Chapter 23 Go out with me
Ava's pov
“Hurry up Ava! You're going to be late again" Charlotte yelled from her room.
“Girl, chill out! I'm done" I said carrying my bag and exited the room. I had an early shift at the diner today, Debra had called me earlier today.
“I'll see you later right? Or are you going out with Tristan again? I asked her
She grinned, she always does that whenever we're talking about Tristan. She's love sick I swear.
" Yeah! We're going out and I might actually spend a night at his apartment. You know… maybe rekindle our love..”
" Please! Spare me the details char! I don't need to know your love life with Tristan, it's gross”. I covered my ears Even though she didn't say anything bad but I wanted to tease her.
Charlotte laughed" okay Ava! Don't be dramatic,but everything is set, there's food in the kitchen and everything,so you don't need to worry”.
I nodded " I'll be fine char,now I'm gonna go see you tomorrow” I reached the door and turned to her ,I waved at her then exited the room.
I called a cab and when I was waiting for the cab I took my phone and started scrolling through my messages, when one message caught me by surprise.
Logan:you good nerd?
I was busy grinning at the message like an idiot when a cab pulled by and I slid into the backseat of the cab. The scent of the air freshener instantly filled my nose.
I put my phone back into my hoodie pockets and glanced out of the window as the cab sped by. I had another long shift today at the diner and it was already evening 5pm and I had to work till 10pm. But the pay was decent and it will help me with my bills later and rent.
The cab came to a stop In Front of the small diner. I handed the cab driver the fare giving him an appreciative smile before stepping out.
The bell above the door dinged as I entered. Since it was already evening,the diner was already filled with people who were busy in conversations. I went inside the staff room,put my things in the locker then put on an apron. My shift at this time is always busy but I can handle it.
“Hey Ava, table 3 is ready for you" said Debra disappearing into the kitchen. I nodded and grabbed a coffee pot heading to the table.
I started the shift,serving, refilling drinks, offering menus and memorizing orders of the regular. My mind was focused on the tasks at the end,from wiping down counters to scrubbing.
As hours passed by, exhaustion finally kicked in. My feet ached,my hands were hurting from scrubbing greasy plates but still I had to finish my duty keeping up with the rush until the last order was taken.
Finally my shift ended,I grabbed my things from the staff room and bid goodbye to Debra. I pushed the door open stepping into the cool night air.
All I wanted now was to sleep!
But as I looked around there leaning against the diner entrance stood Logan. My heart skipped a beat at the sight of him.
“What are you doing here?" I asked my voice to come out softly. I wasn't expecting to see him here.
Logan pushed himself off the wall “Tristan told me you worked here" he said casually,his tone warm and soothing.
“I was nearby and I thought I'd walk you home but I didn't think you'd be out here this late alone nerd".
I was stunned, Logan was waiting for me? “You didn't have to do that Logan". I replied though my words came out softer than I intended.
“I know" Logan said with a genuine smile “but I wanted to,that way my heart will be at peace. Let's go".
I didn't know what to say. I had expected to go back alone like I always did but Logan was here and I couldn't be more happy to see him.
“Alright" I said, taking a deep breath,my heart fluttering slightly.”let's go".
We took a cab back to Charlotte apartment. During the ride,we were both quiet, silence filled the car, each one of us didn't know what to say.
By the time we reached Charlotte apartment,I took my wallet to pay the driver but Logan beat me to it,I gave him an annoyed look then thanked the driver.
I turned to Logan “Thank you Logan for escorting me back". I said but he nodded again.
“I'll walk you to the door," he said.
Okay… he was acting differently today,I wonder what's going on with him. We climbed the stairs walking side by side till we reached the door.
" Thank you again,”I said.
" You're welcome,” he said, looking into my eyes. I kept waiting for him to leave but he stood there like a complete idiot. We were having a staring contest going on.
" Well, goodnight! You can go now” I urged him to leave . He nodded again, turning around and started heading down,he took a few steps then turned back in a few strides calling my name.
" Wait Ava!” I turned back to face him to ask him what he was going to say when he grabbed my face and kissed me.
He kissed me!
We've kissed a few times before but this one seems more rushed and passionate than the others. I've been kissed many times before but nothing came close to Logan's kisses.
I grabbed onto his shirt as he deepened the kiss.
And boy! He was a good kisser
After a few minutes we eventually pull away, catching our breaths. He placed his forehead against mine, both of us breathing heavily.
“Ava" he whispered his voice low “I know I'm an asshole, a fucking playboy as you always say and I can't deny that. But I can't stand this anymore. You drive me crazy in ways I can't even explain,I have never let anyone have this much effect on me but you" .
“I've never let anyone in but I want that with you. I don't want to be just your tutee, and I don't just want you around… I need you”. He took a deep breath and continued
" Please go out on a date with me, please?” His eyes searched mine for an answer.
And I stood there frozen, contemplating everything he had said.
Logan Carter asked me out.
On a date!
