Chapter 18: She Is Gone

Chapter 18: She Is Gone

Yvonne

"N.. nathan," I called nervously when his lips moved to my jaw, kissing me there but it looked like he didn't hear me.

"Nathan!" I called again and tapped his shoulder, he groaned and buried his face in my neck, sucking it and not stopping for a second. I closed my eyes and a moan escaped my lips but I heard my phone buzzing again.

"Nathan Kelvin, I am talking to you!" I yelled to get his attention and it worked. He looked up at me blankly with his eyes still dark with desire.

"Put me down, I need to pick up my call." I said seriously, he kept looking at me confused for a second before his eyes grew wide in shock like saucers.

"What the fuck!" He put me down and backed off immediately like he was burned.

I looked at him confused at his reaction again, he opened and closed his mouth several times but nothing came out of it. He ran his hand through his hair, looking frustrated. I decided to pick up my call before I demanded an answer from him. Picked up a bag on the floor and took out my phone.

"Where have you been, Yvonne? Why haven't you come back yet?" I heard my mother's voice as soon as I picked up the call.

"I will be there soon, mother." I said and hung up the call.

I turned to look at Nathan but I was shocked to see that he had left. What a jerk.

I went back home only to see my parents rushing out towards the car. My father looked at me before speaking.

"Clifford had a heart attack just now, we need to rush to the hospital."

"Oh my goodness, is he okay?" I covered my mouth in shock as I felt extreme worry for him.

"We don't know yet, let's go."

I drove back to the hospital in my parent's car and when we reached the lobby, Nathan was already there, sitting on the chair and cupping his head.

"What happened, how is he?" My father asked and he looked at him.

"Critical," he said and looked straight into my eyes.

There was an unreadable expression on his face but his eyes held hostility. Who does he think he is? I glared back at him not backing down. We glared at each other before he looked away first.

After a while, my grandpa came to the hospital as well and we stood there waiting for hours when the door opened and the doctor came out.

"How is he, doctor?" I asked as I rushed to him and all of them followed behind me.

"He is stable for now but you need to be careful not to stress him because it can be a threat to his life." The doctor said and looked at us one by one.

"Can I talk to you for a moment?" I heard Nathan ask as the doctor left. I didn't want to talk to him but I still nodded. We went to the garden area of the hospital and sat down on one of the benches there.

"Let's get married." He said flatly and I was dumbfounded.

"Have you gone crazy?" I asked coldly.

"You were the one who started this mess so take responsibility now." He glared at me.

"Excuse me? You were the one who made this mess because you couldn't calm yourself." I retorted.

"I wasn't the one who agreed on the marriage." He said sharply.

"Neither did I," I snapped back at him.

"Besides, how can you ask me to marry you when you don't even know my name?" I said flatly before I stood up and turned to leave.

"Yvonne Beckett." He said and I turned to look at him pointedly and he was smirking.

What is he trying to prove? I huffed before responding.

"My answer is still no, it will always be no. I don't go for loveless marriage and I don't understand why you even ask me such an absurd thing when you are in love with someone else?" I asked, looking at him weirdly.

Is he really like this? Talking about marriage like choosing what to eat for lunch? How did I fall for such a person. I was really stupid, a complete idiot.

"What are you talking about?" He asked, confused.

"I know you are in love with Sasha Carter." I said but my heart squeezed. He raised an eyebrow and just stared at me for a while before speaking again.

"I never said it will be a real marriage."

I looked at him bewildered and extreme anger surged within me. I really wanted to kill him instantly, I clenched my fist and took a deep breath to calm myself down. It was useless to talk to this lunatic, I turned to leave, intending not to continue this meaningless conversation. I took just a few steps when I heard his serious voice again.

"It is the last thing my grandpa said before he had a heart attack." I stopped in my tracks. He came forward and stood in front of me, gazing at me with a serious expression.

"I know how much you love and care for my grandpa and I know how he adores you as well. As you may already know, my grandpa is an extremely stubborn man and he will never stay put until he gets us married. I know that you didn't take him seriously when he talked about our marriage and you had nothing but good intentions towards him but he took it very seriously. Even if you go to him now and say that you want to marry me, which is an actual fact. He won't believe you and he will just think I forced you to say that."

He was right, I love grandpa Clifford like my own grandpa. He became a family to me since childhood and he has always been there for me whether I needed advice or life. School or work, he was always there. We even used to gossip together like friends because I never had any friend other than Samuel and Chichi. He was the closest person to me after my family, even Chichi and Samuel were after him. I thought for a while before speaking.

"Then we can tell him the truth, he is stubborn I know but he believes in love as well and as long as we can make him understand that you love someone and will marry her…"

"It won't work," he cut me off.

"Why do you think so? You haven't even tried yet, I will talk to him as well and you can bring Sasha to meet him. I am sure he will understand you." I said seriously.

"She is gone," he muttered.

"What?" I looked at him blankly.

"That she is gone, " he said, his eyes dull with complicated questions.

"Yvonne, I promise that this marriage won't affect your life in any way. You can live your life freely as you are living now. As my grandpa's health gets better and he will be strong enough to take the news, I will tell him the truth and we can divorce then." I just looked at him, not knowing what to say.
