Chapter 5 John.
Chapter 5 John.
Bella’s pov.
The fact I didn’t feel the pain of his betrayal is beyond me. Did he poison me? How else would I not know?
The pain of the mate bond betrayal is absolutely excruciating. Like no other pain, if my mate was cheating on me I should’ve known.
Now that I’m thinking clearer I realize how odd that is.
‘Tundra… did he poison us?’ I whispered to my wolf, curious to hear her answer.
‘ I don’t know, Bell. My memory is hazy lately…’ she whispered back, curling into herself slightly, feeling exposed and betrayed.
My stomach tightened at her words, making me realize I was right. He was poisoning me with wolfsbane. Making me blind to his betrayal.
“Fuck!” I screamed out, my voice echoing through my office from my frustrations.
I ran my hands through my hair, breathing deeply to try and calm myself down.
How could I be so stupid? Did the love I have for him truly make me so blind?
I started sobbing softly to myself, grieving the life he stole from me. The misery he put me through.
The betrayal and pain I now feel because of his actions.
As I was crying quietly I heard footsteps outside my office door. Looking up with tear filled eyes, I see John standing there.
A sad smile on his face, “I could feel your pain…” he said, voice breaking, “let me help you?”
He said it as more of a question knowing how hard it is for me to accept his help right now.
“I- i don’t know how,” I whispered between sobs, the pain I felt making it impossible to trust him, to trust anyone.
“Let me teach you,” he said softly, walking towards me with his hands up.
I sniffled trying to stop crying, feeling embarrassed right now. My beta felt my pain…
How is that even possible?
As he neared my desk he placed both his hands in mine and pulled me to my feet.
“It’s okay to need someone… to ask for help. You know I care for you right?” He asked, looking me in the eyes, a million different emotions swirling inside his eyes.
I swallowed the lump in my throat, nodding my head at him. Because I do know, he’s always made sure everything I needed was right in front of me. If anything happened he was the one who dealt with it.
This whole time I was so blind I didn’t even realize how much this man has done for me.
“Thank you… for everything. I remember now… everything you’ve done for me, John,” I whispered softly into his ear, pulling him into a hug.
“Don’t mention it,” he said quietly, brushing a stray strand of hair behind my ear, making me blush slightly.
Slight tingles leaving a path from where he touched me, startling me.
“Do you…” I started to say, biting my lip, “do you think you’d help me arrange a pack meeting? Brooke saw Garret. He’s coming… with his mistress and son.”
John’s eyes widened while his mouth opened slightly as if he wanted to say something but didn't know how.
“His son?” He asked quietly, looking at me confused, “he has a son?”
I gulped down the lump in my throat and nodded my head slowly, “yes… a six year old son…”
Rage consumed John as his eyes glowed with the presence of his wolf.
“He… cheated on you and had another child? A child who is older than Megan?” He asked carefully, studying my face.
“Yes,” I breathed out, “he does.”
I felt John’s entire body tense up, he closed his eyes tightly trying to calm the raging storm inside of him.
“I’m… so sorry,” he whispered, pulling me impossibly closer to him.
I let silent tears fall from my eyes as I wrapped my arms around John tightly, needing this right now.
My tears soaked into the shirt he was wearing but John didn’t pull away, if anything, he pulled me closer…
Lifting my head to look at him with glossy eyes, I see he had a look of… longing.
I lifted my head slightly, almost an invitation for him to come closer…
John leaned his head down, brushing his lips against mine softly…
Just as I was about to deepen the kiss, the scent of my mate wafted its way into my office.
I pushed John away from me quickly, as if he burned me. Not wanting to have anything to fuel my mates fire.
A look of hurt and confusion takes over his face until he scents Garret out too.
A look of pure rage takes over now instead, with quick steps he’s just about to swing my office door open when I grab him, pulling him back and locking the office door.
“How-,” he went to ask but I cut him off.
“Shh! I- I’m not ready to see him yet… I don’t want them in here! I- I need to get to Megan,” I stuttered out, waiting for his scent to disappear so I could make my way to my daughter.
“Do you want me to come with you?” He asked, a softer look on his face now.
I smiled at him while nodding my head, “yes… but be quiet, I don’t want them to hear us.”
John put his hands up in mock surrender and started to follow me out.
Just as I thought we’d make it without being seen, my name was screamed out from behind us.
“Bella!” The enraged voice of my mate screamed, “what the hell do you think you’re doing?”
My body stiffened while my hands clenched into fists.
“What the hell am I doing?” I whispered deadly calm, turning around to look at my mate, “more like, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Garett started to laugh, a crazed laugh that made me bite the inside of my cheek to keep calm.
“This is my pack! What do you mean, what the hell am I doing? I’m here, in my own pack, with my new Luna and heir,” he said, wrapping his one arm around Rose while he placed his other hand on the small boy's shoulder… who doesn’t even look like Garett.
“Get. Out,” I said through clenched teeth.
My emotions getting the best of me.
Garett’s face morphed into pure rage, dropping his arm from Rose and storming towards me.
He went to put his hand around my throat but Tundra reacted, grabbing his hand and breaking his three fingers.
“arghh!” Garret screamed while popping his fingers back into place, “you little bitch!”
He raised his hand, about to punch me when John stepped in front of me, catching his hand with ease.
“Don’t you ever put hands on her… you might not like what I do next.”
