Chapter 37 How Much Did Beatrice Give for Him?

Chapter 37 How Much Did Beatrice Give for Him?

After leaving Jennifer's place, Arthur thought he had dismissed that inexplicable notion.

But somehow, this matter was like a thorn, deeply embedded in his heart.

Arthur really wanted to know whether this discarded draft that even Professor Jennifer praised so highly was actually written by Beatrice.

The more Arthur thought about it, the more agitated he became. He knew that even if he asked Calvin, Calvin would never tell him who the author was. So he simply used the excuse of helping Jennifer find a professional to examine the draft, and obtained the document from Jennifer.

Since Beatrice's winning proposal from the previous seminar was publicly available, Arthur quickly found that article online and began comparing it with the discarded draft in his hand, trying to find some similar clues.

Unfortunately, these professional academic documents all looked pretty much the same overall. Even if there were certain similarities, it couldn't prove they were written by the same person.

After looking for about an hour, Arthur's eyes felt a bit sore, so he simply gave up.

He suspected he was going crazy. As an outsider to the chemistry field, why was he so obsessed with this matter? Was it really that important to know who wrote this discarded draft?

Perhaps he just wanted to know how many secrets Beatrice still had that he didn't know about.

If she was really that capable, why had she spent all these years being a housewife, her whole life revolving around the family?

Could it be because of him?

While Arthur's mind was in turmoil, Jennifer wasn't idle either.

She had originally come to Oceancrest City full of confidence, but had suffered setbacks one after another.

These setbacks were different from the previous minor troubles - they had completely crushed her long-held confidence and her passion for chemistry.

Previously, when facing Beatrice, the reason she felt such a strong sense of superiority wasn't just because of Arthur's favoritism toward her. More importantly, it was because in her eyes, Beatrice was a worthless housewife, while she was an independent woman with countless admirers, and especially gifted in her beloved field of chemistry.

But everything that had happened recently was telling her that after Beatrice returned to her career, she was far more dazzling than Jennifer. The admirers around her were of higher quality than hers, and even her pride - her gift for chemistry - was being crushed by Beatrice.

In the end, the only thing she had over Beatrice was Arthur's favoritism and support.

And relying on a man was precisely the thing she had most despised about Beatrice.

The more Jennifer thought about it, the more upset she became. Yet there was nothing she could do about it. She was practically going crazy.

Arthur noticed something was off with her mood, but he'd been busy lately and couldn't spare much time to keep Jennifer company. So he simply gave her an unlimited credit card and told her to spend freely.

Jennifer's mood improved considerably. One day, while shopping extravagantly with Arthur's money at the mall, she accidentally ran into Beatrice shopping with another woman.

Jennifer quickly hid herself. When she saw Beatrice pick up a $200,000 bag without hesitation, her face instantly darkened.

When did Beatrice become so rich? Did she scam the money from those admirers of hers, or was she spending Arthur's money?

At this thought, Jennifer became even angrier.

In her view, although she hadn't married Arthur yet, it was only a matter of time.

Beatrice spending Arthur's money was the same as spending her money!

At this thought, Jennifer was furious and prepared to confront her. But she stopped in her tracks when she got a clear look at the girl beside Beatrice.

The girl looked somewhat familiar. She quickly remembered - this girl was one of Sean's students, named Melissa Saunders. Though young, she was considered a rare genius in the chemistry field. How could she be with Beatrice?

Jennifer secretly followed them for a while and soon figured out what was going on.

Melissa clearly looked like the type who devoted herself to research - a poor woman with no money. All their shopping expenses were paid by Beatrice. Before they parted, Beatrice even bought Melissa a dress she had liked but couldn't afford.

Jennifer scoffed. So that's how Beatrice got to hang out with all these important people in the chemistry world - she was using her old tricks to buy people's loyalty.

Jennifer could almost imagine the look on Beatrice's face when she bragged to these people about being Mrs. Capulet.

Only these lower-class women with no sophistication would be bought off by such small favors.

Jennifer thought disdainfully, but still followed in the direction Melissa had left.

"Hello, Miss Saunders, would you mind if I bought you a coffee?"

Melissa was stunned: "Who are you?"

"Someone who loves chemistry just like you. I saw in a magazine that you're Mr. Morris's student, so I wanted to buy you a coffee."

Jennifer pulled Melissa to a nearby café and asked casually: "Who was that woman shopping with you just now? Is she also Mr. Morris's student?"

"Yes."

Jennifer had only asked casually, but at these words she was so shocked she couldn't speak: "What did you say?!"

Beatrice was actually Mr. Morris's student? How could she be worthy?

Who knows how many men Beatrice had slept with behind Arthur's back to get into Sean's team.

She probably slept with everyone from Henry to Sean's male students, and maybe even Sean himself!

Jennifer thought viciously, feeling more and more disgusted.

"Beatrice is really amazing. What's wrong?"

Jennifer came back to her senses and saw Melissa looking at her with surprise. She realized her reaction had been too strong.

"Nothing, I just know that person too, so I was a bit surprised."

"So you and Beatrice are friends too."

Melissa didn't think much of it. Her eyes fell on the café's price list, looking a bit embarrassed: "The coffee here is so expensive. Are you really going to treat me?"

"Of course."

Seeing Melissa's poor appearance, Jennifer felt nothing but contempt.

Birds of a feather really do flock together. Just like Beatrice, she was something that couldn't be brought to the table!

Before today, she had been wondering what was wrong with that discarded draft, whether the gap between her and those geniuses in Sean's team was really that big.

Until this moment, she understood everything. It was all Beatrice's doing!

Maybe it wasn't a discarded draft at all, but something Calvin deliberately gave her to trick and discourage her, so she'd never have a chance to join Mr. Morris's team!

After figuring this out, Jennifer's expression grew darker and darker, and her voice turned cold: "Miss Saunders, you're short on money, aren't you?"

Melissa was startled: "Why do you ask?"

"I won't lie to you. Beatrice and I aren't friends at all. She's the mistress who seduced my husband."

"What?"

Melissa was stunned. She usually only knew to bury herself in experiments and never imagined that the gentle and aloof Beatrice had such a side.

Jennifer grabbed her hand: "Miss Saunders, I want to ask you to do me a favor. To show my sincerity, I can give you one million first. Once you complete it, I'll give you another five million!"
