Chapter 19
Derek threw the glass of brandy on his desk at the wall, loving the sound it made as it smashed against the wall. What a lucky bastard Adam was! He kept escaping all the traps he had in store for him and now, his wife had also been infected with his dose of danger escape magic. He hissed, boiling with rage, his chest moving up and down with his frustration.
Erica had thought he was trying to hurt Adam because of Adam but she didn't know better. He wanted her hurt because she had dared to reject him when he offered her his heart instead of her getting married to Adam.
He hissed as he scrolled through the news of how Erica got herself arrested while trying to get a thug to rape Veronica and shook his head at how stupid she was for getting herself arrested. It seemed like the blogger had a personal grudge against Erica as the way the story was buttered up, Erica was painted as the devil's boss and no one who read the news would have any choice but to hate her.
He shrugged, unbothered about her dilemma. She should have known better than to attract bloggers to herself as enemies being a model. A notification flashed on the top of his screen and he growled as the headline beamed at him.
It indicated that it was an exclusive interview with the Livingstons and he willed his fingers not to press on the news but he was curious about what the press had to say about Adam and his wife though he knew he might regret his actions minutes later. Fate was getting too much on Adam's side and the partiality was beginning to piss him off. He hoped the news was that Veronica was getting divorced from Adam because his ex tried to hurt her.
He hissed as he read the news and discovered that Veronica was pregnant instead and everyone in the comment section was gushing about what an amazing couple they were and cursing Erica for being a bitter bitch.
He scrolled through the news, carefully reading and almost bit his tongue in shock and he swore out loud as he read where Adam mentioned that he had no idea why Erica would choose to hurt his wife as she had been the one to cheat on him with his best friend.
Derek growled at his phone wishing it was Adam so he could grab him by the neck. Though Adam hadn't mentioned his name, everyone who knew him would know that he was the best friend who was being referred to.
He dumped the phone on the desk, deciding to read no more when he got to the part where Adam gushed about how much of a blessing Veronica was to him and how she came into his life at a time he was down and the world was bleak around him. He scoffed. Adam would make a good poet.
He placed his head on his folder hands and sighed as he mulled over what he had to do. No, he wouldn't let Adam win the game. He had started it and he would finish it. His phone rang and he ignored it, convinced it was definitely one of their friends from Leo's club who had read the articles and would like to confirm that he was the one Adam was referring to as the friend. He snorted, he didn't have any time for gossip. Even the fools would know he was the one Adam was referring to.
His phone rang again and he picked it up with anger, intending to curse at the person. He frowned at seeing that it was an unsaved contact and hissed, swiping at it.
"Hello," he barked into the phone.
"Derek, it's me. It's Erica." Erica's frantic voice stormed out of the phone. He could already picture her in wherever she was, sweating profusely and fidgeting. "I have been arrested by the cops."
"I know." He replied with indifference. "I just finished reading about it." And some other things I never want to read about.
"Come and get me out of here, Derek." She cried.
He snorted. "And get myself involved in your scandal. I am already scandalized as it is by Adam's comment and now I am to come to the station to bail you out where reporters are probably swarming there and then another rumour start flying around of how you are my girlfriend and i snatched you from Adam's hands as he said."
Erica gasped in disbelief. "What? Rumours? But I am your girlfriend, Derek."
He snorted. "What made you believe that I will make someone like you a girlfriend? I never asked you out or promised you anything official. Get over your delusions, Erica. I think you have been taking to much drugs to think better for yourself."
She felt her heart slashing into pieces. "Then what are we?"
Derek shrugged, hoping she could see him to know how unbothered he was. "We just hop in and out of bed."
Her breath came out in a hiss as she struggled to hold her tears in. She wondered why she was hurt when she already knew he was going to be like that. "I have to go."
"Same here." He agreed and disconnected the call.
He cursed as he placed the phone back on the desk. With a shake of his head, he cursed. He didn't need this drama in his life. He needed to think and plan of what next to do.
