Chapter 48 A Stunning Entrance
Chapter 48 A Stunning Entrance
A week flew by in the blink of an eye, and on the day of the investment conference, all the big names in chemistry showed up.
Even Arthur, who had recently made major investments in the chemistry field, was invited to attend.
He had just taken his seat with Jennifer when someone greeted them from behind: "Arthur, Jennifer, what a coincidence! I can't believe you're here too."
Arthur and Jennifer turned around to see Charlie and Gavin sitting behind them, along with several of Arthur's close friends.
Jennifer smiled and asked, "What are you guys doing here?"
Charlie grinned and said, "You know, Gavin and I both love chemistry, so we had to come to such an important event. As for them, some are here for business partnerships, and some just tagged along. After this is over, we're going out for drinks."
Jennifer nodded and said nothing more.
Gavin suddenly said, "By the way, doesn't Beatrice really like chemistry? Last time she even went to visit Mr. Morris. How come she's not here?"
Before Arthur could respond, someone nearby let out an exaggerated scoff: "Who are you talking about? Beatrice is just a housewife. Since when does she know anything about this stuff?"
After Gavin told them about running into Beatrice and Henry outside Sean's house last time, mocking and sarcastic comments filled the air.
"Beatrice actually went to visit Mr. Morris?"
"Didn't you hear Gavin say she went with Mr. Morris's nephew Henry? Maybe she's using the same tricks on Henry that she used on Arthur."
Their tone grew more and more contemptuous: "But seriously, why would Beatrice leave her housework and kids at home to go see Mr. Morris?"
"What else could it be? She's just jealous seeing Jennifer's successful career and being a chemistry genius. She wants to copy Jennifer."
Since Arthur usually treated Beatrice poorly, his friends looked down on her too, showing no respect in their words.
Hearing them put down Beatrice made Jennifer incredibly happy inside.
But seeing Arthur's unhappy expression, Jennifer's satisfaction instantly vanished, and she spoke up to stop them.
"Beatrice is Arthur's wife after all. You guys shouldn't always talk about her like this."
Hearing this, they awkwardly shut up.
"Jennifer, you're just too kind. We just can't stand how clueless Beatrice is."
"Beatrice works hard too. Even if it's just for Arthur's sake, you should show her a little respect."
Jennifer said this out loud, but inside she was thrilled.
At least Arthur's friends had good judgment and knew that bitch Beatrice couldn't compare to her at all.
Just as Jennifer was smugly thinking this, the big screen on stage lit up, and Beatrice's photo suddenly appeared before everyone.
Next to the photo was dense text that not only identified Beatrice as the main speaker for this event but also listed all the patents and awards she had received.
Each of these awards was extremely prestigious. For an ordinary person, getting just one would be worth bragging about for a lifetime, yet Beatrice had so many that the screen could barely fit them all.
Charlie and the others were the first to snap out of it. Looking completely different from when they were mocking Beatrice moments ago, they said in disbelief: "Isn't that Beatrice? How is she up there? And as the main speaker?"
Someone nearby who knew the situation said, "Are you guys even in this circle? Don't you know Beatrice is Mr. Morris's most outstanding student? What's so strange about her being up there?"
"How is that possible!"
Charlie and the others were completely stunned. Although they knew about Beatrice meeting Mr. Morris before, they never imagined Mr. Morris would take Beatrice as his student.
"Did Beatrice use Henry to get in?"
"That must be it! After all, everyone in the circle knows how high Mr. Morris's standards are."
Seeing that Charlie and the others didn't believe it and were even spreading rumors about Beatrice, the person sighed helplessly and patiently explained: "Are you kidding? Don't you know that years ago, when Beatrice first got into chemistry, she was called a once-in-a-century genius in the chemistry world?"
"Mr. Morris would be thrilled to have her as his student."
After this person finished speaking, Charlie and the others were all too shocked to speak.
After all, before this, Beatrice had been nothing but a worthless woman in their eyes.
"I really didn't expect Beatrice to be so amazing, even much more amazing than Jennifer."
"But if she's so outstanding, why has Arthur never liked her or even respected her all these years they've been married?"
The discussion from Charlie and the others behind them reached Arthur and Jennifer's ears. Jennifer's face darkened, her hands clenched into fists, her long nails digging hard into her palms.
Jennifer had been hoping Arthur would stand up for her like before and tell Charlie and the others that she was much better than Beatrice.
But Arthur seemed not to hear their discussion at all, his eyes fixed on the big screen on stage, filled with disbelief.
Although he now knew Beatrice had some achievements in chemistry, he never imagined she was this strong.
Seeing his attention completely on Beatrice, Jennifer felt even more upset.
That bitch Beatrice not only stole her man, but all the glory she had now should have been Jennifer's!
Even now, Jennifer firmly believed that if Beatrice hadn't secretly interfered, she would have successfully joined Sean's team by now.
And with her talent, she would definitely have stood out in the team and impressed Sean!
In Jennifer's view, all of Beatrice's honors today should have belonged to her!
But soon, she suddenly thought of something, and the anger and resentment in her eyes turned into a cold smile.
'Bitch, let's see how many more minutes you can be happy!' she thought to herself.
