Chapter 30 Everyone Turned On Him
Chapter 30 Everyone Turned On Him
Arthur was amused by Beatrice's words: "You think I can't bear to let you go?"
"Then stop dragging your feet. That's not your style."
Beatrice wasn't so full of herself to think Arthur had fallen in love with her. In her view, the reason he kept delaying the divorce was the same as Sloane—he just couldn't let go of how she used to take care of them so attentively.
"Arthur, if you really like Jennifer, divorcing sooner would give her an answer. Don't make me look down on you!"
After saying this, Beatrice wasn't going to deal with this mess anymore and turned to leave.
Arthur's face darkened, but he couldn't argue against what Beatrice said.
Having almost never handled Sloane's school matters, Arthur thought this was over, but the next day, the parents whose kids Sloane had hit showed up at the school together to make a scene.
He had to go to the school again. Facing those angry parents, Arthur grew impatient.
"How much? Name a reasonable price."
Arthur didn't want to waste words on things money could solve.
The troublemaking parents were stunned. They'd already heard from their kids that Sloane came from an unusual background.
Looking at Arthur, they knew he was definitely not ordinary. Faced with the temptation of money, some parents chose to compromise.
But the parent of the child Sloane had slapped wasn't having it: "Think money makes you so great? No wonder your kid looks down on people—you taught her that attitude!"
Sloane, who had been called to the office and had been silent for a while, got angry again seeing these people wouldn't let it go.
"Are you done yet? My dad's already offering money, what more do you want? I simply stated the truth. What's the problem?"
Sloane's words reignited the anger of the parents who had just calmed down.
"Aren't you something special," someone couldn't help but mock. "You think we don't know about your family's dirty laundry?"
"Looks like a decent guy, but he's just a scumbag who cheated on his wife and ran off with his mistress. Even the daughter got corrupted by the mistress—what a bad influence!"
"Don't talk about Jennifer like that!"
"You ungrateful girl, can't even tell your own mother from a homewrecker!"
"How can a husband and daughter be like this? The wife is so pitiful."
Everyone was piling on Arthur and Sloane, cursing them out.
Sloane was about to lose it from anger. Since childhood, she'd been pampered and coddled, never thinking she'd done anything wrong.
Being scolded by so many people for the first time, she couldn't help but cover her head and scream: "Shut up! All of you shut up!"
Jennifer wasn't a homewrecker, and she wasn't ungrateful! This was all Beatrice's fault—why were they cursing her and Jennifer?
Arthur felt uncomfortable too, but since Sloane was in the wrong first, he didn't want to argue with these people.
In the end, the matter was settled with money.
After Arthur brought Sloane home, she called Jennifer. Hearing Jennifer's voice, she couldn't help but cry.
"What's wrong, Sloane? What happened?"
After Sloane told Jennifer about today's events, Jennifer was also angry.
Those kids dared to call her a homewrecker!
However, learning from Sloane that Beatrice was determined to divorce Arthur, Jennifer felt all her recent suffering had been worth it.
Suppressing her excitement, Jennifer said gently: "Sloane, don't cry. Should I come see you and Dad?"
Sloane froze and didn't respond.
Before, if she'd heard Jennifer wanted to come, she would have happily agreed.
But now she oddly remembered Beatrice saying she wanted to divorce Arthur, and those parents calling her ungrateful and unable to tell her mother from a mistress. She suddenly went quiet.
While Sloane hesitated, Arthur grabbed the phone.
"Jennifer, we're fine here. You're busy with work, no need to make a special trip for such a small thing."
Because of Beatrice's words, Arthur's mind was in chaos, and he didn't really want to see Jennifer right now.
Especially after learning Jennifer had been instilling twisted values in Sloane.
Though Arthur had put it tactfully enough, Jennifer still caught his underlying meaning.
Arthur didn't want to see her! Not just Arthur—when she'd asked Sloane just now, she'd clearly gone silent too.
Jennifer felt a tightness in her chest.
When did Arthur and Sloane, who used to have eyes only for her, change?
Arthur sent Sloane back to the estate. When Marshall learned what happened at school, his face darkened.
Since Sloane had been sent to him, he'd tried his best to guide her, but now it seemed things were far more difficult than he'd imagined.
At such a young age, Sloane's values were already seriously twisted.
After much thought, Marshall hired a nanny who specialized in child psychology to accompany and educate Sloane, to guide her back to the right path.
"Grandpa, will this nanny work?"
Knowing Sloane's temperament, Arthur was worried.
"However it goes, it's better than leaving her with you," Marshall snorted. "Your character can't be fixed anymore. Once Sloane's values are corrected, sooner or later she'll understand that Beatrice is the best."
Mentioning Beatrice, Marshall couldn't help but sigh heavily, thinking Arthur and Sloane were foolish not to appreciate the good life they had.
Beatrice couldn't be bothered with how Arthur and Sloane were doing anymore and threw herself completely into the new closed experiment.
This team was different from Orion Global Research Institute—every member was handpicked by Sean, a one-in-a-million genius in chemistry.
At first, Beatrice worried she'd drag the team down. She worked day and night to catch up, studying the new knowledge she'd neglected over the years.
But in just over a month, through her own effort and talent, Beatrice solved a major difficulty in the experimental project, earning high recognition from her teammates.
After work one day, as Beatrice was about to head home, Ethan Hughes from the team suddenly called out to her.
Ethan was Sean's most accomplished student. Though only thirty, he was a leader in chemistry, winning countless awards, and was a key member of this new experimental team.
Beatrice had always respected him. Hearing him call her, she quickly stopped: "What is it?"
"A newly opened chemical company recently invited me to visit and provide guidance. Interested in coming along?"
Beatrice had heard of this new chemical company—it was opened by one of Sean's students.
Realizing this was an unprecedented learning opportunity for her, Beatrice quickly agreed: "I'd love to. Thank you, Ethan."
