Chapter 39 Chapter 39
Chapter 39 Chapter 39
JASPER'S POV:
A man in a black suit emerged and strode into the lobby to meet us.
"What's going on, Agnes? Who are they searching for?" He asked before the lady narrated to him.
"The lady who screamed three nights ago, like she was getting killed."
The manager's face turned livid, before he looked at us and cleared his throat.
"We do not have any information about her. What happened? Did she steal from your boss? She appeared so innocent that I do not want to think of her as a thief," he said.
"No. She didn't steal. I just want to see her for other reasons and to be sure that she is not pregnant by my boss," Steven explained, looking at the manager's face as he approached us.
A wave of relief crashed over the manager's features, and he assured my brother. "You do not have to worry about that. She should have taken care of it. If that's why you are here, we offered free condoms, and I am surprised your boss didn't use one. It's risky having unprotected sex with a stranger."
"I know. So is there no way to find this lady?" Steven inquired, but the manager shook his head.
"No way. We didn't keep any CCTV footage of that night. The power circuit got damaged that night."
Steven sighed and turned to leave. "It's fine. I will be taking my leave now. Thanks for your help."
Once we stepped out of the hotel, I asked my brother, "What do you plan to do now?"
"I don't know. I will send a message to Alpha Andrew that I cannot find the girl. What else? The city is very big, and I tried to stop him that night, but he declined. Excuse me." Steven stepped away from me and phoned Alpha Andrew directly.
"Hello, Alpha. It's me calling you," Steven said once Alpha Andrew answered his call.
"I am aware. Did you find the girl?" He asked curiously.
"No, Alpha. There is no information about her. The manager said there was a power circuit failure that night, and he didn't have any footage recorded either," he explained.
"Hmm," Alpha Andrew sighed. "It's fine. Come back to the pack. I already accepted to pick a mate."
"Really?" My brother's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets with excitement.
"Who did you choose, Alpha?" He asked, eager to know. The line fell silent, and I saw a lady stride out of the hotel. Her eyes were on me as she wore a short green dress that accentuated her figure. She then walked up to meet me. Just as I heard Alpha Andrew reply to Steven, "I don't like Zoey. So I accepted to marry Alpha Bennett's daughter, Hannah Bennett. So get back to the pack."
"Alright, Alpha. I will be back soon." The call ended, and Steven bubbled with excitement.
"Brother, I guess I will be heading back to the docks. I would have loved to meet your human girlfriend. But I cannot stay any longer. The sooner I ship Alpha Andrew off with Alpha Bennett's daughter, the sooner my chances of getting mated with Zoey are."
My brother jumped up with excitement, and I shook my head before we shifted our gaze to the lady who was watching us with interest.
"What do you want?" I asked the lady in green when my gaze locked on hers.
"I am sorry to bother you, sir. But I do like you. I thought you came here to spend your time with one of us," she spoke confidently as she gazed at me with hungry eyes.
"No. We are not. We are already leaving," I replied, turning away from her as I didn't want to waste my time with Steven.
She stood there staring at us as my brother and I strode to my car.
"Why didn't you give her a chance?" Steven asked me, chuckling, but I didn't say a word.
I fastened my seatbelt, and he did the same.
"So I am taking you back to the port to find your way back to the pack," I said coldly as my brother fastened his seatbelt. Though I was already relieved that Alpha Andrew had accepted to marry another woman—even though she was not his mate. That was better to keep him away from Martha.
"Yeah. But why is your mood ruined? You are annoyed. After I mentioned to you that Alpha Andrew is searching for the human he mated with," my brother pointed out as he continued studying me while I ignited my car and drove out of the hotel parking space.
My hands firmly gripped the steering wheel as I navigated at a steady pace.
"Why should I be annoyed? I am not angry. I have my own worries, and it has nothing to do with Alpha Andrew. It's a relief that he is finally accepting to marry. After all, he isn't getting any younger," I said, knowing that Martha wasn't an option either.
"You're right. So what's annoying you and your wolf?" Steven pressed.
"Nothing," I sighed. "I only wish that I could have a peaceful life here with my human choice. But about Alpha Andrew, I am not happy that he slept with a human without protection. But like the receptionist advised, let's believe that she has taken care of it."
"Alright. Let's hope so too." My brother replied before he gazed out the window.
"That reminds me. Stop me at the mall. I want to shop for shoes and some dresses for Zoey. I believe that will give me a better chance ahead since she is not going to be Alpha Andrew's choice." My brother appeared excited, and I shook my head.
"And you think Zoey will agree to marry you? She will be hurt about Alpha Andrew's rejection. Do not let her take it out on you," I advised him. Though he frowned, he insisted, "I still want to get a special gift for Zoey."
"Alright." I drove ahead to a women's clothing store and parked. When we arrived, I thought about joining Steven for shopping as I wanted to get a present for Martha too.
When Steven saw me climbing out of my car, his eyes widened in surprise, and he asked, "Where are you heading to?"
"To get a present for my girlfriend too."
My brother shook his head. "I would have loved to meet the lady who has captured my brother's heart, but I don't have much time to spend."
"Don't worry. You will get to meet her later," I assured him, and he said, "I can just ask for her picture. Don't you have any? Let me see what she looks like."
"No. She is not online," I lied, but the words tightened in my throat.
Steven shook his head and laughed. "I know a lie when I hear one. Do not forget that I am Alpha Andrew's beta for a reason. I understand that you do not want me to meet your human chosen mate. But I hope that you can trust this human. Mind you, if she leaks our pack's secret or divulges the truth of our existence to anyone, the priestess will be forced to cut you off from the pack and your wolf will be gone."
I swallowed hard. "I trust her. She will not betray me."
"Alright. I believe that before my next return, you both will have taken your relationship to the next level. Let's go in and shop."
I sighed and accompanied my brother into the clothing store, and we selected some dresses and shoes for our love interests.
