Chapter 34 Lies and betrayal!

“I’ll leave,” Theo replied with a straight face. 
It felt like a dream and I could only smile because I just couldn’t believe it. There’s no way Theo would agree to leave just like that after confessing his undying love to me. I mean, this man promised me he would do everything to make sure we get to be together, and now he’s just going against all that. 
There’s just no way that’s true, right? 
But then, I hadn’t dropped the thought when I looked at him again and saw the straight look on his face. He even looked at me and there was no bit of joke in his eyes. He meant every word. 
That was when it finally dawned on me that I had just been played. He lied to me… no, he actually didn’t lie to me. I deceived myself because he made it clear right from the start that he wasn’t interested in being entangled in a forbidden love like ours. I was the one who wouldn’t let him go and kept going after him.
“That’s good then, you should leave very soon then. Any delay increases risk of this getting to the public and that would be dangerous for the family.” Henry chimed in and tears welled up in my eyes but I fought them back really hard. There’s no point crying here, these people clearly do not care about me at all, and crying would only make me seem like more like a fool.
“I did say I’ll leave but not alone. I’m leaving with Grace. I love him and she loves me too so there’s no way I’m going anywhere without her. I leave, she comes with me!” Theo suddenly burst out. 
I thought it was my mind playing tricks on my for a split second until I saw the look on Matt’s face. 
He looked so furious and was all swollen up from anger. I was even scared for him because he looked like he was going to burst anytime soon. 
“Are you just going to sit there and okay dumb? What the heck does he mean you love him as well and leaving with you? Can’t you see this is the time to let him know he’s just being stupid and there’s nothing like that?” He slammed at me but I didn’t flinch. 
I would have been scared a minute ago but not anymore. Theo had just claimed me and I’m definitely not missing that chance. And besides, what was he thinking, asking me to confess my undying love for him when he knows there’s nothing like that. 
“Everything Theo said is the truth. We are in love with each other and I’m leaving with him.” I slowly chimed in and I saw as anger consumed Matt. 
“You dumb idiot! How could you look me in the eyes and saw such nonsense. You must think you’re that important but it’s all a lie. You’re nothing! And you should be grateful to me for saying your stupid ass and that of your bankrupt family!” He yelled in my face and I was shocked out of my mind. 
I looked at the others one after the other and saw they weren’t surprised. That definitely means they knew something I didn’t know. 
“What do you mean by that? My family is bankrupt? My dad would have told me if there was anything like that.” I let out while he scoffed.
“Well I guess your dad didn’t know you’d stupidly try to ruin things for him. He would have warned you to keep your cheating self in check. Your dad embezzled shareholders money and would be jailed if this marriage doesn’t happen.” He blurted out and my whole body started messing up. 
I didn’t want to believe a word from him. I just couldn’t believe him. I mean, there’s no way my parents kept such from me, especially my mom, she would have said something. 
“And not just that!” Matt jumped back in just when I thought it couldn’t get worse.
“I know you’re desperate to cheat on me and you’d throw yourself at any man, deluding yourself that it’s love. But you should know that Theo here doesn’t love you at all. He’s only using you to get back at our dad for making me the heir. He’s pissed and can’t take it which is why he’s using you.”
“His plan is to ruin the family’s name in a dirty scandal with you right there in the center. He knows that would leave the family bankrupt after which he’s then abandon you and go back into the hiding he came from.” He let out and I just knew it was all a lie. He was just pained that I’m choosing his brother over him. 
There’s no way Theo had such evil plans for me. He would never do that. He’s not that kind of man. 
That was what I thought and convinced myself to believe until after along second and I still haven’t heard a word from Theo. I expected him to have jumped right in and defended himself. I expected him to deny everything and prove Matt to be the lying cheat that he is, but it was all silence from him. 
I turned to look at him then but I was shocked when I saw his face. 
Hw looked guilty as charged and I just knew Matt wasn’t lying. 
Theo never loved me. He was only using me and even right now, he was still using me…
