Chapter 14
"Hey, so nice to see you, girl." Peggy cooed as she saw her niece.
Veronica smiled and hugged her. "You are welcome, Aunt Peggy and this is my husband, Adam." She said, pointing at Adam who stood by her side as they ushered Peggy into their house.
Peggy grinned. "What a handsome dude you have got for yourself, Veronica!" She winked at her.
Adam blushed and muttered his thanks to her. The three of them moved in and talked all night after dinner. Few hours later, Peggy yawned and said she was going to bed. They bade her a good night rest and watched as she made her way to the house.
Veronica had her hands crossed on her laps, wondering what to do with them. Even though they had packed her stuffs into Adam's bedroom as soon as she had heard of her aunt's visit, she couldn't sleep in the same bedroom with him all through those days. And now the day had come that she had to and she was freaking out.
Adam grinned as he glanced at her, knowing what was going through her mind. He cleared his throat to get her attention and smiled at her in a bit to ease her tension even though he was also tense. All through the week after he knew a day would come that they would share a bed, he couldn't stop the thoughts going through his mind and how nervous he was. He had imagined a thousand scenarios of how the day was going to be and the night was eventually here. He was relieved to realize he was not the only one at unease.
An insane urge to hold her hands and soothe her flicked through his mind and he snorted. He doubted she would allow that if he tried it and he didn't want anything to rouse annoyance from her. He was determined to show her aunt that she was the cute husband she thought he was.
She swallowed and turned to him. "It's late already. Let's go to bed."
He nodded and stood up. "Let's do that. We have work tomorrow and it won't do us any good if we both sit here and stare at each other all through the night."
She chuckled. "We might as well go in now and tell aunt Peggy that we are a fake couple if we want to do that. She expects us to be all over each other and would be surprised If she comes out for water in the middle of the night and finds us outside." She sighed. "I know she would be surprised we were not all over each other and would have something to say to that tomorrow." She muttered to herself but he caught it.
He shrugged. "We can do that. Getting all over each other in her presence." He offered.
She grinned at him and stopped, shaking her head. She cleared her throat. "No problem. Just don't get any funny ideas."
He laughed. "I think you are the one I need to warn. I am quite irresistible to women when I act cute. Are you sure your heart can stand strong against this full package?" He grinned, waving at himself all the way down. "I am afraid you might just fall in love with him."
She snorted. "Bring your game on then." Her eyes shone with challenge.
He smiled at her show of indifference. "Let's get to sleep, darling."
She smirked at his flirty tone. "Already trying to be cute? Just don't try to cuddle me."
He nodded. "I also have to warn you. I sleep naked, Veronica."
She gaped at him in horror. She blinked and swallowed. "I am not attracted to you so you can do whatever it is you want."
He laughed. "I wonder why that hurt."
As soon as they got to the bedroom, she took her pajamas and went to the bathroom to change. Her clothes fell from her hands and she gave a loud gasp as she entered the bedroom and saw him naked, having just removed his clothes.
He turned to her and smirked. "I already warned you. You don't expect me to undress in the bathroom when I would eventually come out naked."
She shook her head as she stared at him. She tried not to but she couldn't stop. He frowned, worried of the fear in her eyes. He moved closer to her and she gasped.
He stopped and frowned at her. "I won't hurt you, Vee or take advantage of you if that is what you are worried of." He shook his head at her expression. "Okay, I will dress up if you are not comfortable with me. It will be bothersome but I think I will try."
She croaked, shaking her head. "Not that."
"What is the problem?"
"Your tattoo. I have seen it before." She confessed.
He glanced down at the bird tattooed on his chest and smirked. "I doubt it. This looks like a bird but it is different from a normal tattoo."
She nodded. "It is an eagle with your name scribbled on its wings in tiny fonts."
He gasped as he stared at her. She couldn't have known of the name on the wings if she hadn't been close to him. He hardly wore clothes which showed the tattoo and even if he did, no one could have known of the tattoo at a glimpse. If she knew of it, she had studied his chest to see the name.
"How did you know?"
She shook her head. "I saw the tattoo and remembered seeing something like it on someone's chest. The person also said it was not a normal tattoo just like you said just now and I looked and saw your name like that person." Her hands flew to her mouth as her eyes widened in shock. "Oh my god. It's you."
"Who?" He frowned, wondering what she was talking about.
"Did you have a one night stand with someone recently, Adam? While you were drunk?" Tears threatened to fall from her eyes as she prayed he say yes.
He nodded. "Yes, but I remember nothing of it and the lady was gone before I woke up."
"Know her name?"
He shook his head. "I don't think I remember. The only thing I remember was how hot that night was for me and the tattoo on one of the lady's laps."
Her breath caught in her throat. "What is it?"
He frowned, his hand stroking his chin as he tried to remember. "I think it was.....a butterfly."
She gasped and fell into his arms, crying. "Adam!"
He held her , rubbing his hand down her back as he comforted her. "Veronica, what is the problem?"
She raised her head up from his chest and smirked. "Don't you get it yet?" She slowly raised her cloth up for him to see the butterfly tattoo on her lap. He gasped, his eyes widened and he looked at her. She nodded and smiled at him.
He pulled her to him and crushed her to him, running his hand through her hair. "Veronica, it was you."
"I am glad I found you."
He grinned. "You fell in love with me that night?"
She smacked his shoulder. "Don't be ridiculous. I got pregnant that night."
He gasped. "What?" His eyes travelled to her belly. "That baby is mine?
She nodded. "I didn't have sex with anybody after that one night stand. I was surprised to find myself pregnant." She sighed. "I was reckless that night."
He shook his head and placed his finger on her lips. "Don't say that. We were on fire that night."
She laughed. "Is this you being sweet as you say?"
He grinned. "Is it working?"
She shrugged and he laughed. He pulled her to him, glad she didn't cringe at his touch. His body went on fire as he rounded her waist with his hands, the memory of the one night stand jumping in his brain.
"Let's get to bed." He whispered to her.
A shiver went through her spine and she weakened as she saw the lust in his eyes. She suddenly remembered she was pressed against his naked body and tried to pull back. He grinned and held her firmly to himself, shaking his head to tell her that she was not going anywhere.
"Please," she groaned.
He cocked his head sideways as he looked at her in a teasing manner. "Please, what? Never let you go?" He grinned. "I am never letting you and my baby out of my sight, darling. You can be sure of that."
"I want to sleep."
He nodded. "Agreed. Let's go."
"Don't try to be funny, Adam." She warned.
"Well, I will cuddle you so I take back my earlier promise." He chuckled at the hiss in her eyes. "To keep the baby warm."
She laughed and shook her head at him. "You are unbelievable."
