Chapter 10 10
Chapter 10 10
Derek POV
The soft glow of the sun filters through the curtain. I smiled softly at Lily in front of me, who I was trying to dress up for school.
“Are you going to try to communicate with your teachers in school today, Lily?” I asked her.
But just as I expected, I received no response from her. She tried too hard to avoid eye contact with me.
“Daddy loves you okay,” I told her and kissed her forehead.
“Try to listen to your teachers in school,” I told her.
She nodded this time, and I was happy at her improvement.
I knew her school bus would soon arrive. After dressing her up, I carried her in my arms and made my way out of her room.
“Daddy, what about Mummy?" Lily suddenly asked
I halted instantly.
Ever since Aria left home, she had always asked for Aria.
“I told you she is no longer staying with us. We will be living alone starting from today.” I told her.
When we reached the living room, I gently placed her down.
“Or don’t you love living with Daddy?” I asked her.
She didn’t respond; instead, she moved closer to me and leaned against me, her way of showing her affection.
“Good girl. Daddy loves you, Lily.” I ruffled her hair.
I heard faint footsteps approaching us, and I immediately knew it was the housekeeper.
“Alpha, the bus will soon be here. I will take it up from here.” She told me.
I gently handed Lily over to her and watched her take her outside.
I sighed before returning to my room. I glanced at the clock and noticed how late it was. I had been busy preparing Lily for school, and I lost track of time.
My phone rang, and I knew it was a call from my secretary.
“Sir. It’s almost time for the conference meeting.” He told me the moment I picked up.
“I will be there in a few minutes,” I told him and hung up.
I rushed into my bathroom, where I took a quick bath. When I was done, I wore my clothes in a hurry.
Buttoning up my shirt, I was instantly reminded of Aria again.
I hated her and didn’t want to remember her.
Even though it was hard at first taking care of Lily alone, I was already used to it. We had settled into a routine without her.
But whenever Lily asked for her, I hated it.
I couldn’t believe Aria left for another man; I couldn’t believe she got engaged to another life, leaving her daughter behind.
Even though he had a misunderstanding, wasn’t she supposed to try to sort it out because of Lily? Instead, she went ahead to get engaged to a different man without bothering about how Lily was.
I stormed out of the house and got into my car.
Stepping vividly on the accelerator, I zoomed off, heading for my company.
“Sir, the boards of directors are already waiting.” I was welcomed by the secretary.
I ignored him and walked directly towards the conference room.
To forget Aria, all I do is work and work! I buried myself and my hurt with work.
After getting into the conference room, I addressed the board of directors; after I was done, I returned to my office.
“What’s next on my schedule?” I asked my secretary after working my butt out for hours.
He looked shocked.
“Y- you aren’t taking a break?” He asked me.
My stern gaze immediately fell on him.
“Do you expect me to take a break when I have a lot on my table?” I asked him.
"No, sir, but..
“Get me the files from Dustin’s company.” I told him to cut him off.
His eyes widened in shock, but he didn’t dare to press further.
“I will do that right away, sir.” He said and rushed out of my office.
I was left alone for a second. I focused all my attention on the file I was checking on the laptop.
After working the whole day, I glanced at the clock and noticed it had already gotten so late.
Lily will be waiting for me at home. The thought of her brought a little stain of a smile to my lips.
I immediately shut down the laptop in front of me and prepared myself to return home. No matter how much I occupied myself with work, I always made time to be with Lily.
I grabbed my phone and my car key before walking out of my office. I took the elevator and strode to the underground parking lot. I got into my car and drove back home.
“Welcome back, Alpha.” I was welcomed by the housekeeper.
“What about Lily?” I asked her immediately.
“She is in her room, sleeping.” She told me.
“I made dinner. Should I serve the table now?” She asked.
I ignored her and walked towards Lily’s room instead.
The moment I arrived in front of her room, I quietly pushed the door and walked in.
My gaze immediately rested on the young girl sleeping peacefully on her bed while hugging her favourite teddy bear.
I walked closer to her and sat at her bedside. I took a close look at her face, which reminded me of someone so greatly.
I patted her hair quietly, but I didn’t expect that to wake her up. She gently opened up her eyes and looked at me.
“Daddy...” She said in her lowest voice
I didn’t expect Lily to suddenly smile at me, melting my heart.
I ruffled her hair quietly and smiled more brightly at her.
“Do you miss me?” I asked her, and she nodded.
Cutting Aria off wasn’t easy, but we are getting better at getting used to not having her around.
