Chapter 117
Chapter 117
Kathy couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that if anyone discovered Melody’s true heritage—half-werewolf and half-vampire—it would create serious problems, especially now that Noah was gone. The uncertainty about Melody’s real father lingered in everyone’s mind. It could have been Noah, or perhaps some unknown vampire who’d been reckless enough to be with Maria.
But Maria remains the only person who knows the truth, if she actually does. The only way to get answers is to confront Maria directly, though Kathy hesitated; Maria would likely be furious, considering Kathy had taken her power. The risk of raising the subject felt almost as dangerous as the secret itself.
Suddenly, a knock echoed through the house, causing everyone to pause. Grace got up from her spot and walked toward the door, curious about who else might be arriving. When she opened it, Kathy saw that it was her uncles and grandfather, their faces lit up with warm smiles. Kathy’s heart soared; she gently placed Melody on the floor beside her brothers, then hurried over to greet her grandfather with an embrace.
“GRANDPA! I miss you, where have you been?” Kathy exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she hugged him tightly. The room seemed brighter for a moment, the tension melting as her grandfather returned the embrace, chuckling softly.
“I was busy with my kingdom, anyway, how have you been?” her grandfather replied, his voice carrying both pride and concern. Kathy pulled back slightly, searching his face for any sign of trouble, but all she saw was warmth and affection.
“Alright, I've been okay. Come in—I’ll make tea for everyone.” Kathy said, her voice gentle but inviting as she motioned her family inside. Her grandfather and uncles exchanged grateful glances, clearly relieved to be welcomed so warmly.
As everyone came in, Kathy went into the kitchen to make tea for the whole family. Melody crawled toward Uncle Leon, who happily picked her up from the floor, grinning as she giggled in his arms. Her brothers were busy playing with their toys, while Jaxson and Chester joined in, entertaining baby Leon and Kai with gentle laughter and silly faces. The house filled with warmth and joyful chatter, the earlier tension fading as family gathered and settled comfortably together.
Kathy soon returned from the kitchen, carrying a tray stacked with cookies for the babies and steaming cups of tea for everyone else. Carefully balancing the tray, she made her way to the living room and set it down on the table, smiling as familiar faces gathered around. She poured each adult a cup of hot tea, the aroma filling the air, then handed the babies their cookies, prompting delighted giggles as they munched away.
While the adults sipped their tea and chatted, Seth quietly used his power to send the test into the lab he had built with his team, ensuring that the results would be analyzed safely and efficiently. The gentle hum of conversation and laughter filled the house, blending with the comfort of family and the promise of answers yet to come.
"Kathy, I notice that you do not offer a warm embrace when I visit."
“Dad, if you was away and I haven’t see you then I would give you that embrace,” said Kathy, grinning playfully as she handed him a cup of tea. The family exchanged amused smiles, the lighthearted banter adding to the warmth already filling the room.
“Wait, watch it—I told you before, I am not old, plus your mother doesn’t think so,” her father retorted with a mock glare, a playful tone softening his words and drawing a few chuckles from the family.
“You and my mother is grown adult. Anyways we have a big problem,” Kathy replied, her playful tone fading as a hint of seriousness crept into her voice. The room quieted, all eyes turning toward her, sensing the shift in atmosphere and waiting for her to explain further. There is a possible that Melody might be half-vampire.
“That is impossible, because if Maria was pregnant by Noah so you are telling Maria slept with vampire. I don’t believe that can’t happen,”
Kathy paused, closing her eyes for a moment as she gathered her thoughts. She couldn’t help but think that her uncles never really paid much attention to how the human body worked. With a quiet resolve, she prepared herself to give them a quick lesson—one she hoped would clear up their confusion and finally set the record straight.
"Uncles, it can happen when a woman has sex with both men at the same time—it’s rare, but it happens," Kathy began, her tone patient but firm. "If she was carrying twins and slept with both men, the babies could actually have two different fathers. It's called superfecundation, and though unusual, it’s medically possible."
“You are saying that Maria might have slept with a vampire and Melody might have that gene. Did you do the blood test to find out if it’s true?” one of the uncles asked, his eyes wide with concern as he leaned forward in his seat. The room quieted, everyone waiting for Kathy's response, the weight of the question lingering in the air.
“My father took Melody’s blood before you came and sent it off to his lab, so we should have the results soon. For now, it’s best if we keep this a secret until I get an answer from Maria,” Kathy replied quietly, her eyes scanning the faces around her for understanding. She hoped everyone would respect the need for discretion, given how sensitive the situation was.
“Maria is not going to give you the right answer, you know that,”
“I know, she will have to answer or take it to the grave,” Kathy replied, her voice steady but tempered with resignation. She glanced around the room, understanding the weight of secrets and the strength it takes to finally reveal the truth.
