Chapter 125
Victoria pressed her lips together.
Martin leaned against the doorframe, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. He looked to be in a good mood.
Was he this happy just hearing that she would make his wish come true?
"Anyway, I won't let you down." Victoria shifted her gaze to the half-peeled potato in her hands. Her condition had already worsened. Before long, Victoria would completely and utterly disappear from this world.
At her funeral, he would probably laugh out loud with relief, finally having wished her dead.
"What wish did you make?" Martin was quite satisfied with her answer and couldn't help asking another question.
Victoria blinked. "If I tell you, it won't come true."
Martin, the wish I made was for my family to be safe and well. I hope Martin lives a long life, lets go of his hatred, and never frowns again.
You want me dead, but I don't want you to die. Even though you torture me like this, send Tamsin to kill me, prepare a coffin for me. I still can't bear for you to die.
Because even now, I still love you despite myself, Martin.
Victoria watched Martin put down his glass and turn to leave, screaming silently in her heart.
The moment he turned away, a trace of relief appeared on Martin's face.
Actually, the wish he made was to have a child with Victoria. As the child grew strong and healthy, with time, he might be able to let go of his hatred and return with her to the happiness they had a year ago.
From that little test just now, Martin felt more reassured—she still liked him, she still wanted to have his child. How could Victoria, who was so obsessed with him, suddenly stop liking him?
The hardest thing for people to control is their emotions, isn't it?
Just like him, he had originally planned to hate her, to torture her, but he gradually discovered that hatred exhausted him, hollowed him out completely.
He began to miss the days before Hayden's accident. Back then, he and Victoria were so in love.
The next morning.
Victoria got up very early and busied herself in the kitchen.
When Martin got up, he saw the steaming hot breakfast on the table.
The previously cold and empty apartment seemed to have the feeling of a home.
"Mr. Collins, hurry and wash up, let's have breakfast." After setting out the dishes, Victoria pulled out a chair for him.
He remained cold and indifferent. After washing up, he sat in the chair, picked up his breakfast, and started eating.
Victoria didn't initiate conversation either. Her phone on the table rang.
She glanced at it. It was a WhatsApp message from the doctor, "Come at 9 AM sharp for the abortion procedure. I've arranged everything on my end."
"Your body can't be delayed any longer. Remember that."
Victoria pressed her lips together, gripping her phone, her emotions complicated as she replied with an okay.
"Who's messaging you?" Martin noticed her expression and asked coldly.
Victoria turned off her phone and lied, "My mom said my dad's recovery isn't going well."
She thought he would gloat, but after a moment, he said, "You don't need to go to the office these next few days. Focus on taking care of your health first."
At these words, Victoria was somewhat shocked. This was the first time Martin had shown such concern for her, been so considerate, and even given her a few days off.
It must be because of her answer last night. He was very satisfied with it.
After the abortion, she would need to recuperate. She really did need rest.
Victoria took a sip of milk. "Thank you, Mr. Collins."
"Just follow through on what you said last night."
Martin's real meaning was for her to have his child.
He thought she understood.
But Victoria misunderstood, "I will do as you wish, Martin."
No matter how much she feared death, she couldn't escape it this time.
Even without your reminder and eager anticipation, Victoria would still be heading toward the end of her life.
Her only remaining value now was to help the Gonzalez family, to secure the greatest benefits for her parents.
Martin didn't say more. After finishing breakfast, he changed into a business suit, put on his watch, sat on the shoe-changing bench in the entryway, slipped on the black leather shoes Victoria had polished to a shine, picked up his briefcase, and headed downstairs to the office.
After breakfast, Victoria washed the dishes in the kitchen. After cleaning up the house, she carried the trash bag downstairs to throw it away, then took a taxi to the hospital.
Before going to the hospital, she carried a backpack containing a water bottle, towel, and change of clothes. After the abortion, she would need to recuperate at the hospital.
She needed to find an excuse to fool Martin.
When she arrived at the hospital, the doctor breathed a sigh of relief seeing her, "Ms. Gonzalez, you finally came. I thought you weren't coming today."
"How could that be? My body won't allow me to delay any longer, right?" Victoria smiled bitterly.
The doctor gave her a procedure form and told her to go to the payment window on the first floor of the outpatient building.
Victoria took the form and rode the elevator downstairs.
There was a very long line at the payment window in the outpatient building lobby.
She waited a full twenty minutes before it was her turn.
After paying, she followed the directions on the receipt to the abortion room.
Another line.
The benches were full of people.
All young women.
These days, there were too many people getting abortions.
Some had boyfriends with them, some had family members.
There was even a middle-aged woman covering her mouth crying, scolding her daughter for not being careful, getting tricked by a scumbag, getting pregnant, only for the scumbag's family to deny everything.
She could only bring her daughter here for an abortion.
Seeing them, Victoria thought of Tamsin.
Tamsin had also been deceived by a scumbag for money and sex, but Tamsin's pregnancy was too far along—she had missed the window for abortion.
The middle-aged woman next to her struck up a conversation with Victoria, "You're getting an abortion—why didn't your husband come with you?"
"He's busy." Victoria pressed her lips together.
The woman frowned, indignant. "He should still be here with you. Getting pregnant isn't just your responsibility."
Victoria didn't respond.
"Why are you getting an abortion? You look young, this is the best time for having children." The woman gossiped.
Victoria smiled bitterly. "Because I'm sick. My body won't allow it."
"You poor thing." The woman looked at her sympathetically, then sighed. "In this life, everyone has their own suffering, their own difficulties. Who isn't pitiable?"
Victoria deeply related to those words.
Victoria wore a very thick down jacket that looked bulky.
Her stomach didn't show the pregnancy at all.
Thinking of the child that hadn't been born yet, about to be turned into mush, Victoria felt extremely depressed. Touching her belly, she murmured in her heart, Baby, mommy is useless. Before you could be born and open your eyes to see this world, mommy has to abort you with her own hands. If there's another life, will you come back to mommy's belly? Mommy will make it up to you and give you all her love. The road to the afterlife is long and dark, but don't be afraid—mommy will come find you very soon.
Mia, just passing by the entrance area, spotted Victoria sitting on the bench outside the abortion room at a glance. Victoria was spacing out, looking completely sorrowful, so she didn't notice Mia's presence.
Mia clenched her fists in jealousy. That bitch Victoria was pregnant?
She had been by Martin's side all these years and he never touched her once. Victoria was Martin's enemy's daughter, and she could get pregnant?
Wait, that's not right. If Victoria was pregnant with Martin's child, why would she secretly abort it? Did Victoria cheat, or was Martin forcing her to get an abortion?
Mia took out her phone, found Martin's number, and called him.
