Chapter 176
Victoria had cried herself out, then picked up her phone to check the time.
Ten minutes had already passed.
Martin still hadn't come out!
Victoria got up from the bench and walked to the hospital room door.
Through the glass window in the door, she saw Mia throw herself into Martin's arms.
Afraid of misunderstanding Martin, Victoria watched for several more seconds.
But Mia saw her. Whether it was intentional or not, Mia's face was covered in tears, crying pitifully, saying something Victoria couldn't hear.
And Martin had a complicated expression on his face, not pushing her away!
Victoria smiled bitterly. She understood now, understood everything.
No wonder he hadn't come out for so long—he was hugging Mia.
So would he only come out after they were done?
How tactless of her, waiting just because he told her to.
Victoria, where's your self-respect, where's your dignity?
He's hurt you this badly, and you still believe what he says?
Victoria felt both angry and sad. She fled down the hospital corridor on her long legs wrapped in black leggings and left in the elevator.
Inside the hospital room.
Martin pried her fingers off from around his waist, tucked the blanket back around her, his expression somewhat displeased, "Mia, I'm married now. What you just did was very inappropriate. I hope you won't do that again."
"I almost fell just now, that's why I grabbed onto you. Don't you believe me?" Mia said, about to cry again.
Martin hated it most when she cried. When she cried, he felt annoyed and wanted her to shut up.
But since Victoria was the one who did wrong, he couldn't act that way.
He said coldly, "I believe you. Victoria apologized to you, can you let it go now?"
"I forgive her. Don't worry." Mia reached up with her fingers and slowly wiped away the tear tracks on her face. The whole process was both sad and beautiful. She laughed through her tears, "Martin, I really envy her. Even though she's your mortal enemy, you still protect her like this. You treat her so well. Sometimes I have to admit, people's fates are really so different. I've given you so much, but I still can't compare to her."
Martin felt somewhat guilty and was about to speak.
She smiled and interrupted, "No need to say anything, Martin. You know I'm not the type to be tactless. I promised you something, and I'll do it. From now on, I'm going to let go of the fact that she ruined my face completely. I won't hold it against her anymore. Martin, you need to remember, I'm letting her off because of you."
"Go find her. She was already unwilling when she apologized to me just now. She's a high-and-mighty rich young lady—how could she apologize to me? Go comfort her. I'm already very satisfied that you brought her here to apologize to me today."
"Of course, I've also come to terms with it. You proposed being friends with me, and I accept that now. I really like you, but you have another woman in your heart, so you're not good enough for me. Go on, Martin."
Seeing Mia being so generous and understanding, the guilt in Martin's eyes grew deeper, "Mia, whenever you need my help in the future, I'll help you. Just think of me as your friend. You can come to me for help with anything."
"Okay, then I wish you and Victoria a good life together."
Mia deliberately put on an act of holding back her sadness, her tears on the verge of falling, "Please leave quickly, Martin. If you leave too late, I'm worried I'll change my mind, regret this, and won't be able to bear not being your wife. Making this decision really took a lot of determination."
Since Mia had said this much, Martin didn't stay any longer.
He wasn't blind—he saw how unhappy Victoria was when she apologized. He needed to go after Victoria!
Martin left quickly, not even sparing Mia an extra glance.
Mia watched his back getting farther and farther away until it disappeared.
Martin, how could I be content with just being your friend?
I stole Victoria's credit for helping you and came to your side—from the beginning, it wasn't to be friends!
I've been patient and putting on an act for so many years—how could I end up as just a friend!
Mia pulled at the corners of her mouth viciously. What she wanted wasn't just Martin, but the entire Gonzalez family fortune, the Gonzalez Group!
In the beginning, her devotion to Martin was to get a high return, but most importantly, to get revenge on Victoria. As long as Victoria could fall from her high position, she'd be happy!
So she helped Martin with his revenge largely out of jealousy toward Victoria, wanting to see Victoria suffer!
Now Martin had developed real feelings for Victoria—this was what she least wanted to see!
Given time, Martin and everything belonging to the Gonzalez family would all be hers, Mia's.
Suddenly the hospital room door closed, and the sound of dress shoes scraping against the floor could be heard.
Before Mia could look up, a large hand touched her chin.
"He's already gone, and you're still not done looking?"
Mia looked up to see Terry in his white coat, pursing his lips as he leaned toward her.
A wave of disgust made Mia want to dodge.
But her head was held in place by his large hand, forcing her to kiss him.
Mia pushed him away irritably, "This is a hospital, right under Martin's nose. Are you crazy?"
"If you're in a bad mood, do some exercise with me and you'll feel better."
"Get away from me."
"I have a little secret about Victoria. Don't you want to know?" Terry smiled and leaned close to her ear, whispering, "Victoria not only has terminal liver cancer, but also severe depression. Depression will only make her die faster. Why are you bothering with someone who has depression and is about to die?"
"Really?"
"Absolutely true, Martin just doesn't know. Victoria, I've missed you so much." Terry's large hand slid urgently through her striped hospital gown, groping and squeezing.
Thinking about how much she had given only to be treated and rejected by Martin like that, Mia felt so unfair! Martin, do you think no one wants me?
Every time you make me angry, I cheat on you, and in the end you'll still be manipulated by me into marrying me.
Thinking of her revenge, Mia felt extremely satisfied. She actively offered her lips and engaged in deep communication with Terry.
Downstairs at the hospital.
Right at the bus stop.
It was very, very cold today, and it had started snowing heavily. Victoria had been waiting in the cold wind for a taxi for a long time.
Strangely, there used to be many taxis, but today there wasn't a single one.
No buses either.
Although Victoria was wearing snow boots that were supposed to be very warm with lots of fur, and her socks were very thick, standing for so long had made the soles of her feet stiff and numb.
Her nose was red and sore from the cold.
Her fingers were already numb. She breathed out puffs of warm air.
A black Bentley came speeding up and stopped in front of Victoria. She didn't notice until she heard a sharp, piercing honk, and only then did she look up in a daze.
Under the orange car lights was a license plate number etched in her memory.
This was Martin's car!
