either."
I patted him on the shoulder. "Have a vacation. Unwind somewhere else after the task. Who knows, perhaps the Moon Goddess will bestow upon you a second chance mate who is far better than that witch."
"I'm not sure I deserve that." Beta Degen laughed, throwing his head backward. "Anyway, I’ll go ahead. I bet this is going to be a long day." He bowed his head and took his leave.
This would be tough for him for a while, but I was sure he would be better off without that witch. She could never be trusted again with anything.
Regarding the other real reason for Suzette's punishment, I wasn’t ready to tell Beta Degen that the witch was getting punished because she hurt my Luna. He was still unaware that I already had a mate, for now. However, I knew now was not the right time to disclose Daphne’s identity.
I checked some files about the number of pups turning eighteen this year. Two of the names caught my attention—they were Kurt and Kyla Copper. I was glad that the female among the fraternal twins was still a minor when she got into trouble with Daphne. Or else, I had no choice but to put her in the dungeons along with Suzette, no matter how good or bad she had been in the past. Rules were rules, and no one was above them.
Just as I was writing down the rest of the pups, someone knocked lightly on the door. I closed the file and got a whiff of the person’s light scent.
"Come in, Miss Amelia," I said, waiting for her with a pleasant smile.
"Good morning, Alpha Calle." Miss Amelia greeted me. But I could smell her anxiety in her aura. She carefully looked around us and sat on the chair next to me.
"What’s bothering you, Miss Amelia? You appear tense and concerned about something."
"I had a vision, Alpha Calle. Lennon had been asking for Daphne 's information at the previous school. He called them up for her records and where they had been transferred to. He seems very diligent in finding her whereabouts."
I smiled with a calm expression on my face. Being a white witch, Miss Amelia occasionally had visions about the rivals and their new tactics. She would often tell me if anything worried her. It was the reason I accepted her—along with her niece and nephew Kurt and Kyla—into the pack even if she once belonged to the enemy pack."
"You don’t have to be so worried about it, Miss Amelia. I knew that he would do anything to get information about her. But I already made the school authorities sign a non-disclosure agreement on grounds of Daphne’s safety. They will not tell him anything about her," I assured her.
But instead of relief, her expression carried the same doubts on her face.
"Alpha. The thing is that Lennon had stooped so low that he killed his Beta’s wife, who was carrying his child. He sacrificed his own blood to the seer so that he could get information about Daphne. The seer told him that Daphne is with him. Lennon knows where she is staying. He will come to get her back."
"What the hell?" An irritating heat fueled the rage in my veins. I wasn’t sure if it was because he was looking for my mate or the way he had arrived with the knowledge of Daphne’s location.
‘No doubt. That jerk Lennon is a total lunatic,’ Dark growled in the back of my head. ‘If my understanding is correct, he did f*ck his Beta’s wife since he was betrayed by his sl*t mate.’
'And he conceived Beta Yvette only to sacrifice her to the seer. "All of those crimes were committed because he wants Daphne," I told Dark as Miss Amelia looked at me.
‘I’m not going to give up Daphne or share her with him. I would rather fight for our pack than let him touch our mate.’ Dark seethed.
This Lennon thing had been too much of a headache for me. He won’t let go of Daphne so easily and will surely do something out of nowhere. Did he want Daphne because she was his mate, or did he only want the power behind her identity?
I tapped the table, thinking deeply about a way to stop him from reaching my mate.
"I should leave, Alpha. Kurt and Kyla will be in the chamber soon." Miss Amelia was the aunt of both twins, so it was her responsibility to take care of them.
"Thank you for the warning, Miss Amelia ."
After she left, I paced around the room with my hands folded behind my back. The fear of losing my mate made me worry like hell, and I grew impatient at not having her with me right now.
"Go and check on her," Dark growled.
I immediately went out of the mansion and used my car to go straight to Central Groove. I knew it was her time for community service, so after arriving on campus thirty minutes later, I didn’t bother to pull over meters away from the gates. A couple of minutes later, I found myself entering the cafeteria. When my nose caught her sweet scent, my heart fluttered at once.
Even though I didn't use my extra sensitivity to scents, I easily spotted her because the tables were already empty, except for the one near the counter.
‘She’s not alone,’ Dark said. ‘Wait, those are Amelia ’s pups, aren’t they?’
"Yes," I gritted.
The possessiveness in me increased to dangerous levels when I noticed Kurt Copper flirting with my mate subtly. He offered her food and wouldn’t leave her side for a moment. Everybody knew he was crushing so badly on her. The sight of someone touching my mate made me go crazy.
