Chapter 143 Single
Chapter 143 Single
George leaned back in his chair, looking thoughtful. "Joshua's got the skills, no doubt. If he agrees to come back and help, that'd be perfect. But he's been living abroad for ages; he might not be up for it."
Isabella nodded. "He was your secretary for so long; he should accept the invite, right? Want me to give him a call?"
"Yeah, go ahead. Just tell him it's my idea."
"Alright."
Isabella's massage was just what George needed, easing the tension in his shoulders. He was so worn out that he dozed off right there in the chair.
She felt bad for him, not wanting to wake him, but she knew sleeping in the chair wasn't great. She gently patted him. "Honey, go sleep in the bed."
George mumbled, "Okay."
Once George was asleep, Isabella quietly left the bedroom. She still had Joshua's number. Unsure if it would still work, she decided to give it a shot and dialed.
The call connected quickly, and Joshua's voice came through. "Isabella?"
"Yeah, it's me. It's been a while, huh?"
Joshua chuckled. "Yeah, it has. How've you been?"
"I'm good. How about you?"
"Work's been rough. I'm thinking about coming back."
"Really?" Isabella perked up. "Got any job lined up yet?"
"Not yet. I'll figure it out once I'm back."
"Then come to Stellar City. We can catch up, and maybe there's a job for you here." Isabella kept it vague.
Joshua, feeling a bit down lately, agreed to head to Stellar City for a change of scenery. "Sure."
"I'll be waiting for you then."
A few days later, Isabella picked Joshua up at the airport. Seeing him brought back memories of their tough times in Rexonia.
"Welcome to Stellar City," Isabella greeted him warmly.
"Thanks for inviting me," Joshua replied.
Isabella opened the car door. "Hop in. I've got somewhere to take you."
"Still keeping secrets, huh?"
"I'm taking you to meet someone," she teased.
Joshua was curious. "Someone I know?"
"Yep."
"Now I'm intrigued."
They drove through the bustling city, heading straight to the underground parking lot of Depth Group.
Joshua was surprised. "Depth Group?"
"Yep," Isabella confirmed.
After parking, they headed to the top floor office. Joshua was a bit overwhelmed. He'd worked at top companies, but Depth Group was on another level.
Isabella led the way to the president's office. She knocked, and after a response, she walked in. "I've brought him."
Joshua stepped in and saw George on the phone. He was taken aback.
George hung up and greeted him. "Joshua."
"Wait, are you...?" Joshua started to piece it together. "Are you George Spencer, the president of Depth Group?"
Joshua glanced at Isabella again. "So, you're Mrs. Spencer?"
George motioned for him to sit, and Isabella handed him a cup of coffee. "You didn't know we were married, did you?"
Joshua finally put the pieces together. "Mr. Spencer, you wanted to see me, right?"
George nodded. "Yeah, I need your help. What do you think?"
Joshua was eager. "Absolutely, I'd love to."
"Great. But the job's tough, and you'll need to travel a lot. Can you handle that?" George asked.
"No problem. I'm single, so I can be anywhere."
George patted his shoulder. "Alright then, Joshua, you're the new vice president. For now, help Isabella with her tasks. Once the Jones Group's matters are settled, we'll sort out your role."
Joshua felt a mix of flattery and nerves. "Isn't that position a bit high?"
"You can handle it."
George's trust wasn't given lightly. Joshua was fluent in several languages and had been a special assistant to the president for years. A vice president role was well-deserved.
Joshua said, "Thank you, Mr. Spencer. I'll do my best."
"Tonight, I'll arrange a dinner for us."
"Sounds good."
Joshua officially took over Caleb's work, dealing with the Jones Group's issues.
Isabella also had to enroll in school. Returning to campus felt like a reunion, especially when she saw Colin standing in front of her and Elodie. It felt like stepping back into that summer two years ago.
Colin greeted them, "Isabella, Elodie."
"Colin." The three of them hugged tightly. "Didn't expect Elodie and I to come back, did you?"
"Really didn't. I'm so happy." Colin was still the same kind-hearted guy, full of energy and aspirations. He was now the president of the student council.
Isabella said, "Elodie and I came back to get our diplomas, so if there's anything we can help with, just let us know."
Besides Colin, they met many other classmates, which reminded Isabella of Sierra from back then.
Back then, after Sierra was expelled, she teamed up with Joseph to kidnap Isabella. Later, she got together with Simon, and when Isabella had a car accident, Sierra didn't help her. Thinking about it still made Isabella angry. She muttered, "I wonder where Sierra is now."
Elodie remembered something from a few days ago. "I saw her at the hospital."
"Is Sierra sick? Or is it her gambling-addicted mom?"
"That day, I went to get my mom's test results and saw her coming out of the OB-GYN department, holding her stomach. Not sure what was wrong."
Isabella shook her head. Although Sierra was no longer at school, rumors about her were still rampant, especially from her former followers who spread her stories everywhere.
Isabella and Elodie had only been back at school for a week and already knew Sierra's stories from the past two years.
"You know, Sierra was expelled and couldn't possibly get her diploma. And she had sex with..." Elodie whispered to Isabella, "that old man. He couldn't even make decisions. What was he tricking her with?"
