Chapter 189
"Only ten days until New Year's Day. Once New Year's passes, spring will come." Aaron frowned. He wasn't really good at comforting people. He knew Victoria needed comfort right now, but he couldn't think of what to say for a long while.
Victoria let out a bitter laugh. Yeah, time flies so fast. In just ten days, this year would be completely over.
Once New Year's Day passed, warm spring would arrive.
But even if she found a suitable liver and the transplant surgery succeeded, would her spring really come?
Probably not.
She had lost Martin's child, and he would only try every way possible to torture her.
Living would only exhaust her body and soul.
Victoria sadly realized that she was becoming less and less afraid of death, even looking forward to that day coming sooner.
She didn't want to hear Martin's curses anymore, didn't want to hear Martin's cold, heart-piercing sarcasm anymore!
Thinking of this, a bitter smile appeared on Victoria's lips. She looked up at Aaron in front of her, "Mr. Hill, thank you for your kindness, but I don't need it anymore."
"Ms. Gonzalez, only by living is there hope." Aaron's frown deepened.
Victoria shook her head, "That might be true for others, but not for me. Everyone will have that day sooner or later. What difference does it make if it comes earlier or later?"
"Victoria—" Aaron suddenly called her name, "Don't you want to see that mute boy anymore?"
Victoria was stunned for a moment. The mute boy?
She had wanted to see him, but Mia told her that the mute boy had died long ago, that he was no longer in this world.
If Aaron hadn't brought it up, she would have almost forgotten about it.
Thinking of the mute boy made Victoria's heart feel even more blocked.
"Mr. Hill, there's no need to keep looking into the mute boy's matter." Victoria pressed her lips together.
He looked at her in confusion, "Why?"
"Because he's already dead. Looking further would just be a waste of time. Either way, thank you for your efforts, Mr. Hill." To show her gratitude to Aaron, Victoria bowed deeply to him.
He noticed Victoria's face was getting paler and paler, her whole being giving off an air of decay.
Victoria turned and left.
He stood there for a long time before leaving.
Victoria didn't know if it was because her body was getting weaker, but after just a few steps, she was exhausted.
Walk a few steps, rest for a long time, continue walking.
She returned to the second floor.
The once spotless decor, tables, and ornaments were all covered in dust.
Her change of clothes and toiletries were all at Martin's apartment.
She would have to sleep here tonight.
She hadn't eaten all day. Victoria's stomach was growling with hunger, her stomach producing acid, making her feel terrible.
But there were no snacks in the villa, no vegetables in the fridge.
Not even a single tomato.
Victoria finally found a cup of instant noodles. That cup of noodles was from a year ago, when she went to the Gonzalez Group to bring Martin food and saw instant noodles on his desk.
Not wanting him to eat unhealthy food, she had brought this cup of noodles back home.
Victoria had been a pampered young lady since childhood and wouldn't eat such nutritionless instant food even once a year.
But when you're hungry, anything tastes good.
Victoria ate in big mouthfuls, even drinking all the broth from the noodle cup.
Suddenly her phone on the table rang loudly.
She glanced at the caller—it was Aria.
Aria usually only called her when something was wrong with Hayden.
Victoria quickly picked up the phone and answered.
"Victoria, did you upset him again?" Aria was agitated on the phone, her voice full of anxiety.
This "him"—Victoria knew without asking that it meant Martin.
Victoria didn't speak, but changed the subject, "Mom, did something happen?"
"Of course something happened! Terry suddenly stopped your father's medication. Didn't you know? I thought you two were just having a small fight, so I didn't call you. But your father's medication has been stopped for three hours now. What is he trying to do? What is Martin trying to do?"
Aria shouted angrily on the phone, "Last time he cut off your father's medication, it was because you disappeared. Now you're back, and you're even carrying his child. He shouldn't be so ruthless. I'm so angry. He's really an ungrateful wretch! He's an animal!"
"Can't you talk things out nicely? Why does he keep cutting off your father's medication? You're fighting—that's between you husband and wife. What does it have to do with your father? This is too much bullying, too much!"
Aria continued, then started blaming Victoria, "Victoria, Mom's not criticizing you. You know what kind of person he is. Why do you still argue with him? I told you, just bear with it a little longer. Wait until your father wakes up, then we can figure things out. Why are you fighting with him?"
"When you two have conflicts, the Gonzalez family suffers, your father suffers! Child, from when you started dating him, I told you he had ulterior motives. He was interested in you because you're the only daughter of the Gonzalez family, that's why he dated you! But you wouldn't listen. You said I was biased against him! Now look, Mom was right about him, wasn't she? It's too late for regrets."
Wave after wave of blame and shifting responsibility.
Made the instant noodles in Victoria's mouth taste like wax.
Her nose stung, and tears kept falling.
Martin had cut off Hayden's medication again!
Martin told her to live with her regrets every day, and sure enough, he did what he said—he acted so quickly.
Victoria wiped away her tears, forcing down the sourness in her throat, "I'll go talk to Terry."
"Victoria, are you still asleep? Whose man is Terry? He's Martin's man! If talking to Terry worked, I would have done it for you already. Terry said Martin's orders are that no one is allowed to rashly resume your father's medication! This time he wants your father's life, don't you understand?" Aria cried, softening her tone, "Victoria, Mom knows you're wronged. Mom is even more wronged than you. The Gonzalez family has always been powerful. When have we ever suffered like this?"
"Victoria, go find Martin, okay?"
Victoria laughed bitterly. Right now, Martin wanted to kill her when he saw her.
Would going to find him help?
No use.
Victoria murmured, "It's no use. If I go find him, Dad will die even faster."
"How exactly did you upset him? Victoria, you need to think clearly. Now is not the time for you to throw tantrums! Your father and I only have you as our daughter. If something happens to your father, who will care if not you? You need to know that what happened to your father and me today is all because of you!"
Aria roared, "How do you know it won't work if you don't try? Go find Martin. Is it so hard to say some nice words and beg him?"
Every time Aria called her, Victoria felt so oppressed, so suffocated.
Aria kept reminding her that the Gonzalez family was like this, Hayden was like this, all because of her!
She couldn't escape, couldn't avoid responsibility!
But Victoria couldn't blame Aria for being selfish either, because Aria was telling the truth. It was her choices that led to today's situation.
Perhaps death was the final release.
At least she had a terminal illness, at least her days were numbered.
"Okay, I'll go beg Martin right now." Victoria said numbly, hung up the phone. Warm tears fell onto the phone screen, silently flowing to the ground.
