Chapter 50

I woke up again to my phone ringing. I woke with a sigh. Another day with this phone. It was bright already, the sun was already sipping into the room, and the birds didn’t want to shut up, but I didn’t feel well rested, far from it. Instead, I felt as though I had been hit by a bus a couple times over.

“Hello” I was tired, I wanted to go no contact with every single person.

“Are you okay? We waited for you yesterday and didn’t see you” he sounded antsy

“dad...” I looked for an excuse to give but none came to mind. “I’m sorry, I really wanted to come but a lot happened. Maybe the weekend?”

“sure” he didn’t sound happy about it at all, but I really couldn’t be bothered. Today was the day I start work and I was l sure as wasn’t going to let anyone ruin it or let anyone’s emotion stop me.

“Okay then, I’ll talk to you later” I said moving to quickly end the call.

“Allison, make sure to be there...” he paused as if think about it before he now added, “please”

“Sure” i said ending the call immediately. There seemed to be some sort of urgency in his voice but I really didn’t pay it mind. He was going to be fine.

I ran into the shower quickly doing my routine. I couldn’t help smiling through it as I thought the new prospects of my new job.

It was hell. I had asked Elias for a job at his company but I didn’t specifically think he would give me just any job.

I was assigned to be a cleaner at the hotel branch of his. Not to mention the head cleaner who was in charge of all of us for some reason didn’t seem to like me very much.

She first had commented that the sleeves I wore under my work shirt were not professional and then made a comment on how my roots were not the same colour as the rest of my hair even though she knew quite well that it dye.

“ are you done with this?” she said from behind me, causing me to get startled she seemed to always do this too, always sneaking up on me when she can.

“no” I answered through clenched teeth, I was ready to shave off her head.

“you missed a spot” she said touching the surface I had been cleaning, ruining it’s perfect state. “When you are done. The boss is around, he wants to see the new employee and while you’re there, don’t do anything to embarrass me” she sneered, she dropped the key card on the table before walking out. I watched her walk out of the place I was cleaning, with me letting out a cold tired breath.

I knew every branch had its head that controlled that sector, but I didn’t think they concerned themselves with things such as new staffs especially ones as cleaners.

I nodded either ways.

“you don’t need to take what she does to heart you know, she does it to all of us when we first come. It’s like she’s waiting for us to prove our worth”

II almost jumped to the roof when I heard the voice of the second girl beside me, I had forgotten that I was i deed working with someone.

“sorry” she laughed a bit. “you really must be on edge huh?” I just nodded, it was easier than saying I had forgotten that she was actually beside me. “I’m Patricia”

“Allison “ I gave a formal smile. I know she meant no harm and wanted to be friendly but I couldn’t care at the moment. I had a lot of things swamping my mind.

“you know the boss is really cute, and he is the nicest” she had the look of a hopeless girl in love, it could not be mistaken.

“I can only assume.” I said in a disinterested voice, that didn’t seem to stop her though

“you know one time, he walked into me and asked for my name to apologise better, and the next time he saw me, a week later, he actually remembered my name.” I could see the way she tried to calm the squeal know her voice.

“You know, you should go. Keeping him waiting doesn’t sound like a good idea, I’ll finish up the rest.” I happily took the idea and ran with it. Anything to get me to get off my shift faster, I was going to take it.

I dragged my supplies with me, taking the card from the table. I sighed. My whole sides were aching at this point. I needed a good massage and relaxation.

“good luck!” the girl... I looked at her blankly to remember her name said

“Yeah, sure” I couldn’t get her name for the life of me, so I moved along.

Just my luck, I ran into the head cleaning lady immediately I stepped out of the room. It was as though she was just waiting for me to fuck up. “you clean that place like your life depended on you, because it does. I don’t know why head of branch decided to hire you without consulting me, but you better be worth it.”

Ahh, so that was her issue.

I kept shut. It was wiser than spewing the fact that it was actually the CEO that decided to hire me, not the head of branch

“yes ma’am” i moved to the side, to side step her, but there was no working around this woman, literally!

“And if i hear one word of you stealing anything, I would have you skinned alive. I nodded at her and made my move to go.

She let me go this time around and I quickly moved, before she found another thing wrong with me. I knocked a few times to make sure that no one was in, when no one replied me, I used the card to walk in.

The room looked neat. There really was no need to clean it. I rolled my eyes at the thought that the boss here could be some stuck up man who just wanted to irritate his workers.

I got to cleaning, engrossed in the work and even putting on music on my earpods, blocking out the outside world and giving me the bit of motivation I needed.

I got lost somewhere in the music and then started dancing, my vocals too were not left behind as I was over the roof with singing.

That quickly came to a stop when I was met with a very hot body wrapped in a towel, with water dripping from it.
