Chapter 825 Arrest
Chapter 825 Arrest
The police gradually broke through the kidnappers' defenses. After a day and night of interrogation, one of the kidnappers finally couldn't hold out and confessed to their various crimes and identified their contact.
Preston was cautious and did not issue orders directly to these people but used a third party instead.
The police had the kidnappers send a fake message to the third party saying that the mission was completed and staged a photo of Paul being killed.
"Got the IP address!"
Two days later, this so-called third party was captured.
Finally, the third party revealed that Preston was the mastermind, and there were transactions between them as evidence.
By this time, Preston had already received the photo from the third party.
He thought the mission was completed and that Paul was dead.
"In a foreign land, with no one to even collect your body, Paul, this is your fate." Preston leisurely took a sip of coffee.
He was now in a hotel in City B, standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the dawn outside, a smile slowly forming on his lips.
The troublesome Paul was finally gone.
Preston recalled what he had heard from others and then came to Country Z.
Paul held 20% of Ashley's shares, and in addition, he had secretly purchased shares from another shareholder. He intended to gradually take over the Thomas Group.
He also remembered the grievances which Ondine had suffered over the years and the humiliation brought by his illegitimate status.
All of this pressured him to eliminate Paul completely.
Preston had breakfast at the hotel and went out to work as usual.
He booked a flight back to Country Y for the next day. With Paul dead, he needed to return and handle some matters.
However, when he arrived at the airport the next day, ready to board the plane, several police officers approached and surrounded him.
Preston felt nervous but maintained a smile and calmly asked, "Gentlemen, what is this about?"
"You are suspected of involvement in an international kidnapping case. Please come with us."
"I'm not. I didn't."
Seeing Preston unwilling to cooperate, the police took out handcuffs and forcibly cuffed him and took him away.
Preston's assistant hurriedly called Joseph.
The weather was clear on that day as Paul, with one arm in a sling, stepped off the plane.
Lucas asked him, "Are you going back to the Watson Mansion first, or to the Mitchell Villa to see Christina?"
Paul frowned, feeling like Lucas was asking him to choose between saving his wife or his mother if they both fell into the water at the same time.
At that moment, Lucas's recently turned-on phone received a call. Lucas answered and heard Christina's voice, then handed the phone to Paul.
Paul took it.
"Darling."
"Your mom is with me. We're all waiting for you at home. What do you want for lunch?"
"Fish soup, anything else is fine."
"Okay, be safe on the road."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Paul smiled with satisfaction.
"Nicholas, I have a home too." He turned and whispered to Nicholas.
Nicholas glanced at him and picked up his phone to call Caroline.
Preston was arrested with solid evidence and would be handed over to Terracentra for trial. Joseph rushed over from Country Y to learn about the situation.
Upon learning that Preston had hired someone to kidnap and kill Paul, he was in disbelief and wanted to see Preston but was refused. He finally had a lawyer convey a message to Preston. No matter what, he had to save Preston.
Preston was his most favored son, the child he had lovingly raised. Preston was different from Paul; Paul had long lost any familial affection for him.
However, with the Watson Family and the Mitchell Family pressing, and the evidence being conclusive, Joseph was powerless.
Unless he sought help from Ashley and Paul.
Paul didn't give Joseph the chance to harass him. The Thomas Group was in trouble, and Joseph had to return to Country Y temporarily.
Paul was leisurely recuperating at Christina's home.
Ashley wanted him to return to the Watson Mansion first. After returning to the country, she had been living with Gummidge.
Paul said that Christina was pregnant and he needed to stay with her.
Ashley had no choice but to visit Paul and Christina every day.
Ashley saw online that the Thomas Group was under investigation and asked Paul about it, "I sold the shares you transferred to me."
There were more than just Preston who wanted to become the chairman of the Thomas Group. Some shareholders were dissatisfied with Joseph.
They bought Paul's shares, and combined with their own, they could compete with Joseph for control.
The rumors Preston heard were deliberately leaked by Paul. In reality, Paul had already sold his shares.
"I sold them for a good amount, Mom. I'll buy you a big house, enough for you and Aunt to retire comfortably."
If Paul had wanted to sell the shares before, Ashley would have disagreed, as the annual dividends from the Thomas Group were substantial.
Given the current situation of the Thomas Group, she was instead glad that Paul sold quickly; otherwise, he might have been implicated.
"Tell me, was the Thomas Group's trouble your doing?" Ashley asked, suspicious.
Paul didn't hide it and directly admitted, "Yes, it was me. If the Thomas Group were clean, I wouldn't have done it."
His original plan was merely to drive Joseph and Preston out of the Thomas Group and change its ownership.
But Preston's attempt to eliminate him completely angered him, so he retaliated fiercely.
During his time working at the Thomas Group, he wasn't idle. He didn't read those reports in vain.
Paul had gathered enough secrets and evidence, making his actions more effective.
All of this was Joseph and Preston's own doing.
A complex look flashed in Ashley's eyes.
Paul had hidden his abilities so well that even she, as his mother, hadn't realized he was so capable.
"Mom, just tell me if you're happy."
Ashley beamed with joy, "Of course, I'm happy."
Her son avenged her, so she was naturally happy. She wished Joseph would die.
Unfortunately, for commercial crimes, Joseph wouldn't face the death penalty; at most, he'd be imprisoned for a few years.
But Preston, thinking of what Paul had gone through in Terracentra, made Ashley want to kill Preston herself.
After Preston was handed over to Terracentra, it wasn't long before the Country Y police also came to interrogate him. They had discovered part of the truth about the chain car accident and suspected Preston was responsible.
Preston, waiting in vain for Joseph's rescue, finally broke down and confessed everything.
The chain car accident was his doing to cause Paul's accident, not expecting that it would involve so many innocent people.
The Terracentra incident was also his hiring someone to kidnap Paul.
Joseph was arrested for tax evasion and illegal fundraising, among other commercial crimes.
After returning to the country, Paul found staying at home every day boring, so he started preparing for the wedding.
Taking advantage of Christina's belly not yet showing, he quickly had a wedding dress custom-made, rushed the production, and had all the wedding attire ready in half a month.
Then he booked the venue, sent out invitations, and efficiently handled all the arrangements.
Meanwhile, Christina went to work as usual every day, without having to do anything.
