Chapter 188
If there was time to wait, why would Martin have taken wedding photos with Mia on the very day she was diagnosed with terminal cancer?
How could he have indulged Mia, letting her try to kill her again and again?
How could he have crushed the voice recorder Tamsin sent her without even wanting to listen to it?
So Martin had been wishing for her death all along.
Victoria was now very certain of this cruel truth, but seeing him so intimate with Mia still bothered her.
Her heart still ached.
A few days ago, when he forced her to apologize to Mia, she stood outside the hospital room and saw him and Mia embracing, unable to let go of each other.
Victoria pressed her lips together, her slender fingers touching the glass window.
A chill passed through her fingertips and crept into her body.
Her limbs instantly turned ice cold, without a trace of warmth.
Victoria swallowed.
She heard Aaron ask uneasily, "Ms. Gonzalez, are you—"
Of course, Aaron had also seen Martin and Mia drinking and chatting.
He moved his lips, not knowing how to comfort her.
Victoria knew what he wanted to say. Even though he didn't say it, she understood.
She forced a smile at the corner of her mouth, turned around, and quickly walked away.
She was afraid Martin and Mia would see her outside the window. She didn't want to be discovered, didn't want to be seen as a pathetic fool!
Aaron followed Victoria and left.
Inside the bar.
Martin paused for a long while without speaking.
Mia asked with a smile, "You're not doing well, are you?"
Martin felt bitter inside. Of course he wasn't doing well.
In fact, he was doing terribly.
All his dreams for the future had shattered.
The baby was gone, and his future with Victoria was gone too.
Martin picked up the wine glass on the table, finished the last of the wine, then put down the glass, "I'm heading back. You should go home early too."
"You've been drinking. Let me take you home." Mia instinctively reached out to support him.
But he avoided her like the plague, subtly dodging her support, "You've been drinking too. I texted Brian, he'll be here soon to pick me up."
"Martin, we're still friends. Don't you trust me? Do you think if I take you home, I'll take advantage of you?" Mia laughed bitterly. Why was Martin so guarded against her now?
As if his thoughts had been exposed, he looked away and said, "You're overthinking it. I'm a married man now. Being with you would be bad for your reputation."
"I don't care."
"But I do."
"Are you afraid Victoria will misunderstand? She's your enemy's daughter." Mia's fingers dug into her palm as she said in shock.
Victoria had even miscarried, and Martin was still being so considerate of her?
Martin's expression darkened, "As long as Victoria hasn't divorced me, she's still my wife. Show her some respect."
Then he grabbed his car keys and stumbled out of the bar.
Mia soon saw Martin being picked up by Brian.
Martin was ridiculous. He had already made a move against Hayden, yet he was telling her to respect Victoria?
Mia forcibly suppressed the anger and jealousy in her heart. It's fine. As long as Hayden dies, Victoria will definitely break with Martin!
She knew Victoria's personality too well. Once Hayden, her weak spot, was gone, all the conflicts between Victoria and Martin would explode!
By then, even if Martin wanted to continue the marriage, Victoria wouldn't agree!
She just needed to wait for Hayden to die from Martin cutting off his medication!
In the black Bentley.
Martin sat in the back seat, his head a bit dizzy from drinking.
But his gaze was still cold.
"Isn't that Mrs. Collins?" Brian exclaimed.
Martin looked out the car window following the sound.
Victoria and Aaron were walking side by side on the street. Aaron seemed to be saying something to her, and she was listening carefully.
Martin felt irritated.
No wonder she didn't care about that child—she still hadn't broken up with Aaron.
Martin closed the car window, his expression even more frightening.
Back at the apartment.
Brian helped him upstairs, then Martin sent Brian away.
Then Martin changed the apartment door code and deleted all of Victoria's fingerprints.
A woman like that didn't deserve to come to his home anymore!
Didn't deserve to appear here anymore!
After changing the code, Martin, his face flushed and reeking of alcohol, stumbled upstairs.
When the myna bird saw Martin return, its eyes lit up immediately. It hopped around in its cage, shouting at the top of its lungs, "Victoria used to like Martin! Now Victoria doesn't like Martin anymore!"
"Victoria won't have babies for Martin!"
The myna bird's voice and tone were just like Victoria's.
Rage surged from his heart.
Martin grabbed a water glass and smashed it on the ground, "Shut up!"
"Martin is ungrateful!"
"Martin is a bastard!"
"Martin is shameless!"
The myna bird seemed stimulated, flapping its wings and shouting.
Martin's face grew even darker. Was this what Victoria had been teaching this little beast?
Not a single good word.
Even it knew Victoria wouldn't have babies for him.
Even it knew Victoria didn't like him anymore.
Victoria had changed!
Only he was foolish, foolishly believing her words.
Martin swept all the items off the table, "Shut up! I said shut up!"
Everything fell to the ground.
The sharp sounds made Martin laugh bitterly.
Perhaps his manner had frightened the myna bird.
The myna bird immediately shut up and even quietly changed its tune, "Victoria likes Martin."
Even an animal knew when to back down, could read his mood.
Why didn't Victoria understand?
He had warned her so many times, he had been patient with her so many times.
Yet she still did as she pleased, not caring about his feelings at all!
Martin slumped onto the sofa, smoking cigarette after cigarette.
Victoria didn't return to the apartment.
She was deliberately avoiding Martin.
Things between them had gotten to this point. If she went to the apartment, they would only fight more fiercely.
Besides, she had just seen him drinking with Mia.
Most likely, he wouldn't come back, or he would bring Mia back.
She wouldn't go looking for that trouble.
Aaron walked Victoria back to the Gonzalez Villa.
At the entrance of the Gonzalez Villa, Victoria said gratefully, "Mr. Hill, thank you for walking me back. I'm home now, you can go."
"Ms. Gonzalez, have you thought about what I asked you to consider?" Aaron suddenly asked.
Victoria thought he was talking about the job offer and declined, "Mr. Hill, I don't want to work right now. Thank you for your kindness."
"I'm asking about accepting the liver transplant. I'm looking for a suitable liver for you. There should be news soon. If the match is successful, you can survive. Ms. Gonzalez, life is precious. Don't give up." Aaron said gently.
All this time, Aaron was the first person to tell her not to give up, to live well!
They weren't related, just strangers who had met a few times. Victoria's feelings suddenly became very complicated—both grateful and ironic.
The sky suddenly began to snow. Victoria stretched out her palm. A snowflake fell on it and quickly disappeared. She murmured, "This winter has been unprecedentedly long."
"Hold on a little longer. Winter is almost over. Spring will come soon." Aaron's words had a double meaning—spring wasn't just the season, and winter was the same.
Victoria understood his comfort. Her throat moved, and she said in a daze, "I might not make it to spring."
