Chapter 202 Her - Cole
Chapter 202 Her - Cole
"You did so well!" Dad claps me on the back. "You're gonna have them fighting over you!"
I call him that now.
Dad.
Sometimes it feels weird, but most times it feels right.
He's been a constant over the last year while I was in the clinic, a year that took everything from me, facing demons I didn't even know I was fighting in the first place. I was stripped bare, and I had to find ways to weave myself back together.
They said I used Monet as a lifeline, and that I had to learn how to stand alone without her.
I disagree.
I did it for her in the first place, because she didn't deserve that version of me.
There are some things in the world that you can't control. Like other people's actions. I had no control over my birth mother's decision. It's not my fault she hooked up with my biological father and then tried to pass me off as another man's child. Maybe she honestly didn't know since my dad said they used condoms. And it was definitely not my fault that murderer killed her. I now realize my six-year-old self was trying to protect my mother, and what I did doesn't make me a bad person.
All I now know for sure is, I was meant to be here, because I was meant to find the one person who makes everything worthwhile.
"I have you set up with a meeting with a good friend of mine, Josh. I promise you son, he's the best in the business, and he will always rally for you." Dad tells me when we walk through the foyer of the hotel we're staying at. "Now I know you said you weren't ready for agents yet, but you're at the combine, you need an agent as soon as possible, and like I said, he....."
"You motherfucker!"
Both of us stop dead in our tracks when a little firecracker stomps towards us, Amy hot on her heels. A smile breaks out on my face when she barrels into me in all her beauty and kicks me hard in the shin.
I don't even feel the pain. No, all I see is her looking as perfect as I've imagined every single day.
She looks likes her, long hair flowing down her back, dressed in tight jeans and sneakers, and a tight white tee that has my imagination all over the place. She doesn't have a stitch of makeup on, but she really doesn't need it, her golden eyes eyes flashing in anger as she looks up at me.
"What do you have to say for yourself!" She points her finger up in my face, looking cute as all hell. "You left me for a whole fucking year and then I see you parading on TV. Not a call, not a text, nothing! What the hell are you smiling at?"
This will probably end up on social media, but I pick her up without another word, and throw her over my shoulder, curses flying out of her beautiful mouth that could be used for much better purposes, her fists hitting me as I walk her to the elevator, people stopping to stare at the fiasco.
"You better put me down, Cole Smith, or I swear to God, I will kill you, and I will bury you where no one will find you!"
I chuckle as I press the button of the elevator to go up to my room, the people scurrying out when the doors open and they look at the two of us.
"Thank you." I tell them when I step inside the now empty elevator and put the love of my life back on her feet who continues to pummel me with her fists, even though her hair is all over the place.
I don't stop her. I probably deserve every hit she gives me, and if it's going to make her feel better, then I'll just take it.
But I haven't seen her in real life in a long time, and I missed her so much that my heart physicall ached, so I take her slim throat in my hand, and she quiets down, her golden eyes spitting fire.
God how did she get even more beautiful since the last time that I saw her? Those pictures of her Amy printed out for me definitely didn't do her justice.
My eyes drop to her full lips, and I wonder if she still tastes the same.
I can't help myself, I have to bend down and run my lips over hers, the touch sending electricity running through us both, and she sighs against my mouth even though she was trying to kill me just minutes before.
"You're here." I whisper against her lips.
"Fuck you." She whispers back, making me smile. "You left me."
"I know."
It's not something that I wanted to do, it wasn't an ideal situation, but she'll learn how I've changed, and I know she will think it's for the better.
"You're back." A sob escapes from her chest, and I slant my lips over hers, trying to kiss away the sadness that I caused.
I vow it will be the last time that she cries because of me.
And I'll make it up to her for the rest of my life.
