Chapter 30 30
Chapter 30 30
Nathan’s POV
The replay of the past few weeks filled my mind as I turned acros the chair in my office, twirling the pen in my hands letting out deep sighs as the strain of stress weighed heavily on me.
“Yes doctor, I just need someone who can spend the entire time with me in the house and fully take care of me while I recover. The recovery process is as you’ve said yourself strenuous and I need as much rest as possible.” I instructed over the phone as I let out a small cough, the slight pain across my ribcage spreading rather slowly through my entire system.
“Sure thing Alpha Nathan. I would get back to you and release an experienced doctor or nurse to join you at the pack house or any place fo your choice to supervise your healing process.” The doctor replied.
“Thank you doctor.” I’d expressed my gratitude on his take of the instruction.
My brows furrowed as I realized that it’s been two more weeks since the last call we had, he hadn’t bothered to send a call back in the past few weeks and neither was his assistant or anyone else available to return the calls back. I found it highly unpleasant and even though it’s been a request fork my end I still expected that they would treat the need with a bit more importance than what I was receiving.
Apart from the fact that I hadn’t been able to reach the doctor, I had already paid for someone to be sent down to me and even till now no one had been sent down to the villa. To many who knew that we were lycanthropes they called it the pack house but to many other humans who were unaware of our clear but yet unclear difference called the pack house exactly what they saw it as.
“A villa.” I echoed out of my mind, dropping the pen into the table as I pushed the chair away from the table before stretching out a bit ensuring not to strain my muscles as I did so and rose to my feet.
I needed to get to the hospital and check out the doctor myself, I wasn’t going to let him take the fact that I was slowly recovering for granted or be seen as a weakness.
Jade has been a bit off during the past few days and mother had been a bit more accommodating with my absence here and there. I barely ever stepped out of my office except it was to my room to retire for the night after taking care of the pack issues through the day. The last time we’d had a proper conversation would be the last night where Jade stumbled upon me naked in the room and even then I hadn’t been too much interested in a conversation.
It seemed like she was trying her best to please me and at the same time trying her best to remain her normal self. I’d given up on trying to change hee characters and behaviors with the pack members but that just led to more unnecessary trivial matter arising.
I brush my hair out of my face and stand upright moving towards the door and assigning a guard to find Cole as I move out of the office and walk through the hallway.
“Collins.” My name is accompanied with a scent that makes me regret stepping out of the office.
Jade walks a bit faster skipping a few steps as she jogs to my side, her eyes twinkling with a new found childish amusement. The look on her face used to make my heart skip too many beats at a point but now the sheer curiousity to know what’s going on in her mind has been too easily replaced with the need to have her out of my space.
I hid the frown that threatened to replace the neutral look on my face as she wrapped her arms around mine.
“Are you headed somewhere??” She asked as we both walked down the stairwell.
“I just found out that there was a book signing at downtown square for THE NORA ROBERTS!!” She continued not waiting for a response.
Jade had recently become a die hard fan of the authoress after attending a book signing event at one of the many novelty events of the year a few months back. My hands stilled and I hoped she didn’t notice, I didn’t want to worry her about the condition of my health even though she hadn’t asked or kept tabs I knew that in her own little way she cares and even now that she was probably going to ask me to follow her for the event, rather than act on the impusle to pull my arms out of her touch and walk away. Jade didn’t deserve that as much as anyone else did.
“I have to be somewhere else tonight.” My voice is monotone and void, a bit too cringe even for me but I play it off and keep walking down the stairs watching the glint slowly reduce as we reach the end of the stairs and watch Cole appear from the other end of the room walking towards me a nod of his head in respect.
“Ohhh. That’s…it’s okay.” Jade’s words are smudged with specks of uncertainty about her own words and even though it feels like she has more to say she just walks past cole without much of a greeting.
I let out a sigh and push all other emotions filtering my head out facing my beta.
“Gather a few more gaurds we need to get to the hospital.” I instruct Cole and walk towards the door moving towards the door ignoring the gnawing ache that’s settling in my chest.
I know the slight pain all too familiar, the mate bond never resisted to remind me of its enabling powers. Almost times I ended up wondering if it was only possible for one mate to feel the mate bond regardless of state and gender, because I found it quite disturbing when it seemed like I was the only one who every truly felt each of our pains but it seemed like jade was never bothered by my pain or burdens.
It made no sense.
Getting into the car, the driver seated at the front, a gaurd at the front seat. It didn’t take long for Cole to get into the car and a few other gaurds who trailed behind us as we moved out of the pack gate, my hands gripped my biceps as I folded my arms together thinking about the last time we’d been to the hospital and Cole had claimed to catch sight of Terra.
I think that was what briefly pushed up my decision to ask for someone from the hospital just so I could possibly gain a chance to increase the possibility of seeing her myself.
“Call the hospital and inform them that we’re on way.” I tell Cole.
I catch the glints of the setting sun and watch it as we drive through the busy streets, watching the cars drive by and the subtle hue of the sunset illuminate the tiny shops and rather large houses, everything basically existing in its own element paying no attention to any other form of the other but still coexisting with the need for one another.
“Yes. We’re on our way to the hospital already,” Cole states over the phone breaking the temporary gaze I had on the outside world.
“I’d reckon you reach out to your doctor and have him present by the time we get to the hospital.” He adds and hangs up the phone settling it within the pocket of his waist coat.
“The hospital reported that doctor collins had already clocked out for the day but I’d requested that he be called in.” Cole says.
I raise my brows in amusement at his words. “Tahy didn’t seem like a request to me.”
“Well…I learnt from the best then.” He smirked before facing the window.
On getting to the hospital, we waste no time in storming the reception making our way towards the doctors office.
A blonde female catches my interest and I realize that I’d caught sight of her somewhere before but couldn’t fully recall where. Her eyes gleam and trail over myself and Cole before she fixes her eyes on her work while I knock on the door of the doctors office.
“Alpha Nathan!!” Doctor collins voice is heard from across the hallway. His steady form moving quickly towards me.
“Is this the way you treat your patients Mr collins??” I rage not waiting for anything he has to say.
“I’m sorry about the delay Alpha. I promise you someone would be sent to you in three days. I have just been caught up with a few personal issues.” The doctor ensured.
Fatigue hits in from the stance and I don’t wait for any more words from him before signaling to Cole on our departure, I leave the doctor and the hospital behind and make our way towards the pack house.
