Chapter 40
Ben’s p.o.v
Elias looked at me with the same intensity i used to look at him.
“What’s your deal, a few days ago you hated her, you hated her so much that you could not even stand the thought of her being near you, and now, all of a sudden you are cool with her, wanting g to play hero” I blew up in his face, not caring if he was my friend or not.
“Hey guys” The voice I desperately wanted to hear but at the same time was scared to hear since it was going to confirm my fears stood by the other side of the house, at the entrance looking at both of us with confusion but at the same time, She looked happy that we were here.
Memories on how we parted ways just yesterday filled my mind.
“I wasn’t expecting you people, what’s the occasion?” I did not miss how her eyes stayed on me for a whole longer before they moved to Elias.
“Oh no reason, I just wanted to see my favourite cousin since you didn’t get to tell me good bye before leaving.”
She looked at me, waiting for my own explanation. “umm. I came to check if she got home safe.” I could feel the stares they both gave me.
“Well you both get comfortable, I want to change out of my clothes.” She left to her room, leaving me with Elias yet again.
‘your girlfriend is waiting. Give her a call and tell her where you are, it’s the least you can do.” With that, he took a big gulp of his drink, slammed the cup in the counter and left. “I wouldn’t want to drink your fun.” He looked at me with disgust and walked out.
I looked at him as he retreated, trying to figure out what really was his deal.
He finally left, leaving me alone with her.
“so, I was thinking....” she stopped midway, seeing that Elias wasn’t here. “Where is he?” I shrugged. Her hair looked wet, packed in a messy pony. It looked like she just took a quick shower. I unintentionally took in a deep breath.
I could smell her body wash of coconut and aloe Vera. It made my mouth water a bit.
“Guess it was just two of us then” she was at the bar now, pouring herself a glass of red wine? “You care for?” she said offering me the wine. I shook my head no. That would make things worse, leading to where it shouldn’t lead to.
“So, i believe you’re here because of our last conversation. Have you figured out the answer yet?”
“I don’t love you. Get that clear, but for some reason, I can’t seem to let you go” I had affections for her, maybe strong affections for her, but I wouldn’t call it love, that was going extreme.
“Baby” she came around me and touched my chest seductively “I knew you’d come around. Slowly, you’d warm up to me again” I moved out of her hold,
“Emily, I don’t think you’d understand...
ALLISON’S P.O.V
I paced around the room. I was convinced at this point that something bad had happened to Ben and I was ready to call the police when my phone rang again.
“hello?” I answered, without looking at the caller. I knew it would be Ben. He must have seen the missed calls and had called me back. “Ben? Are you okay? Where have you been? I’ve been so worried.” I heard a sigh from the other side of the phone.
“Allison, its me” for the thousandth time today, my heart crushed because of the disappointment.
“Have... have you been able to get to him?”
“i...” there was a long pause at the other side. I pressed the phone to my ears, waiting to hear everything he would say “no, I haven’t heard from him” he sounded like he wanted to say something else. It was evident in the way he said those words.
“do you think he is okay? What if something happened to him?
“he is fine Ally” I noticed the way he called my name, but I was not going to point it out, plus I didn’t want to sounded rude. “in fact, Some associates said that they saw him today and he has been in a meeting right through out” that somehow seemed to have calmed he down. He was safe, and just as I presumed he was busy. I guess I could wait.
“oh, okay then, thank you so very much Elias.” I was suddenly drained, the anxiety o ran on for almost the whole day was starting to wear off.
“Allison?” he waited for me to respond. “you know, if he is still busy with work or something next tomorrow, we could plan something, you know, I’m sure today has been one hell of a day emotionally for you.” I smiled at the thought
“Thanks Elias. I would really appreciate that” I said. I knew he didn’t mean that. He just said it out of duty or something, but I was happy he had at least tried to cheer me up.
“I am serious Allison. You need to de-stress” he said in a little more serious tone. He yoked some more to me, mostly listening and not saying g anything because I didn’t know what to say, plus I was no where in the mental state of mind to actually carry out a conversation.
**
The call ended soon after, leading me back into my thoughts. I was back in my room, in a small corner not knowing what to do.
In my head, I was back in my old home, with my mother. Somewhere in the living room looking for a reason to beat me.
**flashback *
I sat, crouched to one corner, waiting for my family to go to sleep so I can have the leftovers since my plate had slipped from my hand, causing it to break and its contents falling all over the floor.
It was followed by a beating. It wasn’t the painful part. The words she screamed as she hit me was what from the cake.
“you worthless fool!” whip
“THIS IS WHY NO ONE WANTS YOU!!”
“JUST DIE ALREADY!!”
**
A tear fell unwillingly at the memory. Maybe she was right? Ben didn’t want me, no one does, maybe that’s why he left
