Chapter 91 091
Caleb's POV
After going to see my sister today and how she was doing, my finally realized that what we fed was going to happen in the future could not be avoided. Everything was already determined for them to be together. We did try to avoid it so many times because we didn’t want the tragedy of the past to happen. My parents did everything they could, but it just ended up this way.
I went home to inform my parents about what I already did since they were hiding things from her, and I revealed everything. They still needed to tell her about what happened, which is also what I intend to know because I only know about the tragedy that befell those people but nothing else.
“Caleb, you're here. Did you see Amelia? How is she doing?” Mom asked the moment I arrived. I knew she was going to be this anxious since she has grown to see Amelia as her daughter all these years.
“Mom, you won't even let me have a seat before you asked me about her?” I questioned her.
She looked at me in annoyance. “You better tell me how she's doing right now or I'm going to go there myself.”
I stopped her from leaving. “Fine, I'll tell you. She's doing very fine. If she wasn't fine, do you think I would leave there without her?”
She heaved a sigh of relief. “That's actually good to know. I was quite worried about her. Is there anything else you want to tell me?”
“Where is Dad? I think I need to tell you this together because I discovered some things that I never thought would be possible,” I told her.
Just then, Dad walked in. He looked like he already went to train himself before coming back. I really want him to retire from being the Beta of the Alpha, but Dad is just like being a loyal person even to someone that doesn't care about his feelings. Yes, the Alpha is my father-in-law, but I know his character more than anyone else. He is very cunning and unbelievable sometimes.
“You're here, Caleb. What are you talking about with your mom?” he asked me as he took a seat beside her.
“I went to see Amelia today and I already told her everything about herself. I mean up to the person that I know. The rest is left to you both to answer to her,” I told them to their shock.
They both looked like they were not ready to tell her anyway, and the promise they made to her about telling her the last time was probably fake. She’s no longer a child who needs them to protect her all the time. She’s even having her own child now and getting married. Shouldn’t she at least know of her own origins?
“I know your mother’s angry for telling her the truth, but I couldn't help it,” I added since no one was saying anything. “She deserves to know everything that we've been hiding from her.”
Dad took a deep breath. “You're right. She should know about her origins, and we've hidden it from her for too long.”
I nodded in agreement. “Exactly. I told her everything I know. But do you know what’s more shocking? I discovered that Damien was also a lycan, and I had to pretend I wasn't shocked to find out randomly.”
I expected them to be shocked at this situation, but they seemed not to be, as if they already knew something like this was going to happen. Don’t tell me they knew that Damien was a lycan all along and that was the reason they were trying to stop him from being with Amelia because they wanted to stop the tragedy of the past.
“You both don't seem surprised,” I stated. “You already knew about this?”
“Your mom and I used to work in the Royal Court alongside his parents. Of course it's been years, but it's impossible for me not to know the face of my old friend. He looks just like his father but has his mother's eyes,” Dad answered me.
This was so confusing for me to understand. They had to hide something like this for so long, and now I understand how Amelia felt knowing that we were all hiding things from her and we were not even happy when she got her wolf.
“You even knew his background, and you never thought of reaching out to him?” I fired at Dad. “Without knowing it was your old friend's son, you shouldn't have let him grow up like that.”
Mom shook her head. “We did think of reaching out to him because we never knew he was alive until a few years ago when we found out he was the Alpha of the Flaming Moon Pack.”
“He was already an adult when we met him, and he didn't remember any of us at all. Trying to reminisce with him wouldn't help at any time because he already hated everyone in that situation. The best thing was for Amelia to stay away from him,” Dad added.
I shook my head. “The best thing wasn't for them to stay away from each other. Do you know how hard he had it growing up? I just found out some things today and I thought they were twisted, letting him grow up like that.”
I was so mad at my parents because they decided to take Amelia and not Damien. Since they were so close to his family, they should have helped him out too. Even though I know their hands are tied most of the time, I still felt something could have been done to prevent him growing up to be a psychopath.
“What is Amelia's true identity? Is she a daughter of one of your friends too?”
Mom and Dad looked at each other like they didn't want to tell me, but I felt like it wasn't that simple. She probably wasn't someone ordinary since they decided to adopt her.
“Why aren't you saying anything?” I asked them. “Is she the daughter of the royal family or something?”
Mom nodded. “Yes, you're right. She's the daughter of the dead lycan King and Queen. She's the rightful princess and the leader of all werewolves. She's the only remnant of the royal family.”
“We rescued her by the last orders of her parents, and we had to take her with us to live by finding someone to hide her identity for years. But at the end of the day, she found out anyway.”
Everything started to make sense to me. I understood why they were protecting her with all their might—because they didn't want people to know that she was still alive since they never caught the people who wiped out the entire clan.
“Was keeping her away from Damien also part of protecting her? But they are fated mates,” I said.
Dad sighed again. “We know that already, which is why we wanted to stop all of this from happening. There was already a prophecy years ago about the most powerful child that will be born, called the Lycan Heir, who will be the key to continuing the line of the lycan clan.
“But according to the prophecy, it had to come from the royal princess and her fated mate. Coincidentally, they had a method of finding out they are mates even before they grow up at that time, and Damien was given an engagement with Amelia because they were fated to be together.”
I finally understood the entire situation. Damien was fated to be together with her, and she was already being targeted by so many people. What if this prophecy was the only reason that they got killed in the first place?
A lot of people feared the power of lycans, and having one that would be the most powerful one in the century was something that they all didn't want to happen. So whoever planned all of this had all of this in mind. I didn’t even need to know what happened before for me to grasp the situation.
If this is true, then it means that Amelia is still in so much danger. She needs to be protected all the time because Damien might not be powerful enough to stop them since they are so determined and they were able to wipe out those powerful lycans in the past.
“Caleb, I know you love your sister so much and you want to protect her, but everything we also did in the past was for her sake,” Mom said to me.
I nodded. “I understand you, Mom. Since you already told me about this, find some time to tell Amelia about the rest of the story so she can get proper closure in the situation.”
I stood up, ready to leave. I still had some errands to run before going back home and I also needed to explain to the Alpha about what happened to Brian.
“What exactly happened to Brian, and how did he provoke Alpha Damien?”
“He's trying to steal Amelia away from Damien, and you already know how Alpha Damien is. Something like that wouldn't happen. I don't know where he got the audacity from,” I replied.
Dad looked very annoyed. “I already knew about the things he did to my daughter years ago, and now he's trying to humiliate her again? I won't let this happen. Don't worry, I'm going to talk to the Alpha myself and help him stay away from her.”
“Okay, Dad. I trust you. I'll be taking my leave now,” I said, and I went to hug Mom before going out.
I need to begin some things because I have to help my sister stay safe for now. I'm not going to tell anyone about my plans, but I will find out whoever is behind the scenes trying to harm her.
