Chapter 145
Martin sneered, "I don't need to listen to it. I know you faked it!"
"Is this what you think of me?" Victoria's eyes widened, her heart aching so much she could barely breathe.
When they got married, he said he would always trust her, that couples should trust each other. Were all those promises just empty words?
Martin narrowed his eyes. "I've given you enough, Victoria. Have the baby in your belly, and then we'll go our separate ways. You can be with whoever you want."
Last night, he had figured it out. This Victoria was no longer the bright and kind Victoria he remembered. He only wanted their child, and then they would completely separate.
End this relationship that was wrong from the start.
"Martin! I'm telling you one more time, everything I just said is true!" Victoria growled. "What will it take for you to believe me!"
He looked at her for a long moment, then smiled. "So what if it's true?"
"What did you say!?"
"Even if it's true, you can't touch Mia! Victoria, if you're smart, stay away from her! Between you and Mia, I'll always protect her!" Martin blurted out, then let go of her, stood up, and coldly turned to leave.
He had known Mia for so many years. He knew better than anyone what kind of person she was.
Without Mia, he would have died in the orphanage long ago.
Victoria picked up the voice recorder from the ground, now broken into pieces, tears streaming down her face.
After leaving the Gonzalez Group, Victoria walked aimlessly down the street.
He had made himself so clear. What was she still hoping for?
When crossing the street, she looked up and saw through the window of a restaurant across the way.
By the window sat Martin and Mia.
He was intimately serving her food, his gaze so gentle!
He used to treat her the same way, until Hayden fell down the stairs and developed dementia. Then everything changed.
Victoria felt like countless steel needles were piercing her eyeballs.
The pain was unbearable.
She had run out of painkillers. She went to the hospital to get more.
When the attending doctor saw her, he frowned deeply. "Ms. Gonzalez, are you really not going to have an abortion? If you don't terminate soon, it'll be too late!"
Victoria pressed her lips together, looking at her belly hidden under her puffy down jacket.
She knew everything he was saying, but she had no choice.
The contract was signed, the benefits received. There was no turning back.
"Doctor, please prescribe me a few more bottles of painkillers. Thank you."
"You're all being ridiculous!" The doctor sighed, looking at Victoria with a complicated expression. "According to your physical examination just now, the cancer cells have spread to two-thirds of your body. The previous painkillers won't work anymore. I'll prescribe you the strongest ones."
"Okay." Victoria smiled.
The fake smile on her face was exhausting to maintain.
The doctor prescribed her ten bottles of painkillers, with each dose being half a bottle.
Victoria took the medicine and returned to her apartment.
Kaida gave her a pile of medications, saying Brian had sent them to help the baby in her belly grow healthy.
Victoria showed no expression and, in front of Kaida, took all the pregnancy-supporting medicine.
But Victoria's sleep was getting worse and worse.
The first few days, she fell asleep at 3 AM.
She could still sleep for two hours.
A week later, Victoria couldn't sleep at all.
During the day she was so tired, her eyelids felt like they were weighted with lead, but she had no sleepiness at all.
At night, she could only stare at the ceiling, waiting for dawn.
Unable to sleep, she felt anxious and panicked, tears streaming down her face.
Victoria felt she wasn't normal anymore!
She hadn't slept for ten whole days!
Victoria sadly realized she couldn't even find a friend to talk to!
Finally, she called Martin.
But it was Mia who answered. "Victoria, Martin's already asleep. Don't call anymore. Whatever it is, talk about it tomorrow."
Then the phone was hung up.
So he was resting at Mia's place!
Victoria curled up under her blanket and cried.
When Kaida passed by her room, she heard the crying from inside and looked worried. Why had Victoria been crying so much lately?
Taking out her phone, Kaida found Martin's number, hesitating whether to report this to him.
The Wilson Villa.
Martin came over with a glass of water and saw Mia guiltily putting down his charging phone.
"Who told you to touch my phone?"
Martin's face showed clear displeasure.
Mia had already deleted the call log and lied, "I was checking the time. Martin, thank you for bringing me back."
Then she handed the phone to Martin.
Martin opened his phone and looked. Indeed, there was no call log.
"Mia, I think you should try meeting other men. If you meet someone suitable, get married. You're not young anymore."
At these words, Mia was stunned. "Martin, don't you want to divorce anymore?"
She had waited so many years. Was he backing out?
"Actually, I don't love you, and you know it. Even if I married you, it would only be to repay you for supporting me. Couples need love to last. You can think about my suggestion. However much money you want, I can provide it."
"But you don't love Victoria either, and you've gotten through these past few years, haven't you?" Mia bit her lip.
Martin thought for a moment, his eyes showing fatigue. "You and she are different. Think it over carefully. When you've decided, give me your answer. Maybe we'll have a longer relationship as siblings."
"Okay, I'll find you when I've thought it through." Mia forcibly suppressed the collapse in her heart, wearing a gracious and elegant smile.
Martin turned and left the Wilson Villa.
At that moment, Kaida's call came through.
He looked at Kaida's name jumping on his phone screen. Actually, he didn't want to answer.
Victoria had disappointed him so much!
Victoria didn't know that he had broken his bottom line again and again.
Just as he was about to hang up, he hesitated.
Kaida rarely called this late unless it was urgent.
Martin was worried about Victoria after all, so he answered Kaida's call.
"Mr. Collins, maybe you should come back and check on Ms. Gonzalez. Her condition seems really off." Kaida's worried voice came through.
Martin looked at the snow flying all over the sky. "What's wrong with her?"
"Ms. Gonzalez was just crying in her bedroom. These past few days she's been spacing out, not talking, listless about everything. Her sleep doesn't seem very good."
Martin hung up without saying whether he would come or not.
Kaida thought he wasn't coming and sighed.
More than ten minutes later.
Kaida heard the sound of a car engine stopping, and a beam of white light shone on the second-floor living room window.
She hurried downstairs to the apartment entrance.
She saw the black Bentley parked at the door. The car door opened, and Martin, wearing a black round hat and dressed all in black, got out.
His face was expressionless, his whole body radiating an air of authority.
"Has Victoria's sleep been bad these past few days?" Martin entered the apartment urgently, asking in a low voice.
