Chapter 30 Chapter 30
ELENA'S POV:
"That bìtch! I cannot believe she got my mother arrested," I yelled as I stood outside the police station building with Mark.
"Mark, we have to come up with a solution. How do we get my mother out?" I asked him, just as Barrister Williams walked up to meet us. He wore a white top and black trousers, a middle-aged man and my father’s lawyer.
"Good evening, Ms. Roger," Barrister Williams said as he approached.
"Welcome, Barrister. What will we do? The police refuse to grant my mother bail, and they promise to investigate this. My mother is innocent. Martha only wants to seize everything our father left behind," I said, choosing my words carefully as I could see some people staring at us.
"You have to do everything possible to ensure your mother isn’t charged in court for child abuse. Martha is headstrong about getting revenge against your mother. Why did you both treat her so unfairly? She could have married Mark peacefully without knowing she had signed the company over to you both. Now that she has learned the truth, I’m afraid to say Martha might come after you," Barrister Williams said, and my mood plummeted.
"Barrister, my mother paid you to help her. You are not planning to withdraw and take Martha’s side, are you?" I asked him, glaring.
"No. I am only helping you understand the severity of the case. I will stand by your mother and do everything within my capacity to defend her. Just ensure that you don’t allow Martha to find any evidence to use against your mother," Barrister Williams stated firmly, and I nodded.
"I will do that."
I turned to Mark, feeling sick standing in front of the police station. They wouldn’t even allow me to see my mother. She was treated like a criminal and locked up because of Martha, and I cannot allow this to slide.
My fists clenched as I ordered Mark, "Let’s go, babe. Martha will not win this time. She never does, and she won’t."
Mark sighed and hopped into the car with me.
"Are you sure about this, babe? I’m sorry. Maybe if I had listened to your mother and not locked Martha in her room, she wouldn’t have gotten the help she has now," Mark said regretfully as he sat in the driver’s seat of his car.
Looking at Mark, I gently placed my hand on him and told him, "Don’t worry. You have me, and we will not allow Martha to win."
"What if she finds evidence?" Mark asked worriedly.
"Your dad…"
My gaze darkened, and I assured him, "Dad was buried and no autopsy was carried out. So Martha will never know. She just hates us and wants to ruin us."
"Alright. But I am sorry," Mark said once more. I pulled close to him and placed a warm kiss on his cheek.
"Let’s go."
Once Mark started the car, he drove out of the police station and headed toward my father’s house.
My eyes darkened as I thought of how to discreetly deal with Martha.
"Babe, do you think that man is really into my sister?" I asked Mark, watching the road as the heavy rainfall made it difficult for him to drive fast.
"I don’t know. What man would want a skinny woman like your sister? He’s her boss, so I think he’s only helping her," Mark replied, but his tone was not confident.
"I saw the way the man looked at Martha when he took her away. One would think she is sleeping with her boss," I murmured.
Mark’s fists clenched on the steering wheel as he drove toward my father’s house.
"Don’t worry. The man cannot date your sister. He’s just helping her. Though Martha has a pretty face, she’s too dry down there."
My gaze narrowed at Mark. "Why did you sleep with Martha before? You shouldn’t have touched her intimately when you know you don’t love her," I responded, my voice thick with jealousy.
"I’m sorry, babe. I was just playing along. If I didn’t do that, Martha would have found out earlier that I never loved her."
I crossed my arms over my chest and looked away from Mark.
"So you took her virginity. That didn’t count to you, right?" I asked him, irritated that he had slept with her first.
"Babe, let’s not go into that," Mark brushed the topic off.
Of course, he said he disliked Martha, but ever since he heard Martha slept with another man, Mark had been furious. He glared at her, and he’s not happy.
Shouldn’t Mark be happy that he is with me? Why would he claim he doesn’t have feelings for my sister and yet be annoyed to know someone else slept with her?
I gazed out of the car window as the atmosphere grew tense.
Mark kept driving the car steadily and in silence until we arrived.
Getting out of the car, I went to pull the gate open for Mark to drive in. He drove in and parked, and we went into the house together.
"Babe, I’ll go back home. I’d love to stay with you, but I need to go back and let my parents know how things went," Mark said as we stepped into the living room.
"No, babe. You cannot leave me alone in this big house. I’m scared," I said, rushing to hold Mark’s hands as he turned to leave.
"Babe, you don’t have to be scared. Don’t worry. Tomorrow, I’ll get a new security guard for you, alright?" Mark said, wanting to leave me in the big house. But I shook my head.
"Please, babe, take me along. My mother isn’t here to protect me. What if Martha shows up and hurts me? I cannot stay here alone," I begged, holding Mark’s hand firmly as I didn’t want to stay back.
"Fine. Let’s go," Mark agreed, and he led me out of the house.
We got into his car, and he drove off to his father’s house.
