Chapter 98 098
Damien's POV
Lucas came to announce to me that Amelia's father came to see me the next day. To be honest, I wasn't surprised at all. I decided to see him secretly. I made sure that she didn't find out about it. She's not in a state to argue with her parents over issues like this.
I knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Since the news was going around everywhere, her parents were going to find out and be mad at us for announcing this to the world. But how long would we be able to hide it from the entire world?
“Alpha Damien, this wasn't the agreement we had when we decided to leave our daughter here with you,” Gamma Ronald said.
I nodded in agreement. “I know, but things have changed. It's a decision that would affect us; however, it's also to save the lives of so many people and ourselves.”
He looked completely pissed off by what I said. However, he knows he can't do anything about it. I'm being as kind as I can because of her, tolerating everything that I didn't used to, and putting away my pride just to show that I'm really concerned about her.
“I know you think it's dangerous for us, but like I said, it's to save a lot of lives. My people have lost their lives so many times in the past few days because of this. This decision was made by Amelia, and I had to accept it,” I added for him.
He looked at me like he didn't believe what I said. Why would he think that I'm lying about the decision being made by her? Oh, I almost forgot who I was. It's normal for him to think that I forced her into making this kind of decision.
“I know Amelia is impulsive and hard to talk to, but I don't think she would make this kind of decision without being pressured to. She doesn't have to stay here. If your people are forcing her to leave, we can still take back the announcement,” he stated.
“But I don't want to, Dad,” Amelia said, rushing in.
I thought I asked Lucas to make sure that she didn't find out her father was here. How did she manage to get here so fast, and we've barely even had a long conversation?
“Amelia, what are you doing here? The doctor said you should be resting a lot, and I thought you were going to do that,” I asked her. “You don't have to join this conversation. This is between your father and I.”
She scoffed, “Is it up to you to tell me if I have to join this conversation about me or not? I am the one who made you reveal yourself to the world. Why is he blaming you for it?”
Her father looked at her with a shocked expression. I mean, this is not the first time hearing Amelia be outspoken to everyone, but I guess she's been so bold standing on what she said right now that her father couldn't disagree with her.
“Do you have any idea what you've done? Do you think this is something you should be proud of? You just put yourself and everyone else in danger. Don't you understand what this is?” he fired at her.
I got in front of her and pulled her behind me. “Gamma Ronald, I know how you feel about this, but she has made her choice, and I hope you would respect it. Anyone that doesn't respect what she wants would have to face me, no matter who they are.”
He stood up, still looking angry. “I need a moment alone with my daughter, or am I not allowed to be with her?”
I wanted to say something, but she wouldn't let me, so I just decided to leave. I can get what they are talking about from a distance anyway, so I listened to the conversation even though I shouldn't.
“Dad, you shouldn't be doing this. I told you it was my fault,” she said to him. “I promise you he had nothing to do with this.”
“Even if he had nothing to do with this, it's still his fault that you got exposed anyway. I told you before to stay away from him. If you never got together with him, you would never have been exposed, and even he would also have been able to keep his secret forever. Do you understand the gravity of the situation you put everyone in?”
I felt so angry. Why is she being blamed for what clearly wasn't her fault? This is what I hated — the fact that everyone keeps looking for someone to blame for their problems is annoying. War is bound to happen at any time in this world, and it shouldn't be linked to just one person.
“You can't say this to me, Dad. Lycans are very powerful and feared amongst all werewolves. Why should we hide like cowards all our lives because someone managed to plot against us and killed all of our kind?” she fired at him.
I kept my secret hidden for a long time, not out of fear, but because I still couldn't get any lead on the investigation I've been doing all my life just to find the people who killed my family. And the rest of us aren't hiding because I'm scared of anyone, and I don't want her to live that kind of life anymore.
“Ever since you got tangled up with Damien, you refuse to listen to me!” her father shouted at her, and that was what made me rush back in there.
“It's not that she doesn't want to listen to you. It's you who's not giving her a chance to make a decision at all. Why don't you just listen to her once and let her tell you what she wants?” I said the moment I arrived.
He looked at me with anger, the same kind of anger that he used to have before, but he knows he can't do anything about it.
“I told you I wanted to have a conversation with my daughter, and you just barged in here,” he snapped at me.
I shook my head. “I think I forgot to tell you this place belongs to me, since it's not obvious enough, and I can go wherever I want. If you're going to come here and scold her about what she did, if you are going to continue rubbing it on her face, then you are not welcome here.”
I was trying so hard to control my anger, and she held my hand. I thought she was going to scold me again for saying that to her father, but she seems to support me this time around. Is this what it feels like to be supported unconditionally by the one you love?
“Since you won't listen to me, then I'm going to leave you to your problems. If you don't want to see me as your father anymore, don't contact me again,” he said and left angrily.
“Dad!” She wanted to go after him, but I stopped her.
“Let him be. I will find a time to go to him and talk to him about this. You don't have to worry. You'll be fine, okay? Don't let this agitate you and affect the baby,” I told her.
She just nodded and went back to her room without saying anything else. I feel like she's been affected by this, but she's trying to be strong for me and the baby. I need to fix this somehow.
First of all, I need to catch one of those hunters and make an example out of them. Once I do this, they would know how to take a step back and not bother us again. I will not end up like my parents.
