Chapter 46 Chapter 46
Chapter 46 Chapter 46
Martha's POV
A wave of relief crashed down on me as Mr. Weston inquired, "Where did you expect me to hire a werewolf bodyguard from? We are not in the pack." He smiled teasingly as I unfastened my seatbelt to get out of his car.
"I don't know. I just want to be sure. Are all werewolves kind people?" I asked him innocently, my eyes meeting his gaze.
He frowned. "Don't be gullible, Martha. Not everyone is kind, whether werewolf or human. Though you were lucky to meet me. There are rogue werewolves who were banished from our pack, and those who did something heinous and got locked away in the dungeon."
Sweat broke out on my forehead.
"Alright, sir. I will get to meet the bodyguard by tomorrow. Thank you for your kind help," I said, my tone laced with gratitude when I met his intense gaze. His dark eyes glowed, making me aware of his werewolf trait.
"I am glad that I could help you," he replied with a grin.
Getting out of Mr. Weston's car, I stilled as the cold wind greeted me. My arms wrapped over my chest, shielding myself from the cold winter, and I moved ahead to the frontage.
When we arrived at the front door, Mr. Weston walked along with me and unlocked the door. As we entered the living room, I was taken aback to see Dr. Tina in the living room. She donned a light brown dress and black shoes. She stood smiling as she welcomed us, "Welcome, Jasper. Welcome, Martha."
"Tina, why are you here?" Mr. Weston asked. His voice was cold as he strode over to meet Tina. He grasped her arms, looking at her face coldly.
Dr. Tina smiled despite the tense atmosphere in the room. "Why cannot I be here? You gave me your spare key, remember? And I wanted to show you how lovely the brown dress you bought for me appeared."
Mr. Weston scowled as he let go of Tina's arms like they burned him. His face darkened but softened when he met my gaze on me. His throat tightened as he lost words to reply to Tina. He looked over at me, and before he could speak, Tina excitedly chirped, "Welcome, Martha. How are you doing?"
Looking at her excited face and the lovely brown dress that she wore, I realized maybe Mr. Weston had gone shopping for her and for me at the same time, as I held the package he gave to me in one hand and my handbag in the other.
"My day was fine, Doctor."
"Oh. Just call me Tina," she replied with a smile, and I nodded.
"Do you live here now?" She asked, her gaze suspicious. Her large black eyes locked on mine.
"Um, for the meantime," I replied calmly. Mr. Weston's jaw tightened. He did not like the fact that Tina was bombarding me with questions.
"I do not live here. I just wanted to surprise Jasper. If I had any idea that he was coming with you, I wouldn't have come by," she said, guilty.
"It's fine. I hold no grudges against you. After all, you and Mr. Weston are good friends."
Mr. Weston frowned when he heard me say that. But Tina giggled.
"Thank you, Martha. How is your health now? I hope that you are not sick. Would you still like to take the pills?" She asked, her tone friendly.
When I recalled how I had almost bled to death, I shook my head and replied with a steady tone. "No. I am fine. I believe the other pills had washed off the man's sperm."
Mr. Weston's expression darkened, and his deep voice interrupted us as he said, "That's enough, Tina. Allow Martha to rest. She has a job to handle by tomorrow, and she will need a lot of her energy to take over her father's company. Good night, Martha. You should go to your room and rest. By tomorrow I will introduce you to the bodyguard."
"Alright. Good night," I said, turning away to the guest room. I knew that Mr. Weston didn't like Dr. Tina conversing with me. They were werewolves and I was human.
I moved to the guest room that Mr. Weston had offered to me. Once I swung the door to unlock it, I stepped into the room. And I was greeted by my sweet citrus scent. The room smelled alive, and I moved to set my bags down and also to prepare for my night bath.
I could hear Mr. Weston and Dr. Tina's voices booming in the living room.
"Jasper, I don't want to go home tonight. I want to stay here too. Why do you trust that human girl so much? She worked for you, so you should be careful about her objective."
"Enough, Tina. I trust Martha, and that's why I am helping her. You should stay away from her," Mr. Weston warned, and I trembled. Why were they quarreling because of me?
I had no one to ask, and so I moved into the bathroom to have my bath. Due to the harsh winter weather, the water was chilling, and so I turned on the hot shower and had a steamy night bath.
After my bath, I got out of the bathroom and entered the room to dress up, but I heard a gentle knock on the door.
I stilled and moved over to the door to discover who was there.
"Who is there?" I asked softly, my ear pressed against the door to find out.
"It's me, Dr. Tina," she replied, and I swallowed hard, wondering why she was here.
My conversations with Mr. Weston in his car crossed my mind as he reminded me that not all werewolves are good people.
"Is everything alright, Dr. Tina?" I asked her calmly when I pulled the door open and met her gaze. Her eyes were red, and she sobbed softly.
"Jasper is mad at me because of you."
"What? How?" I asked her confusedly.
"He is sending me away at this time of the night. Is it fair? He doesn't like me to visit him. Yet, he knows how much I want to be with him."
My throat tightened as I looked at Dr. Tina's face with pity.
"I am sorry about that. I already explained to Mr. Weston that I do not love him as much as I see you care for him. He is my boss and I respect him. But trust me. We are not what you think." I tried to act calm when I saw Tina's eyes glow.
Why do their eyes glow like that? I couldn't stay calm, and I asked her, "Why do your eyes glow like a bulb?"
Tina chuckled and said, "It's a sign of admiration or my wolf's reaction. I really appreciate your kind help, Martha. I promise that you won't regret being my first human friend, too."
She held my right hand firmly, and I gulped hard.
"Alright. You should get some sleep. I want to dress up and sleep. Good night."
Tina smiled and let go of my hand, and I gently closed the door. My heart pounded at the thought of being friends with a female werewolf.
Wouldn't she attack me one day? I breathed out heavily and moved to the bed to wear my white night dress.
After wearing it, I perched on the bed and picked up my phone. I researched about werewolves, asking if they were real. It was all fantasy and not real. Am I dreaming? Am I hallucinating? My head throbbed with a pounding headache. So, I put the phone aside and drifted off to sleep.
