Chapter 116
He was worried that Victoria hadn't eaten on time and might have a hypoglycemic episode, but here she was, flirting with men!
Martin couldn't quite describe the feeling in his heart - angry, irritated, and annoyed at how the two of them looked standing together.
The lunch box in his hand was suddenly thrown into a nearby trash can. He strode forward, blocking Victoria behind him, squinting his eyes and looking at Aaron across from him with displeasure: "Officer Hill, you really have some special tastes - even a business collaboration turns into a date with a married woman?"
As soon as these words came out, the tension became explosive.
"Martin, what nonsense are you talking about? Officer Hill and I just ran into each other by chance." Victoria couldn't help but explain.
If it hadn't been for Aaron's candy earlier, she would have already passed out.
Why did Martin have to speak so harshly!
Victoria's explanation sounded like covering up and guilt to Martin's ears.
He turned his head, casting a cold glance at Victoria: "If you don't speak, nobody will think you're mute."
"So this is how Mr. Collins treats his wife? Without even basic respect?" Aaron spoke slowly, a gentle smile on his lips.
The words were particularly grating.
Martin stared at Aaron, then heard him continue: "I was asking Ms. Gonzalez, not you."
Aaron's kind gaze fell on Victoria behind Martin: "Ms. Gonzalez, would you like to come to the Hill Group? Secretary work would suit you better."
This was undoubtedly poaching right in front of Martin.
Martin suddenly pulled Victoria into his arms.
Victoria was full of resistance, instinctively wanting to struggle.
"Think carefully before you answer, Victoria. If you want your father's medical expenses, you'd better behave!" Martin leaned close to her ear, his lips curving ambiguously.
His voice was so low that only the two of them could hear it.
To outsiders, this gesture looked like showing off their affection.
Hearing these words, Victoria's originally clenched fists gradually relaxed.
Even without Martin's threat, she couldn't possibly go to the Hill Group. Because only she knew just how much of a scumbag Martin really was.
She couldn't be so selfish as to drag Aaron into this.
"Officer Hill, I'm doing great here, you don't need to worry. Working as a cleaner is just because I was too bored and wanted to experience life - it has nothing to do with Martin." Victoria tried hard to show a happy smile, looking at Aaron with particular gratitude.
Martin tightened his grip on her, the force surprisingly strong, not allowing her to move at all.
"Officer Hill, did you hear that? Mind your own business from now on." Martin said, then scooped Victoria up and quickly walked to the storage room.
The storage room door was locked from inside.
Victoria was roughly thrown by Martin.
Her whole body hit the ground, the pain making her feel like her bones were falling apart, and tears fell uncontrollably.
Victoria's chin was suddenly gripped by his watch-wearing hand, the force so strong her jaw nearly dislocated.
"I brought you here not to flirt with men and find a backup plan. Victoria, the contract states clearly that after the divorce, you can't get married or date anyone. Your fate is to die alone."
"Stop putting on this pitiful act with teary eyes. I'm not falling for it."
"Two buildings - if you don't finish cleaning them today, no food, no going home!"
Martin slammed the door and left.
Victoria's body trembled violently with the sound of the slamming door.
She had no time to feel wronged, no time to cry. She had to obey, because only if she obeyed could she get Hayden's medical expenses.
Wiping away her tears, she continued cleaning the office building.
Two whole buildings - she cleaned until 1 AM.
Victoria was so exhausted her legs were shaking, her stomach was growling, but she still had to keep going.
By the time she finished cleaning everything, it was already 2 AM.
Dragging her exhausted body, she had just walked out of the Gonzalez Group building.
The cold air hit her face.
Victoria had planned to go to a convenience store to buy instant noodles.
Just then, a black Bentley stopped in front of her.
The car door opened, and Martin, sitting in the passenger seat with a cold face, said: "Get in."
"No need to trouble Mr. Collins, I'll take a cab myself."
Victoria smiled bitterly. She knew that if she got in Martin's car, he would mock her again and speak harshly to her.
She was too tired today. She didn't want to hear it.
Victoria was about to turn around when a cold snort came from behind her, the tone threatening: "Have you forgotten what's in the contract? Victoria, I'm still waiting for you to come back and make me a late-night snack!"
At these words, her steps immediately stopped. She had thought Martin came to pick her up, worried about her safety as a woman going home alone.
Turns out he wanted her to come back and make him a snack.
She hadn't even eaten lunch, and he was having a late-night snack.
But Victoria didn't want to argue. Cold and hungry, she didn't even have the energy to fight.
She forcefully suppressed the bitterness in her heart and turned toward the black Bentley.
Victoria had just reached the Bentley and was about to get in when suddenly everything went black. Before fainting, she had a hallucination - she saw Martin getting out of the car and rushing toward her.
She saw his nervous, shocked expression.
She saw Martin pull her into his arms and carry her into the car.
How ridiculous - Martin hated her so much he wished she would drop dead immediately, yet she was having such fake fantasies, as false as soap bubbles.
Martin drove like crazy to get Victoria to the hospital.
The doctor who examined Victoria happened to be her attending physician.
The doctor checked her body - the cancer cells had already spread throughout her liver. Her body was completely deteriorating.
The spread of her condition was inseparable from her pregnancy.
The doctor's hesitant expression made Martin increasingly irritable.
Wasn't it just fainting from low blood sugar?
"There's nothing seriously wrong with her body, right?" Martin tugged at his tie and asked.
The doctor smiled bitterly. How could there be nothing wrong? She didn't have much time left, and she was pregnant too.
But he remembered Victoria had asked him to keep it secret. She said her father was also in this hospital, she didn't want her family to worry, and she was getting divorced.
"Nothing serious, just a bit of low blood sugar. She fainted from hunger. Her body is very weak and needs nutritional supplements." The doctor emphasized: "You're her friend, right?"
Martin hesitated.
"You need to take good care of her. How can someone faint from hunger in today's society? I really don't understand." The doctor sighed: "Let her stay in the hospital for observation for a few days."
Martin handled Victoria's hospital admission, but he still sensed something was off. If Victoria was fine, why did the doctor look so serious?
Victoria was wheeled to a hospital room and put on an IV drip. The doctor gave him instructions about dietary care for the patient.
As the doctor was about to leave the room, Martin blocked his way, looking at him searchingly: "Is my wife's body really okay?"
"You're Ms. Gonzalez's husband?" The doctor's eyelid twitched. Then he really needed to tell him about Victoria's cancer!
