Chapter 784: Can We Go Back to the Past?

Hearing this, Laura's face darkened. She forced herself to stay calm. "Vincent, I'm already slowly pulling out now. You need to give me time. How can anyone exit a business that quickly?"

The lines on Vincent's face were hard as if carved by a knife, completely expressionless.

"We've been married for over half a year, more than eight months. And you're telling me you still haven't gotten out of the business?"

Laura's ears instantly turned red, her face looking terrible. She stammered, unable to get the words out. "Vincent, you have to trust me. Since I promised you I'd get out, I definitely will. You have to believe me."

Vincent's eyes were like an unfathomably deep pool—no one could reach his inner world. He walked over to the sofa and slowly sat down, his long legs crossed. "I've heard your excuses too many times. I told you before we got married—if you don't clean up your business, I won't touch you. And you have no right to control whether I see other women during our marriage."

Hearing this, flames of shame burned in Laura's chest, making her feel embarrassed and humiliated.

But Laura still stubbornly explained, "Vincent, this kind of business isn't as simple as you think. I'm not in contact with those deals anymore. It's just difficult to exit completely without consequences, but I will definitely get out."

Vincent lifted his eyelids slightly, looking at her coldly. "I already had Ray investigate. Last month you were still involved in an overseas deal. Just because I didn't ask doesn't mean I don't know. I was hoping you'd admit it yourself one day, but now it seems you still don't plan to."

Instantly, Laura felt like something was tightly gripping her throat, making her uncomfortable and panicked. She felt flustered, her lips trembling involuntarily, unable to hide her inner turmoil.

"Vincent, you... are you misunderstanding something? I didn't participate. I was just helping out."

"You're still making excuses? Do I have to throw the evidence in your face before you'll stop?"

Faced with Vincent's words, Laura was completely panicking inside. She knew Vincent must have found concrete evidence, otherwise he wouldn't be so certain. Any explanation now would just be a cover-up.

With no other choice, Laura had to lower her stance. She got up and walked in front of Vincent, straddling his lap.

Although she came tonight to question him, Laura had deliberately worn a rather sexy nightgown, planning to stay here tonight no matter what.

Though her illness had made her body quite thin, she believed she was still very seductive in the sexy nightgown. She didn't believe Vincent could resist.

Vincent just glanced at her, then reached out and pulled her off him, got up and moved to a different spot.

This action stunned Laura. Her whole body suddenly tensed, her face turned ashen, but she didn't dare confront Vincent directly.

So she said, "Vincent, do you hate me that much?"

Vincent rubbed his forehead, his tone indifferent. "You should know I've already done more than enough for you. As for why you married me, you know very well. And we had an agreement before marriage, you just didn't keep it. If you had kept it, would we be in this situation now?"

Laura's face looked terrible, her heart trembling slightly. She clenched her fists and said pitifully, "Vincent, we've been together much longer than you and Kimberly. Why did your attitude toward me completely change after Kimberly appeared?"

Vincent's expression was indifferent. "What's between us has nothing to do with Kimberly. Don't bring up irrelevant people."

Suddenly, Laura stood up. "But today you and Kimberly were alone together! You stayed for a long time! And you lied to me! As your wife, don't I have the right to ask?"

"I already told you, you're my wife in name only. And I gave you my supplementary card to spend however you want. What, that's not enough?"

Laura's voice revealed tension. "Is it that hard to touch me? Or do you think I'm dirty? Do you despise me because those people hurt me before? Is that why you won't touch me?"

Hearing Laura bring up the past again, Vincent frowned. "Do you always think that because of what happened back then, I have to be responsible for you for life? Haven't I done enough for you all these years? What more do I have to do before you'll let it go? Now you have the marriage, you have money—what more do you want? People can't be too greedy."

These words stabbed Laura's heart like knives. She wanted to cry badly, but held it back. She knew that if she cried, Vincent would feel pressured and think she was playing pitiful.

So she held back her tears. "Vincent, do you have no feelings for me at all now? If Kimberly hadn't approached me to scheme with her to divorce you, you never would have married me, would you?"

She thought Vincent wouldn't answer this question, but unexpectedly he said, "Yes, of course."

Although she had expected the answer, when she heard Vincent say it himself, Laura still broke down. She finally couldn't hold back her tears.

When Vincent saw her tear-stained face, he felt nothing.

Because Laura had long ago exhausted all his feelings.

"Vincent, how can you be so cruel to say such things to me? Everything I've done all these years was because I loved you too much. I really loved you too much, that's why I acted this way."

Vincent's face showed no emotion, his expression remaining calm throughout.

He said flatly, "Don't cry. I don't want to see you cry right now. Laura, I used to owe you a lot, but now I don't owe you anymore."

Tears slid silently down her face. Laura had lost all her vitality.

At this moment, she really wanted to cry out loud and demand why Vincent was being so cruel to her, but at the same time she knew clearly—she had no right.

Her lips trembled slightly as she sobbed, "When will we ever get back to how we were before? You loved me, I loved you, and we could be happy forever."

Vincent's face showed no joy, anger, sorrow, or happiness, as if he were an emotionless puppet.

"I told you before we got married—as for whether we can get back to how things were, I can't promise you anything. It all depends on your performance. It would be best if you could return to how you were before."

Laura's eyes had lost all their light. Her tears poured out like a fountain, the pain in her heart unstoppable.

She knew that winning back Vincent's heart wouldn't be easy now—in fact, it would be extremely difficult.

Then Vincent said indifferently, "It's late. I need to rest. You should rest early too."
