Chapter 204
Victoria curled her lips slightly.
Was Martin good to her? If he was good to her, why would he keep cursing her to die?
The sales assistant, seeing Victoria's silence and thinking she didn't believe her, continued with a smile, "I'm telling the truth, not trying to flatter you. I've worked at this store for quite a while and seen plenty of rich customers. But men who accompany their wives to pick out baby supplies are really rare."
"Most of the time it's wealthy wives coming with bodyguards or servants. Your husband is so handsome and so generous, he's really great. You don't know this, but some young couples come shopping, and when the wife picks up expensive formula, the husband deliberately coughs."
"Everything you picked is top-of-the-line, and your husband hasn't made a peep." The sales assistant spoke enviously.
Victoria listened to her words, watching the innocent smile on her face, "If I could find a man as good as your husband in the future, I'd wake up laughing in my dreams."
Wake up laughing in her dreams?
More like wake up terrified, scared into madness.
Victoria lowered her eyes, holding the formula can in her hands. She didn't speak up to shatter the sales assistant's fantasy.
Everyone has the right to dream, the right to pursue a beautiful life.
Just because she wasn't happy didn't mean the sales assistant would be as unlucky as her in the future.
Victoria bought many things, and Martin paid efficiently.
Then he left the apartment address, because the baby store said they would help with home delivery.
Martin was inside paying.
Victoria waited outside.
Leaning against the railing, looking down, she could see several elevators on the first floor constantly going up and down.
And people constantly walking back and forth, very lively.
Victoria used to enjoy shopping and browsing malls too, but Martin was never around.
Now, probably because she had terminal cancer, she couldn't muster any interest in her former hobbies.
If she could, she just wanted to lie quietly in a rocking chair, sunbathe, drink tea, and enjoy what little time she had left.
"Ms. Gonzalez."
A loud voice rang in her ear.
Victoria turned her head and saw Aaron, in casual clothes with a buzz cut, standing before her.
Time had passed too quickly. She couldn't remember when they'd last met.
But she was quite happy to see Aaron.
Because every meeting meant one less meeting to come.
"Ms. Gonzalez, what are you doing here? Shopping?" Aaron smiled. Perhaps from his time as a police officer, he stood ramrod straight.
Full of vigor.
Though he was an illegitimate child, he gave Victoria the air of an aristocratic young master.
Victoria pointed at the baby store, "Just browsing."
Aaron looked over, his eyes startled, his shocked gaze falling on her again, "Ms. Gonzalez, didn't you have a miscarriage? Don't tell me you're—"
"Yes, I'm pregnant again." Victoria nodded, her voice very tired.
Aaron narrowed his eyes, looking at her with a complicated expression, "You can barely protect yourself now, and you're pregnant? You could die."
Victoria pressed her lips together, wanting to speak but stopping.
She wanted to say so much, but when she opened her mouth, she didn't know what to say.
Because even if she said it, Aaron couldn't help her.
As for dying, she knew that, but what good did knowing do?
Her former attending physician had warned her she could die, Aaron was warning her too.
But these warnings didn't help much anymore.
"It was Martin who got you get pregnant, wasn't it?"
Victoria didn't answer.
"Victoria, you need to tell him you have terminal liver cancer. He's being reckless, you can't be reckless with him."
Aaron's words made Victoria feel suffocated.
Her heart felt stuffy, uncomfortably so.
Besides being reckless with Martin, she seemed unable to do anything else.
Victoria pressed her lips together, smiling at him, "Don't worry about me, I'm fine. Didn't you once tell me something? Don't interfere with someone else's fate, or you'll take on their debt."
And her fate was to wait quietly for the day she would pass away.
"I'm looking for a match for you, don't give up. Ms. Gonzalez, I also said something else—life is precious, you only live once. Don't be like Tamsin, it's not worth it." Aaron patiently tried to persuade her.
Before, if she'd heard someone was willing to find a match for her, she would have cried tears of gratitude.
Back then, she was terrified of dying.
But now, she wasn't afraid anymore.
She could even accept it calmly.
As long as Hayden woke up and she confirmed Hayden was okay, she could accept her fate.
Living was painful and exhausting—for Victoria, it was like this.
Victoria smiled bitterly, "Aaron, I really don't need it."
"Do you have some difficulty? If you have difficulties, if you consider me your friend and trust me, you can tell me. I'll help you." Aaron frowned, speaking patiently.
Victoria shook her head, "No."
"How's your father?"
"He's doing well, should wake up in a few days." Victoria said.
"Victoria, are we friends?" Aaron looked at her for a long time, noticing a strong sense of sadness about her, before finally speaking.
Victoria nodded without thinking, "Yes."
"Then you can trust me and confide in me. I'm willing to be your trash can. Though I can't match your husband's power and influence, if you're willing, I can also help you leave him." Aaron looked at her.
That gaze held some inexplicable emotion.
Victoria felt her cheeks flush under his gaze.
She thought she was reading too much into it. If this were before, if a man looked at her like this and said so many heartfelt things to her, she would definitely think he liked her.
But now she was down and out, and sick all over.
No one would like someone like that.
Victoria looked away, about to speak and tell him it wasn't necessary.
She didn't want the upright and kind Aaron to get dragged into the grudges between her and Martin.
It wouldn't be fair to Aaron, would it?
The words of refusal were rolling in her throat.
A man's cold, mocking voice crashed down on her head, piercing her eardrums, "Mr. Hill, I'm just curious—have all the women in the world died out, or are you blind? Why do you have to get all cozy with a woman who's carrying my child?"
Victoria looked up.
She saw Martin's face dark and cold as he walked out of the baby store.
Even his anger had such presence.
Aaron didn't get angry either, but smiled slightly, "Martin, Ms. Gonzalez is your wife. Being good to your wife won't hurt you."
"Do I need you to teach me how to get along with my wife? Or are you saying you and she already have experience getting along?" Martin's hand suddenly grabbed Victoria's waist tightly, this move undoubtedly asserting ownership.
Victoria was about to resist when Martin's large hand gripped even tighter, warning in a low voice through gritted teeth in her ear, "If you dare move, I'll take Hayden's life."
