Chapter 24 Just one date
~Ava’s POV~
I stood there frozen, did Logan Carter just ask me on a date?. my heart beating faster against my chest so loudly that I was sure Logan could hear it.
He had just asked me out. Logan Carter; the cocky, arrogant, undeniably gorgeous football player had just asked me on a date.
My lips still tingled from his kiss, and my brain was struggling to keep up with everything that had just happened. It seemed like I was sent into a frenzy.
“I…” My voice came out hoarse, and I cleared my throat. That was so embarrassing!
“I don’t know what to say.”
Logan’s eyes searched mine, his brows slightly furrowed like he was preparing himself for rejection.
“You could start by saying yes,” he said, attempting his usual smirk, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. He was scared.
I exhaled loudly, stepping back slightly, needing space to think, because every time he's near me I seem to lose all my abilities to think.
Logan wasn’t just some guy asking me out. He was Logan Westbridge University’s golden boy, the guy every girl wanted but none could hold on to. He was charming and confident, but also reckless and frustrating. I had spent months convincing myself I wasn’t like the girls who fell for him.
And yet…
Here I was!
I thought about the way he looked at me, the way his lips had felt against mine, the way he had come all the way to the diner just to make sure I got home safely. Logan wasn’t the type to do things like that. At least, not for just anyone, he was a playboy but he went out of his comfort zone to help me.
And that terrified me,what if it goes wrong? What if he decides he's tired of me?
“Logan,” I said, rubbing my arms as a sudden breeze swept through the hallway.
“Are you sure this is what you want? Because I’m not going to be one of your little flings. If we do this, I need to know that you’re serious.”
His whole demeanor changed. “Do you think I go around asking girls out like this? Hell, Ava, I don’t even do dates. But for you? I’d do anything.”
His words hit me right in the chest, but I still hesitated.
What if he regrets this later?
Because as much as I wanted to believe him, I was still terrified of getting hurt.
“I need time to think,” I admitted, looking away. “I can’t just say yes without…”
Logan didn’t let me finish. He stepped forward, gripping my chin gently, forcing me to look into his deep brown eyes.
“Take all the time you need,” he murmured. “I’ll wait.”
With that, he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead before stepping back. “Goodnight, nerd.”
Then, without another word, he turned and walked away, disappearing down the staircase, leaving me breathless and more confused than ever.
I barely got any sleep, I kept tossing around on my bed. My mind replayed last night’s kiss, Logan’s confession, and the way he had looked at me like I was the only girl in the world.
By the time morning came around, I was exhausted even though I didn't do anything at all rather than daydreaming but I pushed it all to the back of my mind. I had classes, work, and other responsibilities. I couldn’t afford to let Logan Carter consume my thoughts.
Too bad fate had other plans!
Because the moment I stepped onto campus, I spotted him.
He was standing near the Westbridge football field, wearing a black hoodie and joggers, laughing at something Tristan had said.im glad he wasn't with his jocks friends, especially Aaron. His entire presence was captivating, drawing the attention of almost every girl passing by.
And then… his eyes landed on me.
I swear the entire world slowed down.
Logan smirked, lifting a hand in greeting. “Morning, nerd.”
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t ignore the way my stomach flipped at the sight of him. Get it together, Ava.
I'm acting like a love sick puppy, I've never imagined myself in this position.
Tristan, who had been drinking from a water bottle, grinned. “Ava! Just the person I wanted to see.”
I raised a brow. “Uh… why?”
Tristan is never a bubbly person, he's always quiet but today is different. It's either he's in a good mood or something happened with Charlotte.
“Because Logan here has been pacing like an idiot all morning, waiting for you to show up.”
Logan shot Tristan a glare. “Shut up.”
Tristan just smirked. “I think it’s cute. He’s completely whipped.”
I crossed my arms, tilting my head. “Whipped, huh?”
Logan sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. “Ignore him. He’s an idiot.”
Tristan gasped dramatically. “How dare you? I am your best friend.”
Whatever is going on with Tristan I hope it stays that way, I love this side of him.
I chuckled, shaking my head. “You guys are funny.”
Logan took a step closer, his voice lowering. “Have you thought about what I said last night?”
I swallowed hard, my heart doing somersaults. “I have.”
“And?”
“And… I still need time.”
I expected him to be mad or angry, but instead, he just nodded. “Fair enough.”
I blinked. “That’s it? You’re not going to pressure me?”
He shrugged. “Like I said, I’ll wait. But just so you know…” He leaned in slightly, his lips dangerously close to my ear. “I don’t give up easily.”
I shivered, my breath catching in my throat.
Tristan groaned. “Oh my god, can you two stop eye-fucking each other? It’s too early for this.”
I shoved Tristan playfully. “Shut up, Tristan, you think Charlotte won't tell me your love life…”
Tristan covered his ears “I can't believe char told you about that” he said
Logan chuckled, giving me one last look before stepping back. “See you later, nerd.”
And just like that, he walked away, leaving me to deal with lowering speed of my heart because if I don't come down I might have a heart attack.
Hours passed by when I was at the library, attempting to focus on my studies, when my phone vibrated.
Logan: Have you eaten?
I smiled at my screen before quickly typing back.
Me: Yes, mom!
His reply came almost immediately.
Logan: Cute 🙄But seriously, I’m outside. Let’s go for a walk.
My eyes widened. He was outside?
I peeked through the library windows, and sure enough, there he was, leaning against the wall, looking completely relaxed.
My stomach did a weird flip.
Something might be wrong with my stomach these days!
I hesitated for a moment before sighing. Screw it
Ava you're changing! I thought. I can't believe I'm ditching my studies to be with a boy!!
Grabbing my things, I headed outside.
Logan looked up as I approached, a slow smirk curling on his lips. “That was fast.”
I rolled my eyes. “Shut up. Where are we going?”
He shrugged. “Just walking. Come on.”
We walked in comfortable silence for a while before Logan finally spoke.
“Ava, can I ask you something?”
I glanced at him. “Sure.”
His jaw tightened. “What… scares you the most about saying yes to me?”
I sucked in a breath, caught off guard by the question.
“It’s not that I don’t want to,” I admitted. “It’s just… I know your reputation, Logan. I don’t want to be just another girl to you.”
Logan stopped walking, turning to face me. “You’re not just another girl.”
I bit my lip, uncertainty still lingering. “How do I know that? You have been changing girls your whole life Logan”
His hands cupped my face gently, his eyes holding mine. “Because I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. And it scares the shit out of me, too.”
He took a step closer, his voice softer now. “I know I’ve made mistakes, and I won’t pretend to be perfect. But I do know one thing…I want you, Ava. And I’ll spend as long as it takes proving that to you I still regret all I did to you and I'm repenting that”
I swallowed hard, my walls breaking piece by piece.
“Logan…”
“Just one date,” he murmured. “Give me one chance.”
I hesitated for only a second before nodding. “Okay.”
His entire face lit up. “Yeah?”
I smiled. “Yeah.”
Logan let out a breath of relief before grinning. “You won’t regret it, nerd.”
And I better not regret it.
