Chapter 86 Identity Exposed

Elizabeth shot Ella a look that screamed, 'Are you serious right now?'

What on earth was Ella thinking, saying something so dumb?

"Ella, I used to think you had some sense, but jealousy is really messing you up," Elizabeth said, enunciating each word.

Before Emily showed up, Ella was pretty normal. Sure, she had her moments, but nothing major.

But once Emily got the gig of handling Brian, Ella started acting all weird.

Day by day, it got worse, especially as Emily got more recognition. Ella began screwing up more often.

Eventually, Ella became obsessed with catching Emily slipping up.

Elizabeth knew life wasn't always fair. She'd told Ella privately to just focus on her own work, and she'd get her shot.

But Ella only nodded and kept envying Emily.

Emily was David's daughter. No way David would let his daughter just be a secretary.

He just wanted her to get a feel for the family business.

"Yeah, I'm jealous, but that stuff should've been mine," Ella yelled, losing it.

"Hey, you two, take Ella to rest for a bit," Elizabeth told two girls who were usually tight with Ella, signaling them to take her away. There were outsiders around, and this scene was getting messy.

Ella took a few steps but then rushed back, grabbing Elizabeth's hand, looking a bit unhinged. "Isn't it because she's Mr. Johnson's side piece? You're sucking up to her. If Mrs. Johnson finds out, let's see if you can keep your job."

"Stop talking crap!" Elizabeth's face darkened.

The other staff in the office looked super uncomfortable. This was an open secret, but everyone knew it was off-limits to talk about.

Aaron was floored, not sure if he could believe what he was hearing.

If it was true, he had no idea how to break it to James. Plus, Emily didn't seem like that kind of person. How could she be involved in something like this?

Seeing Elizabeth's reaction, Ella was thrilled, "Can't deny it, huh? Looks like it's true. Mr. Johnson really has bad taste, picking such a trashy mistress!"

"Who did you say has a mistress?" Mia's voice suddenly cut in from behind.

Everyone's face went pale seeing Mia, avoiding her gaze.

David, the chairman of the Johnson Group, was known for spoiling his wife. Mia was always right in his eyes, and the employees had seen firsthand how David pampered Mia.

Elizabeth's face changed when she saw Mia, but she kept her cool.

She stepped forward respectfully. "Mrs. Johnson."

Mia nodded slightly, glanced at the guilty-looking crowd, and pointed at Ella, asking Elizabeth, "Is what she said true?"

Elizabeth replied, "No, Mrs. Johnson, it's all a big misunderstanding."

Elizabeth knew Emily's real situation and that this was all a mix-up. She was about to explain when Ella quickly butted in, "No, Mrs. Johnson, she's lying. Mr. Johnson did cheat on you, and his mistress is in the conference room right now."

Elizabeth rolled her eyes, thinking, 'Ella, you're such an idiot.'

Mia didn't buy Ella's story. She had a lot of faith in David; they'd been through thick and thin together.

"I'll go check it out," Mia said.

Elizabeth didn't stop her. After all, Emily was Mia's daughter, and the truth would be obvious.

Ella's eyes lit up with glee, and she shot Elizabeth a smug look. She was eager to see if Elizabeth could keep her job as chief secretary once Mia found out about Emily.

Elizabeth stayed cool, ignoring Ella's look.

Mia reached the conference room door, and before she could open it, it swung open from the inside.

Emily stood there, with James right behind her.

Before Mia and Emily could say anything, Ella jumped in front of Mia.

"Mrs. Johnson, she's Mr. Johnson's mistress. And not just him, she's been with Mr. Scott and Mr. Smith too. She's a total tramp," Ella said, getting more worked up.

She looked at Emily with a triumphant grin.

But the next second, Mia slapped her.

Ella stared at Mia in shock, confused. "Mrs. Johnson, why did you slap me?"

Mia looked at Ella with disgust. "You insulted my daughter. Why wouldn't I slap you?"

Everyone was stunned. They had considered many possibilities but never thought Emily was the daughter David had just found.

"What did you say?" Ella's eyes widened in disbelief. She took a few steps back, looking at Emily in panic. "No, how can you be Mr. Johnson's daughter? You must be his mistress."

Mia, being sharp, knew exactly what was going on.

She walked up to Ella, snapping, "If you keep slandering Emily, I'll sew your mouth shut."

This was the first time Mia had lost her temper at the Johnson Group.

Today was the day Emily and James were discussing a partnership. Mia had come to the Johnson Group to check things out but didn't expect to witness such a scene.

She looked at Emily with heartache, knowing Emily had been wronged but didn't tell the family.

Seeing Mia's eyes, Emily's expression softened. She walked to Mia's side, holding her hand, actually checking her condition.

She said, "Mom, your heart isn't in good shape. Don't get too worked up."

"How can I not be angry? She slandered you, and as your mother, it breaks my heart," Mia's voice had a hint of tears.

Emily's heart ached. She hugged Mia, looking intensely at Elizabeth. "Take her away and deal with it."

"Yes," Elizabeth nodded.

Without Elizabeth's instructions, someone stepped forward to drag Ella away, and Elizabeth followed to handle the situation.

"Mrs. Johnson," James stepped forward to greet her.

Mia nodded politely at him but not giving him a second glance.

"Mom, you go find Dad first. James and I have some things to discuss," Emily coaxed Mia.

Mia, still feeling sorry for Emily, nodded and decided to go upstairs to find David.

She didn't believe David had been at the company for so long without hearing those rumors.

In any case, she wouldn't allow Emily to be wronged in the slightest.
