Chapter 42 Drugged
Chapter 42 Drugged
When Beatrice and Marshall saw Arthur standing at the door with a cold face, they were both a bit surprised.
"Arthur, why did you come back?"
Based on Arthur's usual style, he would definitely spend tonight comforting Jennifer properly and absolutely wouldn't return to the estate.
Seeing that Beatrice showed no joy at his return, Arthur's expression darkened even more.
"What, are you disappointed that I came back?"
He actually saw through her!
Right now, Beatrice just wanted to have dinner with Marshall and Sloane. With Arthur here, she would feel uncomfortable.
Beatrice snapped back to reality and forced a slight smile: "No, I'm just a bit surprised based on your usual style."
Arthur was really annoyed by her. He didn't know when Beatrice had become so sharp-tongued, and what she said left him with no way to argue back.
In the past, whenever Jennifer was upset, he would always drop everything immediately to be with her, let alone something as trivial as having dinner with Beatrice tonight.
But this time, he was acting so out of character that even he was surprised. Although he still felt bad for Jennifer, after comforting her, he turned around and came back to the estate.
"What's so surprising about me staying to have dinner with Grandpa and Sloane?"
As Arthur spoke, he headed to the dining room first.
Dinner was quite lavish, with everyone's favorite dishes, but except for Marshall, everyone seemed distracted.
Beatrice now only felt uncomfortable facing Arthur, while Arthur was probably thinking about Jennifer and had no interest in dealing with her.
Beatrice originally wanted to talk more with Sloane, but Sloane was just like Arthur at the moment, with all her thoughts on Jennifer.
Although she had barely managed not to chase after Jennifer today, she was still extremely worried.
Jennifer had suffered such grievances today looking for her, yet here she was having dinner with Beatrice and Marshall!
The more Sloane thought about it, the guiltier she felt. She secretly glanced in Beatrice's direction, and seeing that Beatrice wasn't looking at her, she pulled out her phone from her pocket and sent Jennifer a message.
[Jennifer, thank you for coming to find me today. Don't be sad, I'll come keep you company after dinner with Great-grandpa.]
[I like you the most. I just haven't seen Mom in so long, and I was afraid Great-grandpa would get angry, that's why I didn't leave with you.]
Sloane racked her brains to explain, but seeing Jennifer didn't reply, she felt a bit down.
Because Beatrice was still there, she didn't dare message Jennifer too openly and quickly put her phone away.
But facing the lavish food in front of her, she had lost interest, occasionally taking out her phone to check if Jennifer had replied.
Little did she know that her every move was being watched by Beatrice. At first, Beatrice was worried Sloane would go hungry and served her some of her usual favorite dishes, but later, noticing Sloane's attention was entirely on her phone, she simply stopped bothering.
It seemed Sloane hadn't changed after all—she had just learned to put on a show. Deep down, she still cared most about Jennifer.
Beatrice smiled self-mockingly and ate her meal on her own, her mind full of laboratory matters.
Seeing the three people eating so distractedly, Marshall was both anxious and angry. He directly ordered: "Beatrice, Arthur, you're both staying tonight."
The two froze at his words. Realizing Marshall wanted them to sleep together tonight, Arthur frowned: "Grandpa, I have things to do tonight."
"I also have things at the lab."
After Beatrice spoke, Sloane beside her looked a bit hurt: "Mom, aren't you staying to keep me company tonight?"
She had missed Beatrice so much, and today she had even refrained from chasing after Jennifer for Beatrice's sake, which was why Jennifer still hadn't replied to her messages.
But despite all that, Beatrice had only focused on herself during dinner, barely paying attention to her, and now she was leaving for the night!
Beatrice was about to say something when Marshall interrupted: "If you two still listen to me, neither of you is leaving tonight! I don't believe there's anything that must be done tonight."
Seeing Marshall was serious, both Arthur and Beatrice stopped refusing.
After a moment of silence, Beatrice tentatively asked: "Grandpa, should I sleep with Sloane tonight then?"
"You and Arthur together."
Arthur: "I'll take my own room."
Marshall felt he'd be driven to death by them sooner or later: "You two have been married for so many years, your daughter is already this grown, what are you being shy about? I don't care what you're thinking—tonight you must share a room!"
Beatrice and Arthur couldn't win against Marshall. After dinner, one after the other, they returned to the room Marshall had specifically had prepared for them.
The room's lighting was dim, filled with a faint fragrance, creating an intimate atmosphere.
Beatrice felt a bit helpless, but fortunately, Arthur, like her, had shown no interest in her throughout their marriage. Nothing should happen between them tonight.
Right now, Beatrice just wanted this awkward night to pass quickly. She planned to find some pajamas, take a shower, and go to bed early.
But when she opened the closet door, she was stunned.
There were hardly any proper clothes in the closet—just sexy lingerie and the like. Wearing them would be worse than wearing nothing.
Seeing her standing motionless in front of the closet, Arthur glanced over and felt somewhat helpless too.
But looking at Beatrice with her earlobes turning red, he somehow suddenly felt like teasing her.
"What's wrong, can't find a style you like after looking for so long?"
Beatrice closed the closet door and sighed: "Forget it, I'll just go sleep with Sloane."
But when she reached the door and turned the handle, she was shocked to discover the bedroom door had been locked from the outside.
Beatrice's heart jumped. She was about to use force when she realized her wrist felt weak and powerless.
Her consciousness gradually became fuzzy, and a strange impulse emerged in her body.
When her eyes fell on the fragrance diffuser on the nearby table, Beatrice instantly understood everything.
To bring her and Arthur together, Marshall had really gone to great lengths.
Beatrice looked at Arthur with some concern. She could barely hold on, but Arthur was a man after all.
His breathing had obviously become heavier, and the way he looked at her was no longer as cold as before—hot with a hint of aggression.
As Beatrice turned around, preparing to knock on the door again, Arthur suddenly embraced her from behind. His broad arms wrapped around her entire body, and his chaotic breath instantly engulfed her.
