Chapter 15
Adam couldn't believe it. The woman who had caught his fancy and made him lose his sense of control to passion was his wife. One of the best sex he had ever had was Veronica. He swallowed, his throat going dry as he remembered he was married to her and he could be with her again as the other night. His body felt uncomfortable as he thought of the night, every steamy details coming to his mind. He yanked at the tie on his neck, pulling it downwards as heat suffused his whole body.
He glanced at the air conditioner, wondering why it was not on and scowled as he realized it was on and working perfectly. Maybe he needed to go to the hospital, he guessed he was coming down with the flu.
Veronica. He smiled. He couldn't have believed the vixen who didn't want to get married to him was the same temptress they had both tore at each other in passion without even asking what each other's name was. They had both been drunk and had started bantering as they sat close to each other at the bar. He had flirted with her, she flirted back and the rest was history as their eyes gazes at each other and their lips did the talking all the way to his room.
He had felt reckless and free and she must have felt the same as she had thrown her head and laughed as he fumbled with the key to his room. He scowled, realizing he hadn't heard her laugh that way. He stared thoughtfully into space, wondering how he could get her to laugh like that again. Free and young. He was grateful to Matthew for bringing them back together. Now, he felt like he got lucky with the deal. He got his business back on its feet and also as a wife one of the beautiful women who had ever enchanted him in both looks and wits.
A form of argument outside broke through his thoughts and he frowned, wondering what it was all about. He could hear Bruce growling and exchanging words with someone. He frowned. He knew that voice. Erica. What was she doing at his office? He stood up from his desk and moved outside.
Bruce hissed. "You can't see him."
Erica hissed back. "You can't stop me from seeing Adam. Adam would want to see me." She says, trying to push past him to the door.
Bruce pulled her skinny form back with a drag of his finger on her cloth. She moved back, choked and glared at him. "What do you think you are doing, Bruce?" She growled.
He snorted. "I should be asking you that. What gives you the guts that Adam would like to see you?"
She shrugged. "We have history."
He nodded. "Of course, you do. A history as a cheat and a betrayer." He smirked at her in a taunting manner. "I guess sleeping with Adam's enemy has robbed you of every form of shame."
She gasped and recoiled at his insult. "How dare you?" She barked at him.
Adam walked out, amused at Bruce's fighting for him. He stared at Erica, noting how thinner she looked and frowned. She looked paler than she usually did, her skin dry and blotched and he knew without a doubt that she had gotten back to drugs. He shook his head at how pathetic she was and praised himself for all the moments he stuck with her and kept her from damaging herself.
He shrugged. She was no longer his concern. It was up to her if she couldn't grow up and fix herself for good without someone always holding her on a leash like a dog.
"It's okay, Bruce." He said. "I will handle this."
Bruce looked at him like he was crazy but he nodded, said nothing and went back to his seat. Adam smiled at him. He was probably thinking he was still in love with her. He shook his head at Bruce to tell him that he was really in control and he had nothing to fear. Erica was nothing to him. He was married and he was soon going to be a father.
Erica cooed as he saw Adam. "Hey, baby." She smiled, running to hug him and pouted when he moved out of her reach.
Bruce snorted at her shamelessness. "Bitch." He spat out.
She turned to look at him, flicked him the bird and turned back to Adam, the smile on her face inviting. She looked at Adam and swooned at how better he looked than the last time she had seen him after his business collapsed. As she stood before him, she remembered the man she had been in love with and how handsome he was.
She tried not to hiss as she remembered why she was at his office. She stared at him and noted the blank stare in his eyes and her courage failed her. She swallowed and licked her lips. She had to do this. Her supply of drugs was finished and Derek wouldn't give her what she wanted unless she did this.
She had agreed because she believed Adam was still in love with her and he had always seemed to care about her but as she stared at him, it was hard for her to tell what was on his mind. Maybe Derek was wrong that he got married to save his business. He could really be in love with his new wife. His eyes didn't even spark any of the familiarity she was used to whenever she was around.
"Why are you here, Erica?"
To seduce you so I can get my drugs. She smiled at him. "Can we go to your office?" She knew Derek could see and hear everything that was going on due to the camera on her. She didn't care where he got it or what he did with the recording as long as he fulfilled his end of the bargain. She suspected that he was going to show Adam's wife the recording if she succeeded but she felt no guilt for what she was about to do to Adam even though she knew he would lose his business, marriage and reputation again if the scandal broke out.
She shrugged. If he could have survived the first loss, he could survive the second one.
He nodded and led the way to his office. He sat in his chair and faced her once they were in and seated. "Why are you here?" His voice was colder than the one he has used outside.
She cringed. "I knew you would be like this."
"You were not expecting me to jump at your feet, were you?"
"I'm sorry, Adam."
He frowned. "For?"
She snorted. "Don't make me more pathetic than I already am. I'm sorry for everything."
"No problem, Erica. You probably did what you have to do because you have no choice." He knew it was the drugs.
She smiled. "I knew you would understand, Adam. This is why I like you. You never judge me."
He nodded, his hands folded before him on the desk. "Now, you have apologized. Can you get going? I have work to do."
She snorted. "Let me make it up to you. Can we get back to how we were?"
He chuckled. "Not even in the next world, Erica."
"Don't be harsh." She pouted.
He raised his left hand, waving it at her and flashed her his wedding band. "Do I have to remind you that I am married?"
She snorted. "Don't pretend like you are in love with her."
He scowled. "That's none of your business. Moreover, you are with Derek and if you know anything about me, you know I don't deal with the woman of another man."
She chuckled. "Does this mean you will take me back if I break up with Derek?"
He shook his head. He had forgotten how cunning she could be. She had a knack of hearing what she wanted to hear at times. "Don't be ridiculous."
She popped open the buttons on her shirt, flashing her boobs at him. She smiled at him as she stood up from the desk, walking towards him, her eyes intent on his eyes. She licked her lips in a seductive manner, her eyes telling him he could have her any way he wanted her.
Adam scoffed, not at all moved by her nudity. He pressed a button under his desk without letting her see him do that. Erica gasped and turned to the door as it burst open and Bruce barged in. She scrambled to button herself up.
Adam pointed at her. "Take her out and toss her out of the building. She must never set foot here again."
Erica gasped. "Adam!"
Bruce smiled, happy at the instruction. He moved towards her, pulled her by the arm, picked her bag on the chair she had sat on and dragged her out of the office, ignoring her screams and threats and walked faster than he usually did, her heels clanging behind him in an uncomfortable manner as she struggled to catch up.
